Let Me Love You Again -
Chapter 59
Nate
I placed the car seat in the car in complete silence as Maya approached with Axel in her arms. I put the bag on the floor and took Axel from Maya, putting him in the car seat.
“Are you ok?” Maya asked with her frowning forehead while I tied Axel tightly.
In silence, I took the stroller and placed it next to Axel, putting it well in the little place available since the hood was full of the things we had bought that morning.
After finishing, I closed the door and entered my seat, immediately turning on the car.
Maya hurried in, and She entered too. I didn’t even give her time to fasten her seatbelt that darted across the streets.
“Nate?” Maya said as I passed a light at full speed, getting the horn from the other driver “Nate!” Maya shouted, “You have a child in the car! Slow down!”.
I slowed down a little and started to go more calmly as I passed a hand on my face. I was not quiet at all.
After reading that message, I spent hours looking at the ceiling, trying to sleep next to Maya and Axel, but I couldn’t. As soon as I closed my eyes, I saw that man coming and taking them away.
I was afraid it would take away the love of my life, the woman I loved most in the world, and my son because he was mine. He may have been his b***d father, he may have fathered him, but he was nothing but a s***m donor, and he had no right to show up in this town and contact Maya again or approach her believing that he could take her back, that he could take her away. I would never let him or anyone else.
“What the hell is wrong with you?” Maya suddenly blurted out.
I looked at the street and noticed that I had already arrived at my parents’ house, where the party would be held in the garden. I parked and turned off the engine, and then turned to face Maya, who was looking out the window with her arms crossed. I untied my belt and grabbed her face with my hands before kissing her with everything I had. All the love I felt for her, the desire, passion, and happiness I felt in her presence.
Maya was surprised by my sudden attack, and she laid her hands on my shoulders as she tried to respond to my k**s, my tongue fiercely colliding with her, my lips dancing on hers as I took her breath away.
“You are mine,” I growled against her lips as Maya remained with her eyes closed and her lips stretched out towards me and red, her breath irregular.
“Forever,” Maya replied, opening her gray eyes and darkened by the desire, “What’s the matter with you?” she then asked me as she passed her index finger over my lips to take off the lipstick that had stuck to me.
I stiffened again, “Nothing but reiterating the concept,” I answered, leaving her.
Maya frowned, but I didn’t give her time that immediately she got out of the car and opened the back door. I pulled out the stroller, and then I approached Axel, who stretched his arms towards me with a “Dada!” full lungs.
I heard Maya sigh before opening the door and going out while I put Axel in the stroller and fixed him up.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with you, but it’s not over here. We’ll talk about it later,” she said as she picked up her phone and called Lucas.
No, she didn’t see the texts from that piece of s**t because I was worried about erasing them right away. I trusted Maya, I trusted her more than every other person in the world, but I didn’t want her to have any contact with that a*****e. I didn’t even want her to talk to him. I didn’t want him to get close.
This was my family, and I would never let him get close to them.
“Is Lucas coming?” I asked her as I got up, and I put myself behind the stroller.
Maya nodded and glanced at me as I walked over to my parents’ access gate.
“I’m going in. I need to talk to Dad,” I said, turning around.
“Nate?” I froze and turned my head to look at her, “Are you okay?” she asked. I didn’t answer, but I nodded, and I went, “You know I love you, right?” she said again.
I turned, and the look got sweeter automatically. “I love you too,” I said smiling before entering through the gate and colliding with Lucas, who came running from the back garden.
“Be careful,” I told him before I went to the garden.
My parents’ garden was full. Under the gazebo there were two huge cupcakes made in pink and blue glass, on the poles of the gazebo there were pink and blue balloons, as well as in the whole garden. On another table, there were several gifts, while on a ladder there was Andrew, who was taking care of arranging other balloons, while my sister was sitting comfortably in an armchair, with a summer green dress that highlighted the small belly on which she had laid a hand.
My father was next to Andrew and he was giving him directions on how to arrange the decorations. I approached him pushing the stroller.
“I need to talk to you,” I told my father seriously, I turned to Jess, “And with you,” I pointed to her.
Jess got up and my father handed other decorations to Andrew before approaching. I turned around and pushed the stroller home, I walked in followed by Jess and my father and I quickly walked to Dad’s office opening the door quickly and going to the desk. I stopped and pulled Axel out of the stroller before I sat down.
My sister sat next to me and my dad in front. Jess got comfortable and put his hand on his belly while I put Axel on my lap.
“What’s so important is that I’m distracted from my party,” Jess said.
I looked at Dad who had put his elbows on the table and had his hands crossed in front of his mouth, waiting for me to talk.
“Maya’s ex contacted her,” I said, putting a hand through Axel’s blond hair.
“Brad?” Jess asked. I nodded and kept looking at Dad. “What about Maya?”
“She doesn’t know,” I admitted, “He wrote her a message that he wants to see her and talk, I deleted it,” I continued seriously.
“You can’t do that, Nate, you know how pissed she’s gonna be if she finds out”.
“I think we met him this morning,” I said again. “Maya didn’t see him, but when I went to pick her up at the hospital there was this guy who kept looking at her in a strange way, and shortly after she got that message, it’s not a coincidence”.
“What do you want to do?” my father asked.
“If he wanted, he can claim paternity, he could take her to court. It would put at risk everything that I struggled to get”, I admitted in front of my father while Axel grabbed my hand and played with it.
“You can’t stop him from seeing his son, he’s always the father,” said Dad, leaning against the back of his chair.
“He lost that right the moment he kicked pregnant Maya out of the house and turned her down,” Jess seriously said.
“Not for a judge,” my father replied.
“We have to make sure he can’t ask for anything, we have to make sure he has no legal rights,” I said.
“I agree,” answered my sister.
“We must do it immediately. If that man I saw is him, it means he works in her own hospital. If so, it won’t be long before he approaches her and tries to talk to her about Axel,” I said seriously.
“You can’t make decisions without consulting Maya, you know that?” my father asked.
“Maya doesn’t want anything to do with him, she doesn’t even want him anywhere near Axel, she’ll agree with whatever decision we make. But it is imperative that we move quickly to prevent him from contacting a lawyer and asking for the paternity test and his rights over the child,” my sister said as she approached and passed a hand through Axel’s hair who immediately lifted his head and looked at her laughing.
“I don’t find it ethically correct, but I’ll make sure to have everything ready by Monday,” my father said, looking at Axel “If he starts a lawsuit against Maya, a judge could agree with him and take the child away, he would have full custody and Maya could only see him a few days a week or a month,” my father continued.
Maya was family all along, and so was Axel. My parents loved him as much as I did, and they would never let anyone get in their way or threaten to take him away.
“Adoption is the only way, but Maya will have to leave custody to you completely,” Jess said, grabbing Axel’s hand “It means she will lose any claim on the child anyway,” she continued, not looking away from Axel.
“Not if we’re married,” I said.
“If she had your last name, she’d have custody of Axel with you once you signed the adoption,” Dad said.
“So you want to marry her instantly? Make sure that Brad has no right to her or the baby?” Jess asked.
I nodded as my father sighed.
“I’ll talk to the judge and the social worker, and I’ll make sure I get the adoption papers by Monday, Nate recalls, I couldn’t expedite the trial this way, it wouldn’t be morally fair, I’m only doing this for you, but I need you to make sure Maya agrees to the marriage and adoption,” my father said seriously.
I nodded and I took the phone.
“What do you want to do?” Jess asked.
“I’ll tell Lucas to get his license online, you pull out one of your best clothes, send Andrew home, I don’t care, we’ll do it tonight.”
“Long live romance,” Jess said, arms crossed to her chest.
“We can leave the romance to another time Jess. This is an important issue and we have no time!” I replied as Axel tried to stand up and walk towards the desk.
At that moment someone knocked on the door and my father shouted “Come in!” while I had Axel on the table, who immediately went towards my father crawling happily.
Lucas “Did you call me?” he said annoyed.
