Chapter 51

Gilbert's sudden call brought Xena to an abrupt halt. She turned to look back, and instinctively, the others followed her lead.

A sense of dread tightened in Wendy's chest. The shout from Gilbert felt like a harbinger of trouble.

What could unfold now?

Felix, however, remained unfazed. With no secrets to hide, he welcomed the opportunity for Gilbert to come to terms with the situation.

"Let's go inside and discuss this further," he said.

As Felix led Gilbert back into the dwelling, Xena's eyes flickered with disdain.

"Master healer? If a small doctor from the countryside could be labeled as such, then this title had lost all its value," she thought as she continued on her path, convinced that Gilbert was another victim of Felix's schemes. "People are truly amusing these days. Master healer-what a joke!" Jordan scoffed, echoing the sentiment that the title had become a mere shadow of its former self.

Xena would have apprehended Felix long ago if it weren't for the engagement. However, she had instructed Belle to investigate Felix's team instead.

Once they uncovered the truth, she would ensure that they were dealt with.

Inside the house, Gilbert still appeared shaken. Initially focused on Felix, he turned to find a large group gathered, all members of the Kinsley family. He suddenly realized how rude it was of him not to acknowledge their presence.

"Mr. Murphy, tell us. Who's the patient here?" Felix prompted, bringing Gilbert back to reality. His face was etched with anxiety and concern. (1 "It's my five-year-old son." Gilbert sighed, his voice heavy with worry. "I don't even know if he's truly sick."

This revelation came as no surprise. If the illness were treatable, Gilbert wouldn't be in such distress.

"Who told you that Lovefruit could cure your son's condition?" Felix inquired.

Gilbert offered a bitter smile.

"No one. My connections can only lead me to doctors who are just as stumped as I am. I know that the master healers often look for these rare herbs.

"By chance, I came across Lovefruit and bought it at a high price, in hopes of gathering enough herbs for when a true master healer appears to heal my son. But who would have thought..."

He felt as if fate was playing a cruel trick on him. If only Wendy had mentioned earlier that the master healer who cured Bernard needed the Lovefruit, he would have relented much sooner.

"Let's discuss your son's condition in detail, then we can head to your home," Felix suggested.

"So soon?" Gilbert felt a wave of gratitude wash over him. At least Felix seemed approachable, without any airs about him.

"It's quite strange. My wife and I took our son on a trip six months ago. When we returned, he began waking up every night at 1:00 am, making this eerie sound that lasted about five minutes before returning to normal. 1/2

"And after that, he just couldn't fall back asleep," Gilbert explained, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.

"While it's not life-threatening, the lack of sleep over the past six months has caused him to lose over 20 pounds. It also led to malnutrition. The doctor warned that if this continues, things will only worsen." From Gilbert's description, it was hard to pinpoint the illness.

Typical illnesses would manifest physical changes, yet aside from waking at 1:00 am and making the noise, Gilbert's son showed no other symptoms.

"Let's go to your home and see your son's condition for ourselves," Felix decided.

Noticing Gilbert's embarrassment, he continued, "Of course, treating the sick is our priority. Besides, with me here, do you think the Kinsleys would hold it against us for leaving early?" Today's Bonus Offer
