I’m Not Yours, Alpha – Chapter 60
Madox was attending to Julian when she heard Aidan’s words. Her eyes opened and she turned her face towards him showing her fangs.
-Aidan,” her voice sounded low in his direction, “What did you say?
The omega took a step back from the pressure he felt against his person. Madox’s pheromones stung his nose and a cold sweat ran down his back. He paled. He never imagined he would see that expression, that alpha who normally had a loose tongue and a rather odd smile, now looked really annoyed.
Dominic’s back soon covered him from the older alpha who had stood up and was walking towards him.
-Madox,” Dominic warned him calmly.
He didn’t want to provoke him and especially not with two omegas inside that room. Besides what he was acting on right now was his feelings, not his reasoning.
Madox stopped and looked up and down at his friend realizing the situation. He had lost his sanity for mere seconds. He retracted his pheromones and took a deep breath. He reached up and brushed back his hair, but his fangs were still dangerously visible.
-Speak,” he ordered Aidan.
The omega’s hands released his partner’s back. His breathing was a little labored, but he held his ground.
-He was the one who told me not to tell. He almost implored me. I never thought it would be such a big deal.
Madox’s eyes narrowed. Dominic’s hand caressed his head, encouraging him to continue.
-A few days ago, precisely that one when I called you because he had a fever, we decided to rest for a while in the cafeteria at the mall. We were there for a while when an alpha approached- he heard the two men in the room growl slightly, it was already known how dominant they were- I didn’t know who it was, but he seemed to know Julian very well. He was very nervous.
-What else?” Madox sat back down on the edge of the bed. His eyes were two blocks of ice.
-He said Julian was his fiancé and that he’d come looking for him- Aidan’s words hit the alpha’s chest directly- Besides that he was…his destined mate- he pursed his lips as soon as he said that.
Madox could only close his eyes and stop breathing.
-So he didn’t lie to me,” his voice was choked. She laughed, “And here I was stupidly hoping that he was just playing a joke on me,” she ran her hand over her face.
-I don’t think he was a good person for him,” Aidan concluded, “He was overbearing, arrogant.
Madox raised an eyebrow.
-I don’t see much that’s different from me.
-You value the omegas. In your own way, but you value them. You’ve never treated me or him inferior because we’re omegas. But that alpha did. Julian seemed to be very afraid of him.
Madox clenched his fingers until his knuckles turned white.
-That doesn’t matter anymore- he dropped his head forward as if exhausted- You know better than anyone. Once you find your destined one everything else doesn’t matter. As soon as Julian is with him I’ll just be another memory in his mind.
His chest hurt like hell. He turned and bandaged Julian’s wound properly. At least it wasn’t deep and wouldn’t need stitches. He didn’t want to think about the fact that he had cut himself, because he knew he would be more upset than he already was at that moment.
-He tried to kill himself, that doesn’t tell you anything,” Aidan frowned.
Madox growled. Dominic wanted to get in the way to cover for him, but he wouldn’t let him.
-I can’t read minds. Besides, you weren’t here when he told me all that stuff. He doesn’t even want us to see each other after we get back. He came with me knowing that his partner is across the sea. His memories are coming back. What the hell do you want me to do? You don’t think I don’t feel guilty. I’m sure he got depressed because I attacked him with my pheromones and destabilized him- Madox lost his breath almost screaming- Shit, my head is going to explode- he scrubbed his hair hard.
He clicked his tongue and walked past them just grabbing his wallet and passport from on top of the nightstand.
-I’m leaving on the first plane that gets to the airport.
-You’re leaving like that? Dominic couldn’t believe it.
-Yes, I’m leaving. He might want to drown when he opens his eyes and sees me- -Madox, don’t get ahead of yourself.
-Madox, don’t get ahead of yourself. Maybe that’s not why- the alpha grabbed him by the arm, but he let go.
-Okay, inform me on the cell phone,” he left the room with a slam of the door.
Aidan let all the air out of his lungs.
-Are you all right?” Dominic asked him.
-No, I’m not okay,” he shook his head, “What the hell just happened?
-Good question my omega. I’ve never seen Madox so out of it. You stay and watch Julian for the time being. I’ll pick everything up and I’ll think of a good reprimand for when I see him again. The bastard left me all his luggage,” he tried to lighten the heavy atmosphere in the room.
Aidan nodded and kissed her cheek before he left. He walked over to the bed and sat down taking Julian’s hand.
-What trouble are you in now, my friend?” she sighed.
A short time later the three of them arrived at the airport. Julian had woken up not long before and with quite a bit of pain in his wrist not remembering what he had done. But the memories of the alpha before he left after their argument still echoed in his mind.
Despite the insistence of his two companions he only said what was necessary. He had explained nothing. He had simply reaffirmed what Madox had told them. Between them it was all over. It was for the best and each would go his own way.
-I’m tired of being one more,” were the words that concluded the conversation, and Dominic and Aidan did not insist any more, even though their words did not sound sincere at all.
They did not find Madox at the airport. He had chartered a private jet and had returned as soon as possible. The group didn’t know if it was for the best or for the worst.
And that was how the Hawaii vacation ended. An ending that none of the four of them expected.
Dominic opened the door to his apartment after arriving in the evening, and dropped off the suitcases one by one. Aidan helped him and then plopped down on the huge couch in the living room. The alpha came over to his side leaning his slender legs on the alpha’s hard thighs.
-Still worried,” he stroked his head.
Aidan nodded.
-There’s something wrong with all this. I remember well how Julian got the day we teamed up with that guy. He was no good, Dominic.
He grabbed one of her hands and kissed her knuckles.
-First you need to calm down. I know he’s your friend but you can’t rush it no matter how much you care. I’ll call Leo to find out the situation. For the time being we’ll be spectators. If what he said was true and that person is his destined partner there’s not much we can do,” she kissed his temple.
Aidan nodded his head, still doubtful but his alpha was right. He let out a frustrated sigh. This was a touchy subject, but there wasn’t much he could do about it at the moment.
-Well, since we’re here and I know you’re tired, let me give you a relaxing soak in the jacuzzi, how about it?” she grabbed his chin and left a soft k**s on his lips.
Aidan smiled at her.
-With the salts that smell like lavender.
-I bought several packets because I already realized it’s your favorite,” he kissed him again and carried him in his arms towards the bathroom.
Madox was lying on his back on the bed. How many days had passed since he returned from that disastrous trip. He didn’t know. Two, three, a week? What did it matter. Time lately was running through his life like water in a river.
He stared at the ceiling unfamiliar to him. The body beside him stirred getting dressed. The slim, pretty beta looked really annoyed.
-Seriously Madox, what’s wrong with you? You’re usually such a stud. You stuff me and then back off,” she shrieked word after word drilling into his ear.
-Shut the f**k up,” he let her go, sitting down on the bed and finishing putting on the clothes he hadn’t completely removed, “I’m not in the mood,” she said.
-She grimaced, but closed her lips when she noticed the menacing and dangerous gleam in his eyes. She swallowed dryly and backed away trembling like a frightened fawn.
Madox knew he had terrified her. At another time and in other moods he would have comforted her, now he didn’t even feel like being there anymore. She simply got out of bed and walked to the apartment door and closed it.
The icy night breeze crashed into her face and she smiled bitterly.
-Julian, what the f**k did you do to me?” he gritted his teeth.
As soon as he had gotten off the plane he had looked for someone who could get the omega out of his mind and had gone to the house of the first one who had opened her legs, and then to another with the same result. As soon as he had touched them he had realized that it was not the same skin texture, not the same curly hair, not as small and fragile, not as loving, not as shy. It didn’t even smell like him. They did not awaken the lividness inside her.
He punched the wall beside him, hurting his fist. He barely felt any pain. He was frustrated as never before in his life. He was one of those who thought that everything would fall in front of him just because, just because he was an alpha, as he always was. But he behaved like a child when his favorite treat was taken away.
He made fun of himself. He looked miserable. Loving someone was stupid.
Without realizing how far he had walked he looked up. He cursed his own body. He knew better than he did what he wanted.
Ahead of him stood the building where Julian lived.
