She approached Bella nervously, focusing intently on her hair.

Taking a deep breath, she carefully positioned the hairpin.

As she adjusted it, Stella deliberately tugged at Bella’s hair, causing a sharp pain.

Bella winced.

“I’m sorry, this is my first time doing this for someone.

Did that hurt?” Stella asked, her voice laden with apology as she stepped back.

She had exerted less force, but it still hurt Bella.

Bella, noticing her distress, quickly reassured her, “It’s okay, really.

Does it look alright?”

Looking hopeful, Bella sought Stella’s approval.

“It looks beautiful on you,” Stella confirmed with a nod.

Just then, Elizabeth, who had been scanning around idly after ordering the coffee, caught sight of Stella’s close proximity to Bella.

Her demeanor instantly changed as she marched over and demanded icily, “What’s going on here?”

Stella instinctively tightened her grip on the strands of long hair in her hand and stepped to the

side.

Bella held back a furious Elizabeth, smoothing her hair as_ she explained, “Stella was just helping me with my hairpin.

There’s no need for such a dramatic reaction.

Elizabeth, spotting the accessory on Bella’s head, furrowed her brow and inquired, “Where did that come from?”

“It’s from Stella,” Bella responded, a gleeful smile spreading across her face.

Elizabeth’s expression turned grave as she sensed that something was amiss.

Why had Stella sent her to get coffee? Was it merely to hand over a hairpin?

She scrutinized Stella’s face, searching for clues, yet nothing seemed amiss.

Stella remained silent and walked back to her seat, acting as though nothing unusual had occurred.

She glanced at Elizabeth’s empty hands and queried, “Weren’t you supposed to get coffee? Where is it?”

As she spoke, she discreetly slid Bella’s hair into her bag.

Elizabeth caught the motion from the corner of her eye, but they were too far apart for her to make out the details.

“The coffee’s not ready yet,” she replied curtly, her mind still on the hairpin Stella had given Bella.

She couldn’t help but scowl.

Stella turned her attention to Bella, asking, “Feeling any better?”

Bella nodded slightly.

“Much better than yesterday.

Elizabeth was still reeling from the recent events.
