The Mysterious Luna
Chapter 59

Heather POV

My father was livid, when Alpha Colton refused to take me as his chosen mate. Being an only child, I’m very much daddies little princess and whatever I want I get. He swore after that day, that he would seek revenge. He couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that someone dared to reject me. Honestly, I can’t believe I got rejected either. I’m way better looking than that w***e, Jessica.

What my father and I don’t see eye to eye on, is how to seek revenge. He wants to kill Alpha Colton for embarrassing me, but I still want the man. Probably even more, now that I can’t have him. He’s become my dirty little obsession.

I was angry with my father, when I heard that he challenged Alpha Colton to a fight. I even heard rumours that my father drugged him to secure the win. I don’t want Alpha Colton dead, I want his stupid girlfriend, Jessica, to die. I guess I’ll just have to do that myself.

My father even made a deal with Alpha Marco, of the Fire Sky Pack, to help destroy Alpha Colton. He did all this behind my back, knowing I wouldn’t agree with it. I guess he offered Alpha Marco, the Cold Stone Pack territory, once Alpha Colton was eliminated. It was an offer that he couldn’t refuse.

What my father had not been expecting, was for that stupid b***h, Jessica, to be a witch and have all kinds of special abilities. I guess she brought backup to the fight and gave Alpha Colton’s men the upper hand.

My father and some of his men made it back, but we still lost a lot in that fight. I wasn’t happy with my father for going behind my back, but I was happy to hear that Alpha Colton wasn’t dead. At least not before Jessica teleported him out of there.

I hope he’s still alive, I have plans for us. Don’t get me wrong, I want him to suffer for what he did to me, but not die. Ideally, I could kill his little w***e in front of him and that should be a pretty good punishment. Then, maybe I’ll keep him as a toy.

No one treats me the way he did and gets away with it. I’m not the kind of woman you just throw away, I’ll teach him that, soon enough.

Jessica POV

It was late in the day, the doctor had come in to check on Colton and reported that his healing was starting to pickup speed, which was amazing news. I know he’s a fighter, there’s no doubt in my mind that he will pull through this.

The doctor also reported, that Josh was now stable and slowly making his own recovery. As much as I wanted to go and see Sam, I couldn’t bring myself to leave Colton’s side. I know she’s probably in the same boat and would understand.

I was brought out of my thoughts by a knock at the door.

“Come in” I announced.

The door opened and a man that I didn’t recognize, walked in.

He looked to be around 40, with brown hair. He was tall and muscular. I could feel a strong and powerful aura coming from him and I knew that he was an Alpha. He was looking at me, like he had just seen a ghost, it was odd. He didn’t say anything right away, but eventually snapped out of whatever daze he was in and spoke.

“Luna, I’m Alpha Peter, it’s nice to finally meet you.” He said, with a friendly smile.

“Yes, it’s very nice to meet you, Alpha. I wanted to thank you personally for all your help. We would not of survived this battle, if it wasn’t for you and your men.” I replied truthfully.

“It was my pleasure. Alpha Colton has always been there for my pack and I, so it wasn’t even a question, when you asked for help. How is he doing, by the way?” Alpha Peter asked, while looking at Colton who was still lying unconscious on the hospital bed.

“His healing has picked up, so that’s positive. Hopefully he wakes up soon.” I replied, while also looking over at Colton.

“That’s good to hear.” He said, as he turned his focus towards me, once again.

“Luna, I have to admit, there’s another reason why I came here today, in person. I found my second chance mate early today.” He started to explain and paused for a second. He looked both hopeful and concerned. He didn’t seem done speaking, so I waited for him to continue.

“She was in the middle of the battle field. We spotted each other and when I started to approach her, she literally disappeared into thin air. I’m hoping you can help me identify her.” He said, with a hopeful tone and a curious look on his face.

My eyes flew wide in shock, when I processed his words. The only person that could of disappeared into thin air, was my mother. Is Alpha Peter her second chance mate? I was so lost in my own thoughts, that I didn’t reply right away.

“Based on your reaction, I’m going to guess that you do know who my mate is and if I’m not mistaken, you’re probably related to her, given how similar you two look.” He continued, with the same curious look. What puzzled me, was why didn’t she tell me earlier about finding her second chance mate, when she first arrived?

“My mother, Bethany, is a witch. We used teleportation to get all of our warriors to the battle field. She’s the only person that I can think of, that could of disappeared right in front of you. Did she recognize you as her mate?” I asked with a curious frown.

“I believe so. When our eyes met, she looked both surprised and concerned. She didn’t give me a chance to speak, before she vanished.” He replied and I could hear the pain in his voice.

“My father, her first mate, was killed six months ago. If you are her second chance mate, it was likely overwhelming for her and that’s probably why she didn’t stick around to speak with you. She’s still grieving the loss of her first love. You’ll have to be patience with her, Alpha.” I replied honestly and could see the pain in his eyes.

“I’m sorry about your father. My first mate was also killed. I don’t think I’ll ever stop grieving for her, so I completely understand how she feels. I promise that I won’t put any pressure on her.” He said and I could hear the sincerity in his words.

“Thank you. She went to rest a few hours ago, but I’m sure she will be back shortly to check on me and Colton. If you want to stick around, you could maybe try to speak with her again.” I suggested and I saw the glint of hope in his eyes.

“That would be great, thank you.” He replied, with a genuine smile, before taking a seat in a chair against the wall.

A half an hour later, there was a knock at the door, before it quickly opened. I turned my attention towards it, to see my mother walking in holding a brown paper bag.

“I brought you some food, since I know you probably haven’t eaten any…” She started, but froze when she saw Alpha Peter sitting down. The bag fell from her hand and her eyes widened. That was all the confirmation I needed, to know Alpha Peter wasn’t lying, they are second chance mates.

“Bethany, I’m Alpha Peter, but please call me Peter.” He greeted, while standing from his chair and extending his hand.

My mother’s mouth opened and closed several times, like a fish out of water. I could see so many emotions swirling in her eyes, confusion, pain, excitement and desire. I can only imagine how overwhelming she must feel. After a few minutes of her being frozen in shock, I saw her shake her head slightly and close her eyes, before re-opening them.

“Sorry, you can call me Beth.” She said softly, while shaking his hand. As soon as they touched, they both froze and looked at their hands. It was clear they felt the static sensation of the mate bond.

“Beth, it’s wonderful to meet you. I must say, you are beautiful.” Alpha Peter replied, with a beaming smile. My mother blushed at his words.

“Thank you.” My mother replied, sounding almost shy. It caught me a little off guard, my mother is anything but shy. I guess the mate bond can bring out a whole new side of a person.

“Could I interest you in a coffee?” Alpha Peter asked, looking hopeful.

My mother looked at me before responding. I could see the hesitation in her eyes, but she was also looking for my approval. I winked and nodded my head, silently letting her know that she should go and at least get to know him. Alpha Peter never took his eyes of my mother and I could see the adoration within them.

“Sure, I would love a coffee.” She replied, with a small smile.

“Great, shall we?” Alpha Peter said, extending his arm for my mother to take. She hesitated slightly, but still hooked her arm with his. She glanced over at me one more time, before leaving the room with him. She looked both excited and nervous. I guess it’s been a while since the last time she went on a first date. I can only imagine how weird that must feel.

I couldn’t help but smile, they are actually a really good match. Alpha Peter is a good man and he will treat her properly, there’s no doubt about that. My mother deserves to be happy and I know my father would want her to move on. I’m excited for them.

Not long after they left, I heard another knock at the door. I looked towards it, remembering that when they left, it was still open. Sam stood there, with a small smile.

“Hey girl, how are you holding up?” She asked, as she walked towards me.

“I’ve seen better days, but hanging in there, you?” I replied, while giving her a tight hug. She sighed, before answering.

“Same. I’m going to kick his a*s when he wakes up, for causing me so much stress.” She jokes and I chuckled lightly. I knew she was only half joking, she probably will give him a hard time.

“Sorry that I didn’t come and see you, I just can’t seem to leave Colton’s side.” I said, with an apologetic smile.

“I know, I’m the same, the only reason I’m here now, is because the doctor kicked me out. He was running some tests on Josh and I kept growling at him. He got annoyed with me and made me leave.” She said with a pout, sounding irritated.

“Well, on a more positive note, my mom found her second chance mate, it’s Alpha Peter.” I told her, knowing the news would take her mind off her mate for a short while at least.

“No way! That’s amazing, so he’s gonna be like your new step dad?” Sam asked cheerfully. Honestly I hadn’t even thought about that. I guess if she does accept him, he will become part of my family.

“Ya, I guess so. He’s actually really nice and I think they’re perfect for each other.” I told Sam.

“We’ll see about that. He has to pass the test first.” Sam replied in serious tone.

“What’s the test?” I asked curiously.

“I have to meet him. If he doesn’t earn my approval, then he’s not worthy of her.” Sam joked, but I knew she was half serious. She can be a tough cookie, should be interesting when they do meet. She’s probably going to interrogate him, like a known criminal.

Sam stayed to chat for a few minutes, but eventually left to be with Josh.

Once I was alone, I settled in the chair next to Colton and repeatedly ran my fingers through his hair. At one point, I even think he leaned into my touch, which made me smile.
