This was quite the unexpected twist.

Connor asked again, "How did you get hold of that video?"

"A friend passed it on to me. I had asked this friend to dig into Ricky before. During their investigation, they set up some tiny cameras in his house. The footage was live-streamed, so even after Lisa torched Ricky's house and wiped out all the evidence, the recordings were safely stored."

Connor felt like the pieces of the puzzle in his mind were slowly falling into place.

But when Chloe mentioned that she had turned to a friend, rather than him, to look into Ricky, it left him with a knot of unease he couldn't quite articulate.

He finally asked, "Chloe, why didn't you come to me about all this?"

She hadn't even given him a heads-up.

Chloe was a bit caught off guard, "You were swamped, I didn't want to bother you."

Chloe knew just how much Connor had on his plate.

Running the massive Sartori Corporation, not only shouldering half of it but also starting his own venture, CNR.

And if that wasn't enough, he was constantly fending off Claire's nasty schemes.

He was brilliant, sure, but he wasn't invincible.

Chloe saw how worn out he was every single day.

Naturally, she didn't want to load him with things she could handle herself.

"So, you opted to lean on your friend, and in your eyes, they're more reliable than me, huh?"

Connor's voice was tinged with a playful pout.

Chloe was taken aback.

She hadn't expected Connor to read it that way.

"I just didn't want to add to your stress, is it wrong that I didn't want to burden you?"

The car had just rolled off the freeway.

A red light blinked ahead.

Connor hit the brakes hard, bringing the car to a stop.

He turned to face Chloe, his expression a mix of bafflement and a touch of innocence.

His voice carried a hint of frustration and a bit of a sulky undertone.

"Chloe, let's get one thing straight, I'm your husband now, not some Trophy Boy."

Connor was riled up.

But Chloe was at a loss.

She felt the issues between her and Lisa were hers to handle.

If she could manage them, she wouldn't trouble anyone else.

Asking a friend for help seemed entirely reasonable.

She didn't think she needed to spell it all out for Connor, just to avoid unnecessary worry.

"Connor, I really don't get why you're so upset."

Chloe had orchestrated tonight's events meticulously, and she was pretty wiped out herself.

"Tell me why you're so worked up. Getting jealous because I asked a friend for help instead of you is a bit

over the top, don't you think a bit

Chloe wasn't completely oblivious to Connor's jealous streak.

He'd been jealous of Pax in the past, and even Winston.

But getting bent out of shape over a friend? That seemed a bit much.

Especially over reaching out to him for help instead.

Chloe couldn't help but find it a bit childish.

"I'm not mad, and I'm not jealous either."

Connor didn't want to pick a fight with Chloe, knowing how much she had poured into tonight's setup. She must be exhausted.

Chloe let out a small sigh of relief

but still felt the need to clarify, "My friend is like family to me, and as I've mentioned before, he's gay. To me, he's just like Cassie, a close girlfriend, nothing more."

Connor thought of those fierce, challenging eyes.

He let out a soft scoff, "That's just your take on it."
