Let Me Love You Again
Chapter 102

Nate

That morning I woke up at dawn, the sun was just peeping out. Maya was completely wrapped up and lying on me. She had one leg put around my h**s and with one arm she held me close to her, the head was resting on my chest and I could feel her breath warm on my skin.

I was completely immobilized. Not that I was sorry. Finding myself in Maya’s possessive embrace made me relax my body and mind that that night had been completely in chaos.

I blinked several times, realizing that, for the first time in weeks, Axel hadn’t woken up during the night, he had slept all night and I didn’t know if it was for the evening tea or if his mind had just started to water.

I kissed Maya on the head and moved her, trying not to wake her, as I wriggled from her embrace. Maya sighed annoyed and lay down on her back with her hands raised and the blanket on her legs. Her hair was completely messed up and in front of her face. I laughed at seeing her like that and I bent down to leave her a k**s on her round tummy.

I got up and went to the bathroom to rinse and get dressed. Once I was ready, I went to Axel’s room and found him sitting on the bed while he was rubbing his sleepy eyes.

“Daddy,” he said, yawning, then stretching his arms toward me.

I picked him up and gave him a k**s on the cheek while he held onto my neck “Do you want to have breakfast with Dad or do you want to go back to bed with Mom?” I asked him to put it on the changing table to clean it.

Axel seemed to think about it in silence while I changed it and dressed it. Once clean I put him on his feet and he looked at me carefully while I reciprocated and raised an eyebrow.

“Mommy” finally he said as it was the hardest decision of her life.

I ruffled his hair and picked him up in my arms and then left his room and headed for ours. Maya had laid on her side and carried her hands under her pillow while her hair was completely in front of her face.

“Watch your mama’s belly,” I said to Axel, whispering.

He nodded seriously “Delly” he repeated.

I laughed and I put him on the bed and he started crawling to Maya and then crouching next to her and sighing as if he had struggled all his life to get to that place. He laughed again and went out of the room and then out of the house, preparing me to face another day of work while the date of my departure was getting closer and closer.

Maya

The day had practically flown by and I felt more tired than ever. That was the first night Axel had slept a whole night without waking up screaming. I couldn’t understand what that change was about. That it was the day spent with the twins? Yet, he had done nothing but spend the day with Emma or sleep. I didn’t really understand but I couldn’t help but feel happy about that change and I hoped it would last.

It was late afternoon and I had closed the books, I wanted to prepare myself for the exams at the end of the semester in such a way as to give them as soon as possible before the birth of the baby which would be around February.

I didn’t have the slightest desire to cook, I felt completely tired and I wanted a burger with chips, I woke up with that fixed thought that morning. Axel was next to me looking at me with his blue eyes, and all I had in my head was a picture of a nice burger.

I lay down on the sofa and caressed my belly, even though the child did not move yet, I felt her. With every movement I could feel his presence, maybe he was taking as much comfort as his father. I was already trembling that he might have the same character as my wonderful husband.

“Mommy” Axel’s voice distracted me from my thoughts.

I looked down and I found him standing next to me with his hands on the sofa.

“Daddy say carefull delly, Axel carefull,” Axel said with a seriousness I’d never seen before.

I laughed as he moved his gaze to his belly, reaching out his hand and touching it with his finger, being careful not to push too much.

“Mommy eat too much,” he said, slurring his words.

I laughed again and caressed my tummy “Mommy has your little sister Axel”.

Axel looked at me and looked out and then looked back at my tummy, “Mommy eat sister,” he said, almost frightened.

I laughed and picked him up, paying attention to his tummy and putting him on my legs. Axel’s gaze was on my tummy.

“No good mommy, no eat sister,” he said harshly.

“Mommy doesn’t eat little sister,” I said.

“And then Mom pits it out like Axel with wing gum,” Axel said, raising an eyebrow.

I tried to restrain myself so as not to burst out laughing furiously. Axel got offended and crossed his arms against his chest, I took his cell phone, and I took a picture of him immediately, and then I sent it to Nate.

I took advantage of the fact that the screen appeared in the chat to call him. Nate answered the first call.

“Mon amour,” he said in a sigh.

“You’re not very happy to hear me,” I said as Axel looked closely at my tummy.

“I just got in a fight with a client, and hearing your voice is like a ray of sunshine during a storm,” he said in an obviously tired tone.

“You are working too much, love. Come back home,” I said, missing him.

“I’m shutting down my computer right now”

“Well, I’ll wait for you at home with Axel who is convinced that I ate his little sister,” I said laughing.

Axel lifted his head up and bent it to the side, then looked back at my tummy.

Nate burst out laughing at the other line and I felt his heart do a somersault in his chest.

“I miss you” I admitted in a honeyed tone. Nate silenced himself suddenly, he couldn’t even feel his breath anymore and I frowned “Nate?” I asked after a few minutes.

“Sorry, I was thinking,” he heard some background sounds and then a door closed, “I’m just leaving the office.”

“Good so you can stop for dinner,” I said cheerfully.

“Daddy dinner,” Axel said seriously.

Nate sighed, “What does my queen want?”

“Burgers and fries, thank you,” Axel said, snapping his head up and looking out.

“DADDY!” he suddenly shouted “AXEL HAPPY NEAL!” he went on and on.

He pushed on me and tried to get close to the phone by taking it out of my hand and beginning to scream at the top of his lungs.

“Axel be careful, you’re hurting me,” I complained, moving him from above me and sitting on the couch.

“Happy Neal!” he kept yelling and I reached for the speakerphone.

“Yes Axel I get it, Dad takes what you want,” Nate said, exasperated.

Axel started humming cheerful Happy Meal and I picked up the phone again, “So I’m looking forward to it,” I said cheerfully.

“I can’t wait,” Nate replied, but his tone was off, but before I could say anything, he hung up and I looked at the phone with a frown.

Something was wrong and I could feel it in my bones. Nate was hiding something from me.
