Let Me Love You Again -
Chapter 28
Maya
I found him there, leaned against the door frame, with one hand in his pocket while in the other he kept an envelope with some takeaway food, his black hair was ruffled, his blue eyes shone cheerfully. My heart started to freak out through my chest and I wasn’t sure if it was due to its devastating presence or the fact that most likely I had a fever.
I opted for the second.
“If you’ve come to f**k, it’s not your lucky day,” I said, turning my back as I went to the kitchen.
“Wow, what a way to greet,” he said as he entered and closed the door, “Have you become a vampire?” He went on lighting some lights while I went into the kitchen to swallow my medicine.
I heard Nate come in behind me and put the envelope on the table.
“Are you okay?” he asked, there was a hint of concern in his tone of voice.
“Ready to run the Boston Marathon,” I replied by sending down my pills and coughing loudly.
“I can see it,” Nate said as he approached me and put his hand on my forehead.
I drove him away immediately.
“Right now I could be used as a weapon of mass destruction,” I said, as I pulled up my nose.
Not the cold too.
Nate looked around worried.
“Where is Axel?” he asked after an inspection.
“With my mother,” I answered by taking the saucepan and pouring water into it.
“And you’re here alone?” he asked again.
“I don’t know if you remember, but I’m a f*****g nurse, I know what to do with illness,” I said as the saucepan slid through my hands and I cursed.
Immediately, Nate rushed over to me and took the pot out of my hand and filled it with water before putting it on the fire.
“Can you stay away from me? Don’t you listen to me when I tell you I’m a bacteria bomb?” I said, almost exasperated.
“You’re a bomb but not bacteria,” he replied, rolling his eyes, “I won’t abandon you to your fate for fear of some bacteria,” he continued, putting his hands on my shoulders and pushing me towards the bedroom.
“Nate,” I said.
“No Nate. Get in bed, I’ll make you some tea,” he insisted.
“You’ll catch a fever”.
“Then you’ll take care of me, maybe dressing up like a sexy nurse and taking my temperature,” he said winking.
“Sticking a thermometer up your a*s?” I said, distraught and powerless.
“I’ve never tried that sexy game but I’m open to anything,” he replied, taking me to my room. I threw myself into bed and Nate put the covers on while I sighed heartily “Did you eat?” He asked me, sitting on his heels and looking at me as I put my hand under the pillow and looked at him.
“I slept, took medicine and slept again,” I sighed.
“Medicine doesn’t count as food,” he said, putting his hand on my cheek and passing his thumb over it, his touch was soft and sweet, and it gave me chills all over my body, “I make you eat,” he finally said resolutely.
“Medicine doesn’t count as food,” he said, putting his hand on my cheek and passing his thumb over it, his touch was soft and sweet, and it gave me chills all over my body, “I make you eat,” he finally said resolutely.
“Will you cook me?” I asked for surprise.
“I can’t cook,” Nate shook his head, “But I can use the phone, and I can call the restaurant around the corner and get you some soup,” he said more to himself than to me, “Wait here”.
He got up and went back to the kitchen, heard him slam several plates and then came back holding a steaming cup. I pulled myself up and sat down, resting the pillow on the headboard.
He handed me the cup of tea and sat down next to me, handling some of the medicines, reading with his frowning forehead each name, his confused look.
I sipped some of my tea watching as the hot liquid warmed me from the inside and relaxed me.
“You don’t even know where to start and you want to take care of me?” I said, sinking into my pillow.
“I didn’t study to be a nurse,” he said, reading the instructions of one of the medicines.
“You don’t need a medical degree to know which medicine should be taken and which not,” I answered.
“You distract me,” he said, reading carefully.
I was sipping tea while I watched him in all his beauty. Maybe it was the fever talking, but I wanted to throw myself at him and k**s him until we were out of breath.
He was so sexy with his sweatshirt and his gray jumpsuit, his black hair messed up, his frowny look as he continued to read undaunted. I turned to my side and watched him enchanted as my heart galloped through my chest.
The fever must have been pretty high.
“If you keep staring at me like that, you’re gonna wear me out,” Nate said without turning around.
“I’m not staring at you,” I said, emptying the cup and placing it on my bedside table before I went back to my position and looked at his profile.
“Isn’t that right?” he asked, looking at me, as a wonderful smile popped up on his lips, making me lose my breath.
Nate looked back on the coupon as I watched him closely. When he was concentrated, a wrinkle of concern formed on his forehead and his blue eyes darkened, while he bit his l*p and then passed his tongue. I wanted to, too.
I wanted to sink my fingers into his hair that I knew how soft and soft they were, I wanted to sink my face into his neck and taste his mind-blowing smell, let him rock me completely and forget the rest of the world.
“Okay!” he suddenly exclaimed, looking up and laying it on me, “This is to be taken every four hours,” he said, lifting up a box of medicine, “This is every eight,” he continued by raising the other.
A smile appeared on my lips as I noticed how proud he was.
“I’m impressed,” I said laughing before coughing loudly as phlegm forms in my throat.
Nate put his hand on my forehead, feeling my body temperature.
“You’re still hot, not just because you’re in bed with me,” he said, looking softly into my eyes.
I leaned to his touch and closed my eyes sighing, enjoying the feeling of his skin against mine, letting myself be lulled by his touch that brought me calm and turmoil at the same time, making me feel protected in a way that had never happened to me before.
“Maybe you should take one of these things,” he continued, stroking my cheek.
“I just took it,” I said in a sigh as I let myself sink into the pillow.
I had to admit I didn’t mind getting all that attention, especially if it came from Nate.
“You really got a bad fever,” Nate said as he lay next to me.
We were both lying on our sides, an arm under the pillow our heads were resting on as we looked straight into each other’s eyes.
“The risks of working in a hospital,” I sighed.
“Luckily you have me,” Nate said seriously, a flash of lightning ran through his eyes.
I had him.
I was going to say something, but the bell rang and Nate got up.
“This must be your dinner,” he said as he left the room.
I lay on my back as I heard him in the living room.
I’d never had, other than my parents, someone to take care of me the same way Nate was. Brad didn’t take care of me either, ever.
A strange feeling was beginning to form within me. An infinite sadness in thinking about the last few years. How lonely I really was.
From the moment I found out I was pregnant I was alone. My parents had not been able to arrive in time for the day of childbirth and I had faced everything alone with some nurse and my gynecologist.
I had taken care of myself in those nine months, endlessly telling myself that I was strong and that I could do it on my own.
After the birth, my parents stayed with me for a few weeks to let me recover and help with the baby, then I decided to be alone again. I used to spend nights waking up to nurse Axel, to change him, to lull him. Alone. I was always alone. I had never had someone who cared so much about me that they risked taking the flu rather than leaving me alone.
Something hot came out of me, from my heart it radiated all over my body just thinking about Nate. In imagining he’s here with me. Forever.
