Love Comes To Me -
Chapter 1351: Taking the long view.
"Go home?" Sweety's little face frowned, "Aren't we going to the Y?"
"The flight is grounded and we have to buy tickets for another time." Marcos made up a random excuse.
Sweety didn't have the slightest doubt and made a disappointed face, "Fine."
"We'll make it to Y, we just changed the date." assured Paulina.
Sweety nodded, indicating that she knew.
After Marcos thanked the mall staff, the family left the mall and went straight home.
Upon arriving home, Marcos sent the two little ones upstairs to play.
"Go sit in the living room and wait for me." When the two children were upstairs, Marcos turned to Paulina and said.
Paulina obeyed and went to sit in the living room to see him arrive with the first aid kit.
She took his hand and examined the grazes on his palm and arm, and when she saw the blood that had dried, her brow furrowed and her eyes filled with pain. "Are you in a lot of pain?" Marcos looked at her.
She shook her head softly, "It doesn't hurt anymore."
It had hurt the first time he scratched her, but now, she didn't feel it anymore.
"That's strong."
Mark said softly, opening the medicine cabinet and taking out the hydrogen peroxide and medical cotton.
"It might hurt a little, be patient." Marcos looked at her.
Paulina lost her smile helplessly, "I'm not that fragile."
Despite her own words, in Marcos' mind, she deserved to be protected from the slightest harm.
"Quiet!"
She had just said she wasn't that fragile, but the punch in the face came so fast.
The peroxide soaked cotton ball touched the wound and it really hurt.
"I'll be gentle." Marcos said out loud.
"It doesn't hurt." Paulina sketched a smile, but the next moment pain creased her forehead.
Marcos looked at her and felt pain in his heart. After rubbing in the medicine, he said, "Rest at home for the next few days, and put the trip to Y on hold for now." "Sweety..."
Paulina was worried that Sweety would be upset.
"I'll work it out." Marcos said.
Paulina nodded, "Okay."
Picking up the first aid kit, Marcos pondered for a moment before asking, "Did you meet that guy today?"
"No."
At the mention of his near capture today, Paulina ordered her thoughts and spoke uncertainly, "I think maybe he was one of Earlene's."
At the mention of Earlene's name, Mark's eyes grew cold.
The woman was just as he thought she would be.
"If it really is Earlene's people, it's not safe for us to live here." Marcos said.
"Then what?"
Paulina looked at him incredulously.
She picked up her first aid kit and said without skipping a beat, "I'll fix it. Let's go upstairs and rest for a while."
Paulina nodded, "Okay."
She was so scared today that she fell asleep as soon as she got into bed.
Marcos tucked her in and waited for her to fall asleep before leaving the room.
He went to the study, pulled out his cell phone and called Alvaro.
On the other end of the line, Alvaro's mocking voice soon rang, "Brother, why do you have time to call me when you're supposed to be having a sweet time with your sister-in-law?" "Alvaro, the place where we live is not safe and we have to move house."
At these words, Alvaro immediately sat up and became serious: "What, did something happen?".
Marcos briefly told him what had happened today.
"And is something wrong with your sister-in-law?".
"Injured, but it's no big deal." Marcos' face went cold at the mention.
"Any idea who the other guy is?"
"It's probably Earlene."
"It's her again!" Alvaro became exasperated, "Why is she so bewitched, does she think we, The Leoz family, are easily intimidated?"
"It's not just a matter of changing locations, if you can, you can arrange for more people to come and protect us, I'm not sure about Paulina and the two children."
"Fine. Brother, I'll arrange it right now."
"Thank you."
It was rare to hear a "thank you" from his older brother, Alvaro couldn't help but smile. "Brother, the truth is you're doing quite well now, at least you're becoming a more human being." Marcos' voice sank, "You're saying I wasn't a human being before?"
"No... certainly doesn't mean that." Alvaro hastened to explain, "I just think you're becoming more human now than before."
"Cut the crap and make sure you do as I say."
As soon as he said that, Alvaro immediately recanted the thought he had just had.
Even with his memory loss, he was still the same Marcos as before.
The attitude was always unquestionable.
"Don't worry, I will."
Marcos hung up the phone, his eyes slowly narrowing with an icy, dangerous tinge.
If Earlene ever hurt Paulina again, she wouldn't spare even the Bartram family.
Meanwhile, Earlene paced nervously, glancing back and forth down the hall.
Soon she would see Mark again and he would be by her side again.
When Winston returned to the villa, Earlene was immediately greeted with joy.
Winston knew in his heart that the smile on her face was not for her, but for Marcos.
"Where is everyone?" Earlene craned her neck and looked behind him and didn't see the person she wanted to see.
"I didn't get anyone."
She had planned to use Paulina to coerce Marcos and bring the two of them together.
Who would have thought the plan wouldn't work.
Marcos, much harder to deal with than he had thought.
"Not only did you not get the man, but you didn't even bring Marcos?" asked Earlene in a cold tone as her eyes narrowed slightly.
Seeing her face immediately sink, Winston felt more than annoyed, though he had guessed as much.
Winston walked past her as she headed for the living room. "You didn't tell me that Marcos was so good that several of us were no match for him."
"Now you're blaming me?" Earlene turned to him with a disgruntled look.
"As they say, if you know your enemy, you can win a hundred battles." said Winston.
Earlene growled, "I think the incompetent one is you!".
She walked over and sat down across from him, disgust written all over her face, "I can't believe there are so many of you and you can't do anything against him." "There's nothing you can do." Winston sank his body back into the couch, his hands open in helplessness.
He knew Marcos was a fearsome figure in the mall, but he didn't think he was that good in private.
Now this was carelessness on his part.
"I don't care. You promised me you'd help me." Earlene had to have his help now to have any chance of getting Marcos on her side.
"Help, I'll help. But this has to be done in the long run, not the hard way." Winston said cautiously.
"So what do you want to do?" Earlene asked, cruelty flashing in her eyes, "Whatever you do, you have to keep Marcos and that bitch Paulina apart anyway!"
Winston ducked his head and was silent for a moment before looking at her, "Why do you like Marcos, for the power of The Leoz Family or for the man he is?" Earlene let out a laugh, "Even if the Bartram family isn't as powerful as The Leoz family, I'm still not the power hungry type."
"Then it's because of the man he is." Winston understood.
