The Mafia's Good Girl
The Mafia’s Good Girl – Chapter 66

~ Damon ~

Damon had never felt this nervous in his entire life. Standing on the top of a Manhattan skyscraper, his breath turned white in the air as he let out a long sigh. Putting his hands inside his pocket, he couldn’t stop fidgeting, and no, it wasn’t because of the cold. It was because his hand touched the small velvet box tucked inside.

Minutes later, the helicopter arrived and Violet came out in her long winter coat and leather boots. Damon took a moment and watched her, marveling at how beautiful she was. The wind was blowing in her face, and though it was cold outside, she looked as fierce as ever.

Goddamn. That’s my girl.

Damon’s heart was beating faster and faster as she stepped nearer. He was eager to get dinner started, but he accidentally slipped out the fact that there was another surprise coming up. Violet, of course, wouldn’t let it go and she pressed to know what the surprise was. Finally, Damon couldn’t hold it in any longer, and so he told her.

I promised to give you the world, so here it is.

Under the cold winter air, Damon showed her his skin and the tattoo he got. He wasn’t a man of many words, but he was a guy of action. These three little letters forever inked on his skin spoke volume. He wanted her to know just how much he loves her and what this would mean for their future.

“Violet Rose Carvey,” he said with his hands trembling. “Will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?”

Damon pulled out the box from inside his pocket and presented her with one of the most beautiful diamond rings in the world. Violet’s eyes were wide as saucers and her mouth fell open in shock. She didn’t know what to say or how to react. Her hands went to cover her mouth as she stared at the ring and at Damon.

“A-are you serious?” she stammered.

Is that even a question?

“I didn’t think I could find happiness again until I met you. I didn’t think I’d ever feel this much for somebody. You changed my entire world. So yeah, I’m dead serious,”

Damon tried his best to keep his cool, meanwhile, her lips started to quiver and her eyes turned glassy. He couldn’t help it anymore. His own eyes began to glaze.

“Damon…” she breathed.

Reaching out to hold her hand, he told her, “I’ve got the world in my hands but it’s not enough if I can’t share it with you. So will you…?”

…Please?

Damon hung on to her response. His chest was thumping and he held his breath as he waited.

“Yes,” she said finally, nodding her head and letting the tears fall to her cheeks. “A hundred million times yes!”

Damon felt the biggest weight had been lifted off his shoulders. His lips curved up a smile as he put the ring on her finger. Watching the ring resting on her finger, Damon’s heart never felt so full. She was now bound to him and the entire world could see it too.

“I love you, Damon,”

“I love you, sweet girl,”

Damon took her hand and raised it high in the sky. Standing on the adjacent rooftop building, they could see Talia, Adrian, Liam, and Damon’s other guys waving and cheering with joy.

* BOOM! * BOOM! * BOOM! *

Right on cue, Damon’s men started the fireworks show and they roared and blasted in the night sky. Violet looked up to see the colorful lights before them and she couldn’t stop crying. Damon let out a sigh and he pulled her into a k**s. His arms were wrapped around her body tightly, leaving no room in between them, and he kissed her with a burning passion that was even brighter than the fire under the winter snow.

Fúck yeah, this is my girl. Mine forever and ever.

~ Violet ~

It took Violet another 24 hours to finally let it all sink in.

After Damon’s surprise proposal last night, everything was a blur. Talia and the other guys came over to congratulate them. Bringing bottles of champagne in their hands, they popped the bottles and showered the lovebirds with the bubbly drink. Damon and Violet got so wet, it was impossible for them to stay up on the rooftop. By the end of the night, they moved the celebration over to the Plaza Hotel suite.

Violet and Damon ended up having their dinner in the hotel room. They wore nothing but bathrobes and ordered food from the room service. Sitting on the bed, they fed each other food, played tickle games, and of course, made love into the night. This was not how Violet pictured tonight would be like, but it was a thousand times better.

Totally the best first date ever.

With the fire burning in the fireplace, Violet and Damon fell asleep cuddling each other. They stayed in bed until 10 o’clock the next morning. They only got up when Adrian came into the room to tell them that the helicopter was waiting to take them back to the estate. He also came bringing them fresh new clothes as the ones from last night were drenched in champagne.

“Are you ready to go, wife?” Damon asked as he stepped closer to Violet who was watching her reflection in the bathroom mirror. She just finished taking a shower and she was getting ready to go.

Violet couldn’t help the smile forming on her face when she heard the word. She finished applying lipstick to her lips and turned around to face Damon. He was standing gloriously in a sleek black suit and his hair slicked to the side.

“Yes, husband,” she nodded and stood on her tippy toes, planting a gentle k**s on his cheek.

Damon also smiled when he heard the word. Though technically they weren’t married yet, it already felt like it. He could see his future in her eyes and vice versa. One look at his face and Violet knew her whole life was sealed.

He’s the one. The only one.

Damon stretched out his hand and Violet took it. Together, they walked out of the room and into the private elevator heading to the rooftop. When they got up there, Talia, Adrian, and Damon’s other guys were already waiting for them. Behind them were three helicopters parked and ready to go.

“I’m gonna talk to the guys for a second,” Damon said to Violet.

“Okay,” she nodded and let him go to his men.

Violet caught sight of Talia and the two girls ran to each other. Smiling brightly, Talia opened her arms and pulled Violet into a hug.

“Tal, hey!” Violet squeaked.

“Hey, Vi!” she replied. “Or should I say, good morning, Mrs. Van Zandt,”

Talia made a joking bow and Violet rolled her eyes.

“Stop,” she whined, and Talia laughed away.

“Oh my God, look at that ring!” Talia gasped and pulled Violet’s hand to inspect the diamond. It was huge and it sparkled under the sun. “Woah, move away Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson,”

Violet couldn’t help but laugh and blush.

“Did you know he was gonna propose?” she asked Talia. “Were you in on it too?”

“Adrian broke the news about a week ago,” Talia nodded her head. “And of course, I was in on it. Who do you think helped set up that romantic scene on the rooftop? Damon’s never watched a romantic movie in his life,”

Violet broke out in laughter again and she pulled Talia into a warm hug.

“Thank you,” she said to her friend. “Last night was the happiest night of my life,”

Violet was overflowing with happiness and joy. She felt like crying every time she remembered the moment from last night, but she didn’t want to ruin the make up, so she held it back. Meanwhile, Talia just looked at her with a look Violet couldn’t decipher. She wasn’t smiling like she was before, and there was a glint of worry in her eyes.

“Tal? Is everything okay?” Violet asked.

“No, yeah,” Talia shook her head quickly. “Don’t get me wrong, I’m absolutely happy for you two. But it’s just that… Marrying into this family isn’t easy. There’s gonna be a lot of things that you have to give up, like your freedom or dreams for one…”

Talia paused to see Violet’s reaction. Being a member of Damon’s family, Talia knew firsthand just how difficult it was to be a woman in the house. She loved being with Adrian and she loved the family, but this kind of life wasn’t made for everyone. Being in the family meant that her personal desires and dreams would have to take the backseat. Everything they did had to be for the family. Good, bad, and everything in between.

“There’s nothing more I want than to have you as a sister, but I just hope you know what you’re getting yourself into,” Talia said again, slowly and cautiously, hanging on to Violet’s expression.

Violet remained quiet as she took it all in. Talia had some good points, Violet wasn’t thinking about the cons when she agreed to marry Damon. She only focused on the pros, which was to be with him forever and ever. But would that be worth her freedom for the rest of her life?

Turning her head to the side, Violet caught a glimpse of Damon as he talked with his men. His face was serious and dark, but when his eyes caught her, his expression turned warm, and he smiled. Right at that moment, all her doubts suddenly went away.

“I know it’s not gonna be easy. There’s nothing easy about being with Damon,” Violet said after a while of silence. Then she turned back to Talia and gave her a reassuring smile. “But he’s all I want, and he makes me very happy. I feel free when I’m with him and he makes all my dreams come true,”

Being with him is the only time where I feel truly alive. No freedom in the world is gonna worth that.

“Good. Then I’m really happy for you,” Talia nodded her head and smiled back. She also took Violet’s hands and squeezed them tightly.

“Hey, don’t worry about me. I know what I’m doing,” Violet told her. “I’ve sold my soul to the devil before, I’ve learned the lesson,”

Talia stifled a laugh and rolled her eyes. Violet also smiled knowingly.

“Right,” Talia said. “So, you’re absolutely sure about this? There’s no going back?”

“There’s no going back,” Violet shook her head and glanced at Damon again. He had finished talking to his guys and he was making his way back to her. “He may be the devil, but there’s no one else for me but him,”

Damon kept his gaze on her eyes as he approached her. They didn’t even have to speak and their eyes did all the talking. Violet never felt more certain about anything else before. Though the road ahead might be difficult and full of surprises, she knew she could anything if he was walking it with her. Whatever the world may throw at them won’t matter as long as they have each other.

Because he’s my devil, and I’m his girl.
