Chapter 1289:

? ? ? ? ?

Once Austin's dedicated nanny recovered and returned, Vicki would be relieved of the burden.

Vicki's happiness radiated as she softly assured, "Jarrod, rest assured that I will take care of Austin as if he were my own."

With a nod, Jarrod left.

Vicki smiled softly. However, it quickly disappeared.

Looking at Austin, Vicki sternly admonished him, “See? I warned you not to talk to your father like that, but you refused to listen. “Your father won’t let you visit your mother.”

Austin was still visibly scared, his voice tense. "So when will I be able to see my mother and Roscoe?"

Vicki's spirits lifted. This kid could be useful. As long as Austin kept mentioning Nicole and Roscoe in Jarrod's presence, he was likely to grow more disdainful of Austin and Nicole. And that only made the situation worse.

Vicki returned to her gentle ways, smiling as she continued, “If you wish to see them, only I can facilitate that for you, but you must promise me that you will obey me.”

Austin acknowledged dazedly.

Meanwhile, in the hospital room, Nicole woke up from her dream, her mind swirling with too many thoughts, making sleep unattainable.

She lay there with her eyes wide open until the afternoon, when an unexpected visitor suddenly appeared in her living room.

Vicki entered Nicole's living room uninvited and settled down next to Nicole's bed with a carefree smile. “Hey Nicole, here again? How’s everything going?”

Nicole looked at Vicki suspiciously, her voice flat. “I'm fine. But what do you bring here, Miss Hampton?”

“I stopped by to see her,” Vicki said, her smile a little shaky.

Nicole sighed, her patience running out. “We're not friends. “If you have something to say, get to the point.”

Vicki's tone changed, with a note of sincerity. "Why are you always so cold to me? What have I really done to you?"

Nicole almost laughed at Vicki's performance. She remembered everything from their last encounter outside the courtroom, especially Vicki's manipulative threat to her son Austin. It was a line she could never forgive.

Nicole's instincts as a mother were fierce. If anyone threatened her son, she would fight tooth and nail to protect him.

"Vicki, you know exactly what this is about," Nicole stated bluntly.

“Honestly, Nicole, I don't know. Help me understand,” Vicki replied, keeping up her charade.

Tired and eager to end the conversation, Nicole closed her eyes.

“Vicki, you've already said hello to me. If there's nothing else, I think it's best if you go now. “We’re done here.”

Vicki's expression darkened briefly before she looked back at Nicole.

Despite the paleness of her illness, Nicole's presence was still striking, and her vulnerability only added layers to her already irresistible appeal.
