Why deceive me??
55. Why Decieve Me

I felt the urge to go with her but kicked against it. She has a right to privacy too. The same way I wouldn't want her Intruding on my privacy is the same way she wouldn't want me doing the same to her. I respect hers a lot, even though she acts

like total nuts at times. I rested my head on the seat and waited for her.

Staying in the car was too boring. I decided to take a stroll around the hospital when I thought I saw someone who was walking like Katie, wearing the same dress she wore from the house, the same shoes. She was walking into a ward. But the thing is this person was having long black straight hair. I almost gasped as she entered the ward. I decided to follow her.

Ronnie walked into the restroom and removes her wig. She didn't find it important to change clothes since Damon was in the car where she'd left him. And besides, she had forgotten her change of clothes at home. Once she was done with the wig removal, she walked out.

She walked into her mum's ward and saw her lying on the bed, motionless. Her heart broke at the sight.

She went over to her and took a seat. "It's been a while mum," She began. "I'm sorry I couldn't come over lately to visit you. I've been having a hard time lately. I know I didn't tell you the truth about the nature of my job." She paused, sighed, then continued.

"You remember that girl, Katie? She was betrothed to this guy, Damon. She wanted to travel out of the country to pursue her modeling career so she paid me to act like her. I accepted the offer since we needed the money so bad and it was an outrageous sum." She wiped a tear off her face and smiled.

"Well, going to that house has been dramatic. I get to act like her but she was too rude for my liking so I improvised. She didn't tell me all the necessary things I needed to know about her. I met the guy, Damon and although he was rude at first, he has changed and I can't help but fall for him. I'm tired of this disguise because I'm in love with him. I don't know how I should start telling him about my identity. It's a mess. Mum, I wish you were with me."

"Can you believe I'm now Katie and not Ronnie over there? Sara came along to stress me and make my work difficult. I think she's in love with Damon and I want her out of the house. She has the backing of Damon's mother. It's so annoying, you know? I need someone to talk to, I'm a mess right now mum. I don't want to get kicked out of the house. If I do, the money Is going to stop, and even if Katie comes back, I don't know how to leave the house. I love Damon." "Mum, when are you gonna wake up, I don't want to be alone in this world pretending to be someone I'm not," She cried loudly.

She lay on the bedside and fell asleep.

Damon walks away from the ward toward the car and sat down waiting for Katie.

"Ronnie, is that her real name? Why did she lie to me?" He began, deep in thought.

"WHY DECEIVE ME? What will you lose if you told me?" He said, baffled.

"Does it mean she has been deceiving me all this while? What am I saying? I just heard what she said to her mother, she has been deceiving me since the first day she stepped foot into my mansion," He said.

"I was so foolish not to have noticed all those little hints she's been dropping all along the way," He banged his fists on the steering wheel.

Ronnie wakes up with her phone ringing and she picked it up.

"Hello," She said.

"Hey, Ronnie," Mrs. Philips said

"Hello ma'am," She said.

"Ronnie, how are you?" She said

"I'm doing good," She replied

"I just thought of calling you," Mrs. Philips said.

"Oh, thank you. Can I call you when I'm free?" She asked.

"No problem," Mrs. Philips said and hung up.

She looked at her phone and saw it was already 11:30, she gasped. "It's so late,"

She turned to her mum. "Mum, I'll be going now. It's been nice sharing my problems with you," She said and bent over to peck her mum. She headed for the door.

In less than ten minutes, she was on her way to where Damon parked his car. She saw his eyes closed and went into the car. She sat down and leaned over to tap Damon. "Hey, get up," She said.

Damon opened his eyes and stared at her.

Ronnie seemed confused and waved at his face.

"Why are you staring at me?" She asked. "Do I have something in my face?"

Damon shook his head. "No, are you done?"

"Yeah, sorry for keeping you here for long," She apologized.

"It's no problem," he said with his gaze not leaving hers.

"Damon, is there something wrong?" She asked again.

Damon shrugged. "If there's something wrong, you'll know all about it," he said and started the car.

Ronnie felt something was wrong but didn't know where to pinpoint it. She decided to give him time to clear his head. Maybe he was having work-related issues since she was always used to his changing attitude.

They drove in silence and Ronnie shifted uneasily in her seat.

Is it because I stayed too long inside?

She turned to him. "Damon, did I do something wrong?" She asked.

He kept mute.

She decided to try again.

"Was it because I stayed longer?" She asked again.

By now, Damon was becoming irritated.

"I already apologized. What else could be the problem.?" She asked.

When she realized he wasn't going to answer her questions, she kept mute. But like a robot, it was like someone taped on a button in her brain. She decided to try one last time. "Damon, why aren't you answering me?" She asked.

With that, he stopped the car and without looking at her, said.

"Get out of my car?" He ordered.

"Damon?" She asked, shocked.

"Out," He yelled.
