Let Me Love You Again -
Chapter 79
Jess
They set me up in a giant room, I was dipped in pillows, and I had several devices attached to my belly to monitor children’s heartbeats, But for the moment everything was fine and it seemed that the babies could be born of natural birth and there was no need to do a C-section.
The contractions continued to increase and the pain was so excruciating that I found myself insulting over and over again my wonderful husband who merely read and reread my medical records as if it were the most interesting book in the world.
I clung to the bed when another, stronger contraction hit me and made my teeth grind.
“Fuuuuuuuuck! I swear nothing will come in and come out of my p***y anymore,” I said, crying, “You’ll never get near me again. No more s*x!” shouted loudly.
Andrew didn’t say anything and he came up to me and sat down by the bed then I grabbed my hand and I squeezed it when I got another contraction.
“AAAAAAAAH” I shouted trying to bend “I HATE YOU ANDREW SPRING! YOU AND YOUR FIERY d**k DID THIS!”
Andrew again said nothing while I continued to fill him with swear words in all languages.
“Stop it! I can’t take it anymore! Put them out immediately!” I shouted.
“It’s not the time yet, Babe, you’re not dilated yet,” Andrew gently said.
“YOU DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT TO TALK! IT’S YOUR FAULT!” I said, “Give me something, make it stop,” I began to cry.
The door opened and, unlike before my parents and Andrew’s, this time Maya’s little brown head appeared.
“WHERE THE f**k YOU WERE MAYA!” I screamed and for a moment I saw her go back before she was pushed by my brother, the a*****e.
“I’m tempted to go home,” she said as she came over to me and began to caress my sweaty forehead.
“C’mon baby girl, it will pass. Think of when you will have them in your arms,” she said softly.
I was about to respond when another contraction caught up with me and I cried again as tears began to flow down my cheeks.
Once I passed, I turned and found my brother staring intently at my belly, he was cadaveric white. I didn’t like the way he was looking at me, it just made me nervous.
“What are you looking at, dickhead,” I said with my teeth clenched.
Nate didn’t answer me, he just looked at me, his eyes were completely lost and he seemed scared of something.
“How often are the contractions?” Maya asked Andrew.
“Every seven,” he said seriously.
“Dilation?” Maya asked as she caressed my belly
“Five”
“You’re almost there, you’re only halfway there,” Maya said.
“Is that pain normal?” Pale Nate asked.
“Totally normal, baby. It’s part of the process. When you’re almost fully dilated, you can have the epidural. Please, Jess, don’t be stupid, the twins are worse. Ask for the epidural!” she said, despotic.
I nodded defeat, I had no intention of rejecting it.
“But is it always like this?” Nate repeated, looking at Maya.
“It’s the process, Nate.”
“But she seems to be suffering,” Nate continued, frightened.
“What the f**k?!” I asked aggressively.
Maya glared at Nate and then pushed him toward the door, “Nothing he is afraid of everything. We’ll stand outside and wait all night if necessary,” she said as he walked to the door.
Before she could open that one opened and one of the nurses on duty. Maya froze and the nurse did the same, looking at her from head to toe.
“Maya,” he said.
Nate stepped forward and pushed Maya out of the room without letting her say anything and closing the door behind him. The nurse looked at the closed door for a moment before sighing and coming towards the bed.
I g*****d again and touched my belly, hoping that that Chinese torture would soon end so that my children would be in my arms.
Maya
We left Jess’s room and I was surprised. I expected Everyone to see except for Brad. Philadelphia was a huge city but it seemed that I could not avoid him in any way.
Nate and I went to sit in the chairs in the hallway, where Jess and Andrew’s parents were also sitting, along with Lucas and Devon who had no intention of entering Jess’ room for fear of finding a bloodbath, as if it were a f*****g c*****e.
Nate took me to one of the chairs and sat me down.
“Did you know he was here?” he asked, scowling.
“I don’t know every move of my ex,” I replied with a similar frown.
Luckily, we left Axel at my parents’ house when Andrew called. We threw them out of bed and left Axel with them, and then they’d worry about taking them to kindergarten.
I had no intention of letting Brad see Axel from afar, I knew he’d seen him before, but I didn’t want to give him another chance.
It was wrong yes. But Brad was not the right figure to be close to my child, he had hurt me too much, he had abandoned me and I did not want him next to me. He lost all his rights the moment he left me.
Nate collapsed next to me and closed his eyes. He was completely pale and a patina of sweat covered his face.
I stroked him on the thigh when Jess’s bedroom door opened and Brad walked out, in a few steps he was in front of me.
“Maya,” he said, looking at me with his blue eyes that until recently made me tremble, never as with Nate.
And that’s when I realized that everything had changed. It was as if everything I felt for him, that there was between us, had completely vanished into thin air. I felt nothing watching him. Nothing moved me at all.
I was just worried about my friend.
Nate stood beside me and I leaned against him.
“Can we talk?” he asked hopefully.
“Can’t you see it’s not the time?” I said, frowning.
“It’s never the time,” he said with gritted teeth.
“My friend is in labor, Brad, and I don’t want to hear from you right now,” I said, trying to be quiet so that Nate would calm down next to me.
Brad sighed and shook his head, “But I want to talk to Maya,” he said serenely before leaving.
I frowned and watched as he disappeared into the hallway before leaning back to Nate.
“I thought he was making a scene,” I sighed.
Nate shrugged and hugged me, “Are you okay?” he asked softly.
“Wonderfully,” I said, smiling at him.
Nate kissed me on the forehead and sighed in peace, as I had seen since that afternoon.
