Let Me Love You Again -
Chapter 131
Maya
December had arrived and gone as well as another year. We were already in January and if I had thought about everything that had happened in the last year I would have seemed to have lived a hundred lives of different people. A year ago, Nate and I had just come out of limbo and we decided to be together, to give ourselves a chance, despite the many doubts and fears we had chosen.
And now, a year later, we were in a house of our own, with a wonderful child growing up every day in the midst of happiness, a baby coming and our wonderful wedding. I was happy, yes. If a few years ago they asked me what I wanted to be happy, I would never have been able to imagine such a life, I would never have thought of a family like the one we were creating, and yet now, I couldn’t imagine myself without them.
“What are you thinking?” I heard Nate’s voice come up and I looked up from the ceiling to the door of the walk-in closet where he was standing, as he put his tie around his neck, his hair still ruffled after our morning of fire, his blue eyes gleaming cheerfully.
No matter how big I got, Nate always seemed to never have enough of me, like I never had enough of him, and that made me feel a little bit better about myself, and the outdated shapes I’d taken in the last few months.
“I was thinking of you,” I said, looking at him dreamily.
No matter how much I looked at him, I never got tired, I would stare at him for hours and hours without ever stopping.
Nate smiled and fixed his tie and then closed the closet and approached me. He leaned over and kissed me, putting his hands on the sides of my head to support himself, I stuck my fingers in his hair as I kissed him with the same sweetness and intensity that he put.
I sighed satisfied when I pulled away from him and looked him in the eye, he gave me a radiant smile and then rubbed his nose against mine and then he lifted.
I clumsily settled on the bed, resting my back on the pillows and looking at it. By now my movements had become clumsy and slow, I could barely stand for more than two minutes, I couldn’t see my feet and I couldn’t even put on pants. I had become huge, gigantic like a balloon and now I spent most of my time in bed reading or studying.
“Today I have a meeting with the boss, I’m taking Axel to kindergarten and then my mother’s picking him up, she wants to take him shopping,” Nate said, adjusting his hair that I had messed up, “Then she brings him home. I’m going to pick up dinner right after I get off and come straight back to you,” he said lovingly.
I nodded and I looked at him. Nate was tense.
Just before Christmas, he had clarified, in part, with his father. Nate still had it for the trip he made him take, even though it did him a lot of good.
After that case, Nate’s career had taken off like never before, and despite the fact that he was named after one of the country’s well-known signatures, job offers were flushed and many law firms in the country had specifically asked for him, bringing some rather succulent offerings that he himself was tempted to accept.
That was a turbulent time. His father left him no cases after the fight and the outburst that Nate had made and he in return had been tempted by all kinds of offers. He’d spent nights pondering what our lives would be like if he chose just one if he moved to another law firm. And so it had gone on for weeks until he had decided to accept an offer, very juicy, very fruitful for his career.
He had to sign the contract and yes, Nate would have done so, he would have abandoned his inheritance too if it was the one that would have taken him higher in his career, which was just as important to him. He had decided to move to another firm and was going to sign his resignation in his father’s studio but, when he had set foot inside his father’s office, he had come up with an offer that exceeded all he had had in the previous weeks, so he had accepted.
When he got home he had laughed and celebrated, and he was relieved because he really thought he had to move to another law firm. He confided in me that until the very last minute he wanted his father to give up and give him what he deserved, and he risked it, even though he got what he wanted.
Now he ran his own team, handled the most important cases, and took almost all of his father’s duties. Every night he’d come home so satisfied, my heart would fill for him.
From that moment on, his relationship with his father had calmed down and they were more relaxed, even if Jess didn’t like it at all, because she was working triple because Nate had passed.
I sighed and Axel entered the room, dressed for kindergarten with his backpack on his shoulder like a real little man. Everything about him was clean and precise, even the crayons with which he drew and put in his backpack were always super tidy.
Axel took off his backpack and placed it on the ground, then approached the bed and climbed with difficulty, pushing himself with his legs. He crawled towards me and I opened my arms wide, leaving him squatting on me, always paying attention to his belly.
“Mama good,” Axel said, staring me in the eye.
“Axel good,” I said, giving him a k**s on the nose and making him laugh.
“Axel will be back soon, Mom,” he said in his sweet voice.
He was so sweet and tender that I wanted to fill him with k****s everywhere, I loved him so much. I kissed him for a while and then he came off.
“No more Mom, Axel late,” he said, putting his shirt on and getting out of bed.
Nate looked at him as he grabbed his backpack and shouldered it.
“Okay, dad,” he said authoritarian before leaving the room.
Nate looked at me with a furrowed forehead and then shook his head and followed him and left, too. I sighed and snuggled up in bed while I took the remote and turned on the television. Maybe I would watch a good movie.

All day I had a strange feeling, like continuous anxiety that did not want to leave.
I put on the stove the kettle for a relaxing herbal tea. It was early in the afternoon and Axel was hanging out with his grandmother who was probably stuffing him with presents, Nate was in a meeting, and he wouldn’t even respond to the messages I sent him.
I felt a bit lonely lately, I didn’t like being at home so much, and I didn’t like being limited in my movements at all. I wasn’t that clumsy with Axel, in fact, Axel’s pregnancy was a walk in the park compared to this, but maybe it was the genes.
I texted Lucas, who most likely got off work and was picking up the twins from his mother. I wouldn’t mind a little company.
Luc, will you stop by? I have a house and I’m alone.
Is it an indecent proposal May? Your husband does not satisfy you enough?
You know how pregnancy hormones are, it’s never enough.
Okay! I’ll be right over.
I laughed and poured the hot water from the cup. I felt a pain in her lower abdomen and I clung to the cabinet with my hands, gritting my teeth. I breathed deeply and waited for it to pass. Those contractions were hitting me the last few days, but they were all false alarms, which meant that the delivery time was coming closer and I was super excited, as well as terrified. I couldn’t wait to see my baby and hold her in my arms.
When the pain passed I took the cup and sat on the sofa with a sigh.
Lucas arrived about ten minutes later and rang the bell. Very calmly and slowly I went to open the small automatic gate, letting him in with the pram with a double cradle with cufflinks. I opened the door and I waited for him to get closer.
“Hey May all right? You’re a little pale and sweaty,” she asked me once near the door.
“Well, you’ve been making me wait up for 20 minutes, you might as well take it easy,” I said, holding on to the door frame.
“Sorry, May,” he said as he came to the door and kissed me on the cheek, “Go and sit, I’ll close.”
With a sigh, I went towards the sofa but I stuck on my feet, feeling again the excruciating pain in my tummy. I supported myself on the wall and I took inspiration from my nose, waiting for it to pass.
“May?” Lucas heard behind my back.
“It’s okay, it’s just a fake…” I didn’t have time to finish the sentence I felt a small twinge, then a liquid running between my legs “Oh f**k” I said looking at the pool of water that was forming at my feet.
“Why always when I’m around?” Lucas heard.
