Chapter 1207:
? ? ? ? ?
Beneath Jarrod's calm outside, a storm was brewing within. He waited until he had enough influence before making his demands.
It was clear that old Dora, whose vitality was weakening, was not enough to keep Nicole by her side.
Besides, Dora's health was more dangerous than Nicole's, and she might not last more than a few years. She needed to secure something more lasting, something more firmly under her control.
Nicole knew that if they got involved again, the outcome would probably not be good. She had some regrets. She should have married Roscoe sooner. Roscoe had done a lot for her, and the least she could do was spare him any more regrets.
Just then, Jarrod's phone range. After picking up the call, his face turned serious.
He went back to the living room and said to Nicole, “Get a good rest. “I’ll come see you later.”
Nicole remained silent, as if she hadn't heard him.
Jarrod, not at all reassured, left her in the care of two nurses and warned her: "Nicole, don't try to run away. You know you can't escape. You'd better be obedient. We'll settle accounts little by little."
He left a suffocating message before leaving: “I will make you agree willingly.”
Nicole stared blankly at the ceiling.
When it was time for her to eat, the nurse came to feed her, and she obediently took her food. She knew that she could not allow herself to weaken further. Before she saw Roscoe again, she decided to conserve her strength.
Jarrod handpicked the nurse, a woman in her forties, who bore a resemblance to Dora in her features.
That's why Nicole had always treated the nurse with courtesy, seeing her as a mother figure.
"Miss Lawrence, you've eaten well today. Mr. Schultz will be glad to hear it," the nurse said cheerfully as she tidied up the bowl.
“Do you really have to tell him about my meals?” Nicole asked quietly.
"Yes, he insists that we inform him of everything, no matter how unimportant it may be."
Nicole giggled. “Do you also need to know how many times I use the bathroom each day?”
“Well… Mr. Schultz is very worried about you.” The nurse noticed Nicole's bad mood and assumed she was upset. After all, no one liked feeling confined.
“Miss Lawrence, it’s clear that Mr. Schultz really cares about you.” The nurse, eager to please, praised Jarrod. “When you were unconscious, Mr. Schultz was by your side, never leaving your side.”
Nicole replied with a pathetic smile: “If I died, he would be left without a toy.”
This comment made the nurse's heart sink. Nicole was stunning, her beauty undiminished even in her illness. It was heartbreaking to hear her so defeated.
The nurse, who had only one son and no daughter, felt a maternal affection for Nicole and tried to comfort her. “Miss Lawrence, living together means making concessions. It's not just about your faults. Try to see your good side.”
Nicole replied suspiciously, “His good side?”
The nurse agreed. “Yes, you should have seen how worried I was when you didn't wake up. A man who didn't really care about you wouldn't have been so worried. Some men seem tough on the outside, but deep down they're soft. If you focused more on the positive, life might be sweeter, and who knows, even your health might start to improve.”
“But he doesn't have any good side…” Nicole whispered, her voice tinged with sadness. “I can't find anything good in him. “I wish he was dead.”
The nurse hesitated to continue the conversation, taken back by the sentiment. How did this seemingly perfect couple come to wish each other dead?
