Captivation: Want Nothing But You -
Chapter 1615
“If a person’s heart is empty, no matter how much effort others put in, it’s hard to fill that void.
Rachel, you had a space in your heart reserved for Victor, and with his passing, that space remained empty.
I tried to fit into that space, but it was too difficult.
I lacked the confidence to fill it.
I found myself jealous of him.
I’m envious of someone who’s no longer alive.”
“Roger.
“I’m alright.” As if fearing to hear something he didn’t want from
Rachel, he cut her off.
“I surrender.
I give up entirely.
I didn’t win your heart when we first met.
And we’re fated to be apart.”
Roger rose from his seat after finishing his sentence, took a deep breath, and declared, “I’ll speak to my family in the next couple of days regarding our engagement…”
Summoning his courage, Roger declared, “Let’s call it off.”
“Alright.” She stood up as well, facing him, and nodded once more.
“I apologize, Rachel.”
“Don’t say that.
It’s me who should really be sorry.” Rachel’s lips formed a tight line.
As she finished speaking, she noticed Roger extending his arms to her.
“Let’s hug for the one last time.”
However, Rachel didn’t move forward to embrace him.
Instead, she took a step back and quietly declined his offer.
Seeing this, Roger slowly lowered his arm and said, “Then… I’ll be leaving now.
Please extend my gratitude to Lila on my behalf.
I’d like to try her cooking next time if I have the opportunity.”
He turned around and was about to leave.
Just as he was about to exit the living room, Rachel called out,
“Roger… I have a story.
Would you like to hear it?”
Roger stopped and looked deep into her eyes.
Five minutes later, Rachel took him to the study on the second floor.
It wasn’t the first time Roger had entered her study.
But for some reason, he felt strange when he stepped inside.
The furnishings were still the same.
The room hadn’t changed one bit.
He stared at Rachel’s back as she walked to a row of bookshelves.
Roger recalled how she looked when she was a high school student.
She would stand in the playground in school uniform and a high ponytail.
He always compared the young, innocent girl to the beautiful woman she had become now.
However, the two were strikingly different.
In his memory, Rachel was a timid girl who always wore a ponytail.
She always stood in the corner of the playground.
While others ran around or played basketball during PE classes, Rachel would stand in silence as if she didn’t belong with them.
