Alpha's Little Vampire Mate -
Chapter 96
Marcus's POV:
"Goodorning beautiful, rise and shine!"
She stretched against my front, a little smile sneaking it's way to her lips. Her eyes parted for just a bit and she stared at me through half lidded eyes. "Hey baby?" she raised her face and I brought my lips down to meet hers.
We sucked on each other's lips for a while, before I decided to break it. "I see someone slept well," I teased, nibbling on her bottom lip.
She gave a hearty laugh, her eyes rolling away before returning to me. "It would have been much better of I had you in bed with me," she said nonchalantly, before her face scrunched up in realization. Shit!
"I woke up twice in the middle of the night and you were nowhere to be found," she paused, her eyes searching my face like the truth was hidden somewhere in there. "Where were you?" She asked.
I tensed up, my back straightening as I moved away from her and sat up in bed. She sat up with me, her gaze more heated than how it had been a few seconds ago. I sighed, rubbing palm down my face. "I was out dealing with politics," I finally managed to say. It was not like I was completely telling a lie, what had gotten me busy could also be described as politics, right? Right?
"And what kind of politics is that, that keeps you out all night and until the very next day?"
"Umm..." Nothing came up! No excuse, no reasonable words, nothing! My mind was just blank. With the way she was starting to glare at me, I knew I had to think of something fast before her mind started to conjure up funny things. "It was... emm..."
"Fine," she snapped, lying back down on the bed and turning her back to me. "Do not tell me whatever it is, go on hiding it and I, will also started hiding stuff from you!"
I flinched at her harsh tone, thinking how I had manage to change the mood from a romantic one, to the part where we start fighting with each other. I looked at her back, seeing how stiff she look and as much as I wanted to hold her to me, I thought that was going to be a very bad idea at the moment. I slowly laid down in my own side of the bed, lying on my side with my front to her back. I kept my distance, watching carefully should in case she changed her mind and decided to choke me in my sleep.
Last night: I had been at the hospital, at Lima's side as he fought for his life. After the hearing at the court yesterday, I had left Chloe with some of the women as she wanted to talk to them and get to know them better. I did not feel too enthusiastic about the whole issues, it was kind of hard to entrust your wife to a bunch of hot blooded she-wolves who had just found out that she was a half vampire. I knew Chloe was more than capable of taking care of herself, but it still worried me that she would have to bear through all the stink eyes and deadly glares and little gossips around her.
I had taken Titus and Mark with me, and we had gone to a meeting for royalties at a neighboring pack land. I had made new relationships and also had a few deals with those I was already acquainted to.
I had searched around all night, but did not get the opportunity to meet the one person I had been here for; Alpha Edwin. It had been over many years, but he still was not ready to forgive me for what happened with his wife, if only he could let me explain things to him, he would know that I never intended for any of what happened to happen, his wife was also much at fault as I was.
By the end of the meeting, there was still no Edwin and I could not help but wonder why he had been absent. That was unlike him, if anything, he liked to come to places like this to always prove that he was just as powerful as any other Alpha. In the last royalty get together two years ago, he had bet to fight another Alpha and was beaten down 'blue-black' to his own embarrassment. He had been so mad and had also tried to pick a fight with me, in which of you guessed properly; I gave him a good beating.
As much as I still detested him, I knew it was time to put aside my pride and reconcile with him. Now that Chloe was in the picture, I had to keep her out of harm's way and that was to start reducing the number of my numerous enemies! I sent Mark and Titus to get me Edwin's Beta, while I waited outside. I took the glass of wine to my lips, sipping a liquid quantity into my mouth. My eyes were closed, a smile forming on my lips as I thought about my beautiful wife. Just then, I got the whiff of a sweet feminine scent and my eyes fluttered open, when I felt a presence beside me. I turned my head to look at her, and she was looking ahead, watching whatever I had no idea of. "Alpha Samantha," I greeted, looking away and ahead.
Samantha of the Avil pack. Across centuries, she was the only female Alpha I had come to know. She had lost her parents at a very young age, just like Chloe and with no one to lead the pack, she had to take on the responsibility and she did make it look so easy! She was quite popular amongst the men, her grace and charm, coupled with her bewitching looks, will make any man fall at her feet.
"Wow!" She whispered, stealing a glance at me. "You still remember my name, that is such a surprise!"
I smirked to myself, not missing the way she said every word with spitefulness laces in her tone of voice. The last time we had been together, I had left her naked and alone in the woods, not bothering to wait for her to wake before I left. I could tell that she was still pissed, even though it had over half a century ago.
"Of course," I replied, my voice coming off deeper than I would have wanted it to. "I could never forget, who could?" I teased.
She snorted, like she could not believe me. "When you try to flatter a lady next time, make sure you sound like you really mean whatever you are telling her," she spat. Her shoulders raised and dropped, as she took a breath. "You came without your wife, I heard she was a 'lookable' sight for the eyes of are you ashamed of her?"
I rolled my eyes behind my glass, as I took another sip. I did not like the way she spoke about Chloe and I was not about to discuss my wife with some past fling, so I changed the subject. "How have you been, Sam?" I asked.
She looked a bit taken aback, but then adjusted, taking a sip out of her own cup before replying to me. "I have okay, I guess?" She said like she was also confused with herself. "Nothing has changed much from when you left, I'm just here... available!" She added in an awkward tone.
She had really not changed one bit, still throwing herself at me like she always did. Sometimes, apart from my power and good looks, I wondered what got women so enamoured by me. For the record, I was a heartless heartbreaker and if I were to be honest with myself; I never really cared untill I met my mate, my wife, my Chloe...
"Have you not found your mate yet?"
She tensed up, taking a big gulp of her drink. "I have," she replied, taking another sip of her drink. "He was already married by that time, and we both like other people," she paused, hesitating for a moment. "We rejected each other," she said finally.
I sighed, feeling a little pity for her. I honestly did not know what to say to console her, so I kept quiet. We remained in silence for about a minute or two, then she spoke up again.
"I have a party I'm throwing to welcome a new royal member of my pack, and you are invited," she said.
"And when is this party you speak of?"
"On the April eleventh, next week Wednesday," she replied. "We could have a few drinks together and have some fun for old times sake," she said suggestively.
I knew what she was hinting at, and I was not about to lead her on. "We will be there," I said, meeting her hopeful eyes. "I and the wife I mean, I would remember to ask her if she would like to attend the party or not."
She did not look pleased, not in the least. Her thin lips pressed tightly together, forming a straight line. "And I was think I could use you for some company," she sighed dramatically. "Well then, I think I would need to. look for someone else then!"
I nodded at her. "Good for you," I muttered, giving her aside glance before returning my eyes. "I hope some lucky man would find you someday!"
She gave me a tight smile, nodding animatedly. "I see you really are whipped, aren't you?" She asked, her voice dripping off sheer jealousy. "What is it about that wife of yours? I thought we had something..."
I groaned audible, not being away to hide my frustration. By now, I had gotten tired of hearing many women repeat those words over and over again. What was I really thinking, sleeping about the way I did? Now, I had to clear up every wrong impression o had made on them. For me, it had always been about the fun, never had I thought more about them than mere beautiful females, that I had a good time with.
"I had nothing going on with you Sam, you also knew I was courting Maggie at that time. All we had was a little fun her and there, then that was it!" I paused, when I saw the hurt look that surfaced on her features and my next words died down in my throat. Instead of telling her off like I wanted to, I said: "you should move on, I am not worth you stressing yourself over me!"
I turned and walked away from her, before she could say anything else. I went to look for my assistants and they said they had had the talk with Beta Alfred, and he was going to convey the message to Edwin. I asked that we left immediately, it had already gotten late and Chloe might have started to worry.
We took to the woods, shifting into our respective wolves and raced all the way back to Blackwood pack town. I had just shifted back into my human form, dismissing Mark and Titus to retire for the day. Mark left for his house, while Titus and I strode over to the hospital that was situated in the middle of the town.
I could hardly meet up with Titus's footsteps, as he seemed too in a hurry to get to the place. "Slow down, will you?" I snapped, making him decrease his speed almost immediately.
He looked impatient, as he walked tensely beside me. "Can we at least hurry, I would like to see how Chloe is doing now!"
I groaned, hating the fact that that snake shared a name with my wife. No matter how she pretended not to be the bad guy, there was just something off about her. I hoped Titus would be careful enough as for to prisoner to her spells, I did not want another repeat of what happened with Lima!
