Chapter 1206:

Jarrod hesitated before deflecting. “You must have misheard.” This was not the time to broach the subject of his mother, as more pressing matters demanded attention.
Nicole accepted her evasion with a passive gaze fixed on the ceiling.
Without expectations, mistakes were easy to accept.
"I want to see Roscoe. I'm worried about him," Nicole insisted.
“He’s fine,” Jarrod replied dryly, his irritation palpable. “The doctors have treated him and Roscoe’s family is with him now.”
Nicole's agitation was evident and her fingers curled. “The Watts family has been informed!”
"The Watts will no longer be a threat to him. On the contrary, they are determined to protect him," Jarrod explained.
Nicole looked puzzled. “How is that?”
Pouring himself a glass of water, Jarrod handed it over and explained, “A direct heir to the Watts family recently passed away in a car accident, along with his five-year-old son. Now that Roscoe is the sole heir, they are anxious to safeguard him.”
Nicole was still unconvinced. Could Roscoe's father, known for his cruelty, really care about Roscoe? In this ruthless environment, Roscoe's value would diminish if another heir emerged.
Seeming to sense his skepticism, Jarrod continued, “The Wattses appreciate it now. They've spared no expense and hired top-notch doctors for their rehabilitation. Have you heard of Project Xstar? It's a ten-billion-dollar initiative for bone regeneration, and the Watts have invested in it for Roscoe. If Roscoe agrees, he could have surgery there. In six months, his hands and feet will be as good as new. He's a doctor, right? After treatment, he could operate again, even run a marathon if he wants to.”
Jarrod's point was clear. Roscoe had the option of treatment, but it came with a sacrifice.
Nicole understood Jarrod's implication. She wanted him to convince Roscoe to leave her and seek treatment abroad. "I will not interfere in Roscoe's decisions. Whether he chooses treatment or not, I will respect his decision," she said calmly.
“You want him to live with a disability because of you?” Jarrod's tone held a latent anger. “You may not know it, but his leg is already deformed. “He pretends to be normal in your presence, enduring the pain.”
Jarrod's smile was cruel. "Nicole, are you really willing to crush his aspirations, to confine him to the need of a crutch for your sake?"
Suddenly, Nicole remembered asking Roscoe one snowy day if he had any regrets. After all, he could no longer pursue medicine, pick up a scalpel and save lives.
At that moment, Roscoe had looked at Nicole with warm eyes, smiling as he said, “Curing the sick and saving lives was never really my dream. I don't have such grand ambitions. I initially went into medicine just to be near you. It was the only way to reach you. “I believed I had to become a great doctor, to be by your side, to take care of your loved ones and your children, and most importantly, you.”
Thinking about this, Nicole briefly replied to Jarrod: “Not everyone is like you. Some people's dreams are small and simple. “They just want to spend their whole life with someone special, safe and healthy through the changing seasons.”
“Oh, really?” Jarrod replied with a cold sneer. “Isn’t the future I imagined worth it, too?”
"You're better off alone for life because you're cold-hearted, emotionless, and selfish."
Jarrod didn't seem to be affected by Nicole's harsh words. He had always been that kind of person, naturally detached from emotional entanglements since birth. And Nicole was like a kite that had slipped from his grasp. Someone like him wouldn't let anything he had set out to do stray from his intended path.
A lifetime with one person, safe and sound through the seasons.
Such a dream was laughable to him.
They were both lost in their own thoughts within the confines of the hospital room.
