Maya

I sat at the table while I was reading the paperwork that Nate brought. If I’d signed with him, Nate would have become Axel’s father, he would have brought his last name, and half the custody would have gone to him and a half to me. No one could ever challenge anything because it was a full-blown adoption.

But all this made me doubt. When did he have it all prepared? Everything that was happening over the last few days seemed very sudden, but I couldn’t think that it wasn’t something that Nate had studied.

I looked at Axel in the table chair.

He loved Nate like crazy and Nate loved Axel like crazy, it didn’t surprise me that he wanted to make it official, that he wanted everyone to know that Axel was his son, so it was possible that he had thought of everything for a long time.

When he proposed, he asked me if I would accept Axel’s change of name, but we never really talked about it, it was an idea we were ready to consider after the wedding. Why now? But we were married, so it wasn’t totally weird.

Axel laughed and I smiled. I had to think about the good of my child and I knew that what was good for Axel was Nate.

I took the pen and signed it next to Nate’s name, in all the spaces he had marked. After finishing, I closed the file and put it back in the folder before putting it in Nate’s work bag and then worrying about setting the table.

Nate came out of the room wearing a gray, shirtless jumpsuit, his bare feet rubbing against the floor from exhaustion.

I put the chicken on the sink and started splitting it into plates when Nate hugged me from behind and kissed me lightly on the cheek.

“Did you miss me like crazy?” he asked me, joining his body to mine.

I laughed and rubbed my butt against him as I prepared the dishes, “A lot, but I thought about you,” I said.

“Ah yes?”

I nodded, “While I was in the tub and touching myself, I thought of you and your fabulous tongue,” I said languidly.

“Did you touch yourself without me?” he asked in astonishment and I nodded again, “I can’t believe it! You can’t do it without me, Mrs. Dare. I think tonight you’ll have to show me what you did, I have to show you where you’re wrong,” he said and gave me another k**s before he left and sat next to Axel.

I put the plates on the table and we started eating, “Did you look at the documents I brought you?” Nate asked.

“It’s in your folder,” I answered as I fed Axel.

“And?”

“And what is it?”

“What do you think?”

“Why all the hurry? What has changed?”

“Nothing, I just didn’t want to waste time,” Nate shrugged, but something told me that he wasn’t completely honest with me, something was hiding me.

“Anyway, I signed them,” I sighed.

“Well, then don’t ask so many questions”

“What are you hiding from me?” I asked puzzled.

“Nothing, don’t worry,” he said and began to eat again.

I snuck under the covers and got the schedule paper. Under Nate’s advice, I decided to pause work and dedicate myself completely to studying so that I could take all the classes and finish school quickly.

I studied all the schedules, if I organized well I could also be with Axel maybe at my parents’ house since the school was closer to them than to my apartment.

Now that I thought about it, that apartment was ours, or maybe we’ll go to Nate’s house? We hadn’t talked about it yet, there were still too many things we hadn’t talked about like the hasty wedding we had made.

I sighed and leaned on the headboard as I heard Nate talking to Axel from the baby monitor.

Maybe I should have thought about putting him in kindergarten from September.

Axel was going to be a year old this summer, and I couldn’t expect my parents to keep taking responsibility for him all day, maybe if I decided to send him to daycare in the morning, I would have been even freer and he would have started to meet other children.

And maybe I should have moved fast because of the long waiting lists for kindergartens. I sighed and looked at the card again.

How was I supposed to make all of that coincide with school? Was I really going to be able to make it happen?

I sighed again.

“To what do I owe all this sighing?” Nate said as he entered the room.

I looked up and I saw him as he started to take off his pants, remaining alone with his boxers, then he slipped under the covers and came towards me.

He surrounded my pelvis with one arm and put his head on my breast. I put a hand in his hair while I was intoxicated by his perfume.

“Some thoughts,” I said

“Share your thoughts with me, in the end, I’m your husband,” he said, lifting his head and looking at me with his blue eyes that made me wet immediately.

“I was thinking of starting to enroll Axel in kindergarten, you know how long the waiting lists are,” I said looking at the paper I was holding.

“Why?” he asked doubtfully.

“Because it will be one year old and it is better if in September kindergarten begins, so it can also be with other children,” I said.

“We don’t have to,” he replied.

“Nate, let’s not argue about this. Axel will have to go to kindergarten sooner or later and with both engaged, we can not weigh too much on my parents”

“My parents are here too”

“And when will the twins be born? Do you really want to fill them with babies?”

“Why not? They would be happy and not complain, Dad will soon retire and will have nothing to do,” he replied again.

“No” I sighed and I looked at him “I know you want to keep him home as long as possible but you have to learn to let go, kindergarten will be the best choice, he will stay with other children, please don’t dwell on this”.

“I choose it,” he said resolutely.

I rolled my eyes and bent over to give him a gentle k**s on the lips.

“It won’t be tomorrow, it’ll be September, so you still have time,” I said.

Nate nodded and returned with his head on my lap as he also looked at the schedule card with his frowning forehead.

“What’s this?”

“This is the schedule sheet of the course, I decided to do as you suggested and take a break from work, so I can focus on my studies” Nate nodded proudly “I’m trying to get organized. The school is near my parents’ house if I organize myself well I can spend my free time with Axel and go to classes”.

“It’s far from the apartment,” he reflected.

“About the apartment,” I began to say, “We are happily married now and we live together or not, you still have a lot of things in your apartment. Do you want to keep your foot in two?”

“If you want me to take you a house, just ask,” Nate replied, kissing me on the chest.

“I’m not telling you this,” I rolled my eyes.

“But I’m telling you, I want us to get a house together, a real house, you, me, and Axel.”

I looked down at him, “Are you serious?”

“Very serious, mon amour”

He pulled himself up a little and I kissed, taking off the sheet of my hand and I completely abandoned myself to him.
