Chapter 1223:

? ? ? ? ?

“I did,” Nicole replied, although that wasn't entirely true. She had been eating because Jarrod insisted, and she forced herself to eat in order to stay strong and find a way out.

"Don't worry about Austin and Dora. We'll figure it out together."

Roscoe reassured her.

Nicole was shocked, she didn't expect Roscoe to already be aware of the problems involving Austin and Dora.

Roscoe had his own sources within the Watts family. His father's assistant owed him in favor.

At the time, the assistant's son had a rare and expensive disease, and he could not afford to show his distress as he depended on his salary for medical bills. Roscoe offered to help when he heard the assistant on the phone. Roscoe even suggested a traditional doctor for his son's illness.

Once the deputy's are recovered, his perception of Roscoe improved markedly.

Among the young men in the Watts family, Roscoe was considered capable and serious, despite being an illegitimate child. The assistant treated Roscoe with respect, knowing that Roscoe could lead the Watts family one day.

The assistant assumed that he would suffer no loss if he had helped Roscoe and Roscoe failed.

So when Roscoe came back this time, a lot of the information that Roscoe gathered came from the assistant.

Roscoe assured Nicole, looking in her eyes to clear her confusion, “Don't worry. I have my own allies within the Watts family. They wouldn’t dare do anything to harm me.”

Nicole noticed that Roscoe's movements were somewhat clumsy, and that his wrist was marked by a deep scar, a persistent reminder of the harsh punishment imposed by Roscoe's father.

Roscoe seemed to care less about his legs, but his hands were crucial. They were meant to heal and save lives.

Nicole's heart ached as she watched him struggle to lift heavy objects.

Her voice trembled as she asked, “Roscoe, are you planning on getting treatment?”

“Not yet,” Roscoe replied nonchalantly, showing little concern for his wound. He even pulled down his sleeve to cover the scar, which Nicole couldn't see.

Nicole's heart ached and she asked hesitantly, "Wasn't this your last chance?" Jarrod had mentioned that Roscoe's losing this chance might mean there was no hope for recovery, even beyond divine help.

Jarrod scoffed, curious to see how Roscoe would decide this time. He wondered if Roscoe would stay and fight a losing battle, or accept a more ordinary Life.

Realizing he couldn't keep it from Nicole, Roscoe gently touched her head, reassuring her, "It's okay. It's not as bad as you think. I can still hold you."

Roscoe hugged Nicole tightly, his voice soft. “Nicole, it means a lot that you care about me.”

Surrounded by his arms, Nicole felt his comforting warmth. To her, Roscoe was like a little sun that radiated warmth without ceasing. But she felt like a burden to him.

Roscoe was such a skilled doctor that he might have had a bright future even without the influence of the Watts family. Even if the Lawrence family had not initially supported Roscoe, the Watts family would have eventually recognized him, securing his status as a young master with an inheritance far beyond the ordinary reach. No matter what life he had been left to live, it would not have been too difficult.

However, she had chosen the most difficult path. She decided to stay by his side, enduring numerous hardships.

Whenever Nicole faltered, Roscoe sensed it immediately and reassured her: “Nicole, you can't leave me. “I’ll always be your puppy.”

The term "puppy dog" came about while watching a television show in which young, loyal boyfriends were compared to loyal dogs.
