The Mafia's Good Girl -
The Mafia’s Good Girl – Chapter 71
~ Violet ~
Hugo DeSantis knew how to throw an extravagant dinner party. He booked an entire country club in North Jersey to accommodate Damon’s family and his. In total, there were about a hundred people in attendance, the size of a small wedding party.
The country club was swinging, the food was amazing, and the alcohol was flowing freely. Everyone from Damon to Adrian, Talia, and all of Damon’s guys were eating and drinking and having a good time, but Violet had other things in mind. She was eating her meals slowly and carefully, and she always kept a close watch on Damon and Celina.
Violet noticed how Celina liked to steal glances at Damon. She was also trying way too hard to get his attention. She’d bat her eyes or giggle obnoxiously loud at everything he said. Thankfully though, Damon didn’t pay her any mind. He was too busy putting his hand on Violet’s thigh and spoon-feeding her the food on his plate.
Hmm. I really got a good one.
Violet was smiling from ear to ear as Damon fed her some of his tiramisu cake. Two hours went by so fast, the dinner was almost over and everyone was having dessert. By this time, Hugo was getting a little too drunk and Celina looked tired and upset. She failed to get Damon’s attention all night long, and this only made Violet more confident.
“What do you think you’re doing?”
Damon stifled a laugh when he felt Violet’s hand reaching for his thigh. With a seductive smile playing on her face, her fingers slowly and carefully grazed his groin area.
“What, do you not like it?” she challenged back. Her hand began to massage his length over his pants and his body stiffened instinctively.
“You haven’t been drinking alcohol behind my back, are you?” he narrowed his eyes at her suspiciously.
“Nope,” she replied.
“Well, then you’re just asking for trouble,” he laughed.
Damon’s eyes darted to the people around them before narrowing his eyes at her again. Everyone was too busy talking, eating, and laughing, so they couldn’t possibly notice what was happening under the table.
“This is our day and I’m not letting anyone ruin it,” Violet said as she tightened her grip on him. “Besides, who says you can’t have both business and pleasure at the same time?”
Damon swallowed hard at her words. He took a quick glance over at Hugo, but he was way too drunk to notice anything. Violet kept the smile on her face as she continued massaging Damon over his pants. She could feel him getting hard and it only made her braver. Her right hand was locked on him and she nonchalantly used her left hand to take a sip of her drink. No one noticed anything, but when Celina glimpsed over at Damon and saw his expression, Celina noticed something and shot Violet a look. Unfazed, Violet simply smiled like a damn girl boss and kept her hand on her man.
“Baby, you better stop this or you’re gonna make me come in my pants,” Damon leaned to her ear and hissed.
“Is that supposed to scare me?” she whispered back.
Damon looked slightly taken aback, but he wasn’t fazed by it either. A slight smirk appeared on his face as he said, “Who are you and what have you done to my good, little Violet?”
“The good little Violet is gone for the night,” she said meaningfully.
“Damn,” he said through gritted teeth. “Who knew you’re such a bad girl?”
“Are you gonna punish me for being so bad?”
Damon and Violet locked eyes on each other. For a split second, it seemed like everyone in the room had vanished and it was just the two of them there. The electric current was so thick in the air, Violet got Goosebumps just by staring into his eyes.
If it wasn’t for all these people here, I’d jumped his bones already!
“So, Violet,” Hugo’s boisterous voice suddenly cut through the air. Violet and Damon whipped their heads to him instinctively. “How are your mother and brother doing?”
Violet’s hand stopped moving instantly. She could also feel Damon holding his breath.
“Excuse me?” she asked.
Hugo kept his gaze straight at Violet as he took another sip of his drink. Without blinking an eye, he then said, “I don’t know if you know, but your dad and I used to be business partners once. A long, long time ago,”
Violet swallowed hard. She didn’t realize that Hugo remembered her dad, or that he’d recognized her as James Carvey’s daughter. Violet’s entire body went stiff like a statue, and Damon could only stare at her helplessly.
“He was a good man. Kind-hearted. But not too savvy on the business end,” Hugo laughed and continued drinking. He was clearly way too drunk to be saying these things sober.
“He must’ve put your family through a lot. I feel sorry for you, your brother, and your mother, having to pay off all the debts the man has caused—”
“Don’t you dare talk that way about my father!” Violet spat and stood straight on her feet. Everyone in the room suddenly fell quiet and all eyes were on her. Violet didn’t know what came into her but her b***d was boiling and her heart was racing. “You have no right!”
“Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to offend you,“ Hugo stifled a smile, his apology didn’t seem at all sincere. If anything, it looked like he was making her upset on purpose.
Violet could feel her cheeks burning red and tears were pooling in her eyes. Damon saw everything unfolding, but he didn’t say anything or defend her in any kind of way.
I’m not going to stay here and be insulted by this monster!
“I… have to go,” Violet said lowly under her breath before turning to her heels.
“Violet—“
Damon couldn’t stop her even though he tried. She swatted his hand away and raced out of the country club as fast as she could.
Violet ran with her hands covering her eyes. She heard Damon calling out after her, but she didn’t want to stop. She kept running until she reached the streets where all the cars and taxis were parked.
“Violet, wait!” Damon yelled as he caught up with her. He pulled her arm forcefully, making her stop running.
“Leave me alone, please!” she shouted and pushed him back. “Just go back and drink with your business partner. Clearly, that’s more important!”
Damon was shocked to hear the words coming out of her mouth. She was shouting and crying, he had never seen her so upset. It hurt him to see her this way, but he didn’t know what to do. And while he was at a loss for words, Violet took the opportunity to escape and she jumped into the nearest cab.
“Violet!” Damon shouted in response, but she only slammed the door in front of him.
“Go! Please!” she told the taxi driver and the cab pulled away in a flash.
“VIOLET!”
Damon yelled again and again, but his voice was drowned by the sound of the engine running and her coarse sobbing. He tried running after her, but it was no use. The cab had driven far, far away, and her heart kept breaking with each mile that passed.

Violet ended up back at the estate as she didn’t know where else to go. She thought about coming home to Dylan and her mom, but then Dylan would say “I told you so” and that was the last thing she needed right now.
After paying the cab driver, Violet made her way into the mansion and went straight for the backyard. She didn’t feel like going to her room because that room reminded her of Damon and she didn’t want to be reminded of him right now. Instead, she went to the little church out in the garden and cried her eyes out at the altar.
Dad, I’m so sorry. You deserve better than this.
Violet remembered the words Hugo said about her dad and she hated it. Her dad was the greatest man she knew. Hugo only tainted his memory by bringing up the debt—which he fully caused. Hugo made her dad pay a huge amount of interest and the number kept going up as he pleased. He wasn’t a fair business partner, he was a narcissistic psychopath who was out to destroy her father. He would leech and leech until there was nothing left for Hugo to absorb.
But Damon, on the other hand, wasn’t fazed by this because he was on the same level as Hugo. Damon believed he was far too clever to be used by Hugo like that, so this wasn’t an issue in their partnership. But in between these two big dogs, Violet felt like a little kitten who was trapped and powerless. These two guys would only get more and more powerful while she and other people like her could only cower in fear.
Of course, this would happen. This is what I get for fraternizing with the enemy.
Violet knew that Damon was different. He was nothing like Hugo and it wouldn’t be fair to lump the two of them together, but in this exact moment, Violet was blinded by rage and bitterness. Hugo was practically laughing as he was teasing her about her dead father. He didn’t feel guilty at all. He knew what he did to her father and he was proud of it.
He killed my father and he boasted about it to me.
Violet didn’t think that Hugo would know about her being James Carvey’s daughter. But of course, nothing could get past a mafia king. He was sitting on this information from day one, and yet he was acting all pleasant and nice like it was nothing.
Violet felt like a fool. She wined and dined with the very man who killed her father, and for what? So that she could keep an eye on her man?
I must be the stupidest girl alive. Why do I let myself be in that position in the first place?
* CRASH! *
Before she could answer herself, she heard a loud crashing sound coming from the double doors. Violet whipped her head around and saw Damon standing at the doorway. He’d kicked the door open and it made a loud crashing noise.
“Damon?” she gaped, noticing those dark piercing eyes.
Damon didn’t say a word and he strode over to her like a lion stalking its prey. Once he was standing right in front of her, he didn’t waste a beat before bending down and pulling her into a tight hug.
“Oh, thank God, you’re here!”
Damon buried his face into the crook of her neck and pulled her deeper. Violet found herself squirming as he was holding her so tightly, but he wouldn’t budge.
“Damon, I can’t breathe…” she protested. “Let me go,”
“No,” he said simply.
“Damon,” she warned.
Damon took heed of her warning and loosened his grip, but he didn’t let her go completely. He pulled away just enough so that his face was directly in front of her. His dark brown eyes were sharp against her, locking her gaze in place.
“I don’t care how upset you are! Don’t ever run away from me again, do you understand?” he barked, and Violet was taken aback.
Wait, why is he angry at me? I’m the one who’s supposed to be angry here…
“And do you not learn your lesson? You’re not supposed to jump into any random taxis! We have drivers and bodyguards for a reason!”
Damon let out an angry sigh and his chest was heaving up and down. Violet then noticed his ragged breathing, he must be running to get over here. It was at that moment that she realized what she’d done. She had jumped into an unknown car and left him. The last time she did that, she got kídnapped by a rivaling family.
He must be worried out of his mind for me…
“I… I’m sorry,” she croaked.
Violet didn’t want to apologize for what happened tonight. Everything that happened with Hugo wasn’t her fault. But the running away part…
Yeah, I guess I shouldn’t have done that.
“Hey, I’m sorry too,” Damon said gently as he reached for her face. “Our night got ruined because of him. And I’m sorry that I can’t make him leave, but I promise, this is the last time that’s going to happen,”
Damon said those words meaningfully and Violet furrowed her eyes in response.
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“After I’m through with him, you won’t have to see the DeSantis family ever again,” he said full of conviction. “These people caused you and your family a whole lot of pain. I’m only going to keep hurting you as long as I’m with them. So that’s going to stop,”
Violet’s breath was caught in her throat. She didn’t expect this to come from Damon at all.
It sounded… too good to be true.
“But, what about… the business?” she asked.
“You’re more important than the business. You’re more important than anything,” He told her. His dark fiery eyes softened as he leaned his forehead against her. “So please, don’t you ever walk away from me again,”
Violet’s heart was melting into a puddle. Just moments ago, she was questioning everything that she stood for, but after hearing Damon’s promising words, she knew she had made the right choice. All the anger and rage inside her settled and she felt calm and secure. Nodding her head slowly, Violet closed her eyes and a single tear fell off her cheek. Damon’s hand reached up in response and he was quick to brush it away.
“Just trust me, sweet girl,” he said softly. “I have a plan,”
Violet opened her eyes and saw Damon’s gaze boring into her. He had never looked so serious before. And when he looked at her like this, it can only mean one thing…
He means business.
