Alpha's Little Vampire Mate
32.Chloe's jealousy

Chloe's POV:

The party was wrapping up, as the hall started to empty out slowly. I'd been introduced to everyone, made little discussion with some of the ladies who seemed willing enough, and even befriended a few nice ones.

Just as promised, Lily never left my side. She was by me the whole time, following, watching closely and reporting back to me about any suspicious acts she caught on.

I had some fun, loving the feeling of how effortlessly, I commanded respect amongst these women, some who were centuries older than I was. I made it clear to them, keeping my head held high the whole time, showing them who the queen was, and who were her subjects!

By the time the last of the guests had left, I dropped down into a nearby seat, ridding my feet of the five inches heels.

Lily came and plopped into a chair beside me. "Today was fun! What do you think?"

I nodded, then groaned when a certain someone crossed my mind. "How dare she..." I hissed in between clenched teeth.

Lily regarded me carefully. "How dare who?"

"That 'Cara' girl! How dare she walk out on me?!" I turned to stare at Lily disbelievingly, starting to wonder whatever gave her such audacity. "Lily?" I called again. "Yes?"

"Just how close were her and Marcus?"

Lily looked away from me, finding the glass of wine in her hand, far more interesting than what I'd just asked. Her silence was beginning to get to me, so I yelled. "Lily!"

"What?!"

"Answer the question!"

She rolled her eyes, then heaved a sigh. "None of that matters now, you have the love of your life all to yourself and you also are Luna, right?"

I gave her a straight look. "Lilian... just... answer the fucking question," I gritted out. At this point, my stomach was churning with jealousy and I didn't know if I really wanted to know about Cara's relationship with my mate any longer. She took a long sip from her glass, then turned to me with a playful look in her eyes. "She was his latest before he heard about you. Let's just say... she would have been Luna if you never came along."

My wolf started growling. I hated the fact that Marcus had to sleep around with so many women, and then snatched me up when I just came of age. It wasn't fair on me that my mate was an ancient who couldn't keep his manhood in his trousers, not fair at all!.

"You see this thing you're doing right here?" Lily started, waving a finger in my face. "That's the reason I didn't want to tell you. Nobody can predict you werewolves and your senseless jealousy!"

"This isn't senseless," I snapped at her. "This is unfair! How could he do that to me? What if he'd gone ahead and mated Cara?"

"But he didn't," Lily muttered under the breath, the frustration not going unnoticed.

"I know he didn't, but what if he did?!"

She sighed exasperatedly. "He still didn't alright? Put yourself together, for your stupid attitude is beginning to really get to me," Lily snapped.

I glared missiles at her, but she flipped me off with the wave of her hand. She brought her glass to her lips again, and finished the drink in one go. She placed the glass down on a table, asking me to do the same.

I poured the last of my drink into my mouth, and dropped the glass on the table. Lily stretched out her hand, which I took and she began pulling me out of the hall.

"Where are we going?"

She passed me a dazzling smile. "For a walk in the woods, I need you to blow off some steam..."

She led me outside the hall, both of us were barefoot, as she led me towards the forests.

I was reluctant at first, but then; a brilliant idea crossed my mind. I grinned, showing more teeth than necessary. I tugged at Lily's hand and she slowed to a halt, turning to look at me. "Chloe?"

"Yes," I dragged out, the mischievous grin still plastered on my lips.

"Why are you smiling like that?" Lily asked, eying me suspiciously.

My smile did not waver, it remained just in place! "Why?" I asked. "Can't I smile at my best friend? Has smiling suddenly become a crime?"

She gave me a skeptical look. "Not... that, it's just... nevermind," she shrugged, pulling us forward as we marched into the woods.

We had gone a little deeper, where I believed no one would be watching. I let go of her hand. "I wanna show you something," I whispered.

She looked at me expectantly, maybe hoping I was going to dip my hand into my dress and bring out something but she was in for a surprise.

Rather, I pulled down the zipper of my dress, shrugging out of it. I urge her to do same, which she obliged without any complaints.

I took a few steps away from her, raised my hands into the air and tried to concentrate my mind on my ability. "I want you to shift into a beautiful brown wolf..." I flexed my hand, and the sound of Lily's scream, accompanied the sound of bones breaking.

"What the fuck!" She yelled, her face contorting into one of anguish. "Chloe stop, what are you doing to me?!"

"This is gonna hurt, I'm sorry." I had finished bending her bones, and she'd fallen to the ground now bent on all fours. "Transform!"

I watched in awe of what I was capable of doing, as Lily transformed into a beautiful brown wolf. Her wolf looked down at herself, then back at me.

"What have you done with me?!"

I heard her voice in my head and gave her a wolfish grin. "Let's go for a run," I replied, leaping in the air and shifting into my white sparkly wolf. I broke into a run, turning around to see if Lily was following. She ran after me, following faster than I even imagined she would be able to keep up.

I led her to my secret place and once we got there, I shifted back to human form. Lily's wolf slowed down, coming to sit right beside me. I lowered onto the floor too, ruffling Lily's wolf fur with my fingers. "Aren't you a cute little wolf?" She purred adorably and I couldn't help but laugh. She got up again, bouncing around and doing some sort of funny wolf dance. "I see you really are happy, aren't you?" Her wolf bobbed her head.

"Too sad you have to shift back, because we really need to talk." I commanded her to shift back, and her body obeyed, transforming back into her human form.

"Woah!" Lily said excitedly. "I can't believe you just did that!"

"Yep, I did," I said in between chuckles. She grinned, shaking her head at me. "It is one of the abilities I gained from the mating process."

"Do I get to keep my wolf? Please say yes!"

I looked at her pitifully. "Sorry, I can't give you that." her face started to fall, so I immediately added. "But I can shift you whenever you want!" That seemed to work.

"What other amazing things can you do? What else did you get?!" She shifted closer to me, wide inquisitive eyes staring up at me with expectation. "Well..." I paused, intentionally making her wait. "I-"

"Out with it already," Lily groaned, giving me a light push on the head. "Can't you see that right now I'm dying with curiosity?"

I decided not to delay any further. Lily's quick tempered nature wasn't what anyone in their right mind would desire to put up with. "I can also read Marcus's thoughts."

Lily clapped, bouncing against the floor excitedly. "Really? That's a big win for you, at least you'd know if he's having any intentions of cheating on you!"

"Yeah," I sighed. My mood instantly dropped, as I remembered what had taken place earlier. "I think Marcus is hiding something from me..."

Lily's excitement gave way for concern. "How so? You can just read him out, to find out what he could be hiding, can't you?"

I gave her a straight look. "Of course I can, but that's the problem!"

"What do you mean by that?"

"Marcus mask's his thoughts whenever we're together. I might start reading his thoughts and just when I'm about to pick up on something, his thoughts suddenly go blank and all I see is an endless black hole in his head."

Lily narrowed her eyes. "Hmm... that truly sounds suspicious, you know?" she asked suggestively.

"I know right?!" I replied, taking my face in between my palms. "It's like; once he senses me trying to get a read of him, he quickly keeps his mind blank. Why would he do that, if he isn't trying to hide something from me?"

Lily nodded, gesturing for me to come closer. I did and she bent to whisper in my ear. My eyes widened, my body going stiff as I picked on another sound. My mind zeroed in on it and I could no longer hear a word of whatever Lily was trying to tell me.

"Are you even listening to me?!"

I shook my head at her, gesturing for her to keep quiet as I placed a finger over my lips. "Do you hear that?"

She gave me a confused look. "Uh... hear what?" she whispered back.

"Shift!" I stretched my hands towards her, and in her place sat a brown wolf. "Now listen..."

Soon I heard her voice in my head: "I hear it loud and clear, there's something out there..."

I heard the sound again and soon, it came to a halt. No matter how I tried to perceive it, I couldn't get the whiff of any scent. The feeling was familiar, but when I tried to remember a similar situation, my mind popped up blank.

I started to have a creepy feeling so I quickly levitated into the air, shifting Lily into a little bird. She grabbed on quickly, flying into the air and I led us into the trees.

"Stay as quiet as you can, do not make even a sound," I warned.

She connected me back: "what exactly is going on Lily?"

I ignored her, my eyes focusing on the area below us. I kept waiting for a sign, waiting to see if the strange sound would come again, but nothing.

I'd started to get bored and just as I was about to dismiss the thought; it happened so suddenly that I almost would have missed it. Right below me, appeared a creature that looked to be a man with it's back towards me. Before I could even as much as gasp, it vanished like it had never been there before.

Lily started trembling beside me. I couldn't fault her for her fears, she was human after all! Even I, who was a hybrid, had been shaken up by the incident.

Without further ado, I plucked Lily's bird from a tree branch and sped out of the forest, using the trees. I avoided the ground as much as I could, but I looked down from time to time, to make sure that we weren't being followed.

I breathed a sigh of relief when we finally got out. I slowed to a steady jog, looking around to make sure no one had seen me use my vampire speed. I was practically screaming out for Marcus, when I got to the house. I started up the stairs and towards our bedroom, but then I perceived a stronger scent coming from the direction of the office.

I ran towards the office and just when I was about to go in, Mark stopped me by the door. He looked panicked, like my presence had startled him. "Make way Mark, I have to speak with Marcus!"

He obstructed my path again, when I tried to move around him. "Where is Lilian?" he quickly asked, wiping off a drip of sweat from his forehead.

I shot him a glare. I gently placed the bir on the floor and commanded it. It transformed into a half naked Lily. Mark's mouth fell open, as he stared at her in amazement.

That happened to be the perfect distraction, because he didn't even notice when I slipped past him and got into the office. The only problem was; I hadn't been expecting the sight I walked into... Uh oh!
