The Mafia's Good Girl
The Mafia’s Good Girl – Chapter 62

~ Violet ~

“Merry Christmas!” Violet exclaimed happily as Damon entered the house.

Damon’s eyes widened as he saw the entire mansion decked out in full Christmas glory. There was a big Christmas tree standing by the fireplace, tassels and mistletoes were hanging from the ceiling, and there were candles, wreaths, and fairy lights scattered all around.

Today was Christmas Eve and Violet refused to let anyone forget about it. Christmas was always her favorite holiday and she had been going on and on about it since December started. Everyone in the estate, however, wasn’t as excited about the holiday as she was. Ever since the tragedy that happened five years ago, there was no celebration of any sort happening in the house. Damon said that the holiday was a waste of time and he refused to stop working for anything. So for the last five years, Christmases, Easters, and Thanksgivings went by pretty much unnoticed in the Van Zandt estate.

But not if I can help it.

Violet was adamant about making this year different. After everything that they had been through, she felt that it was important they celebrate the life and precious moments they were given. Adrian, Beau, and Damon all made it through getting shot at. Liam made it through a car crash, and Violet made it through a kídnapping.

If these aren’t reasons enough to celebrate, then I don’t know what is.

Starting very early in the morning, as soon as Damon and the guys went out to work, Violet and the girls went straight to decorating. Talia, Elena, and all the maids helped her put up this gigantic Christmas tree and they turned the whole house into Santa’s castle.

“Look, a mistletoe,” Violet let out a giggle as she stood before Damon, right underneath the mistletoe she had strategically hung.

“Well, wow,” Damon let out a chuckle and pulled her into a k**s. “Merry Christmas to you too,”

Smiling from ear to ear, Violet linked her arms around his neck and kissed him deeper. To be honest, she was a little scared that Damon might not like the fact that she turned the house into the set of Elf. But seeing that he was smiling and kissing her like this, she felt relieved.

“Do you like it?” she asked as she pulled away from the k**s. “It’s not too much is it?”

“It’s definitely a lot, but I love it,” he said with a chuckle. “And it smells amazing in here,”

“That’s probably the candles,” she said. “Or the gingerbread cookies we made,”

Violet had been a busy bee today. Not only that she was decorating the entire house with Christmas ornaments, but she also baked cookies, wrapped presents, and hung hundreds of mistletoes all over the ceilings to their bedroom. Yes, she wasn’t playing coy with that one.

“Why are you smiling like that?” she asked, noting the smile on Damon’s face.

“It’s just… I haven’t had Christmas like this in a long time,” he said as he threw his gaze around the house.

“Well, this is what Christmas is gonna be like from now on with me in charge,” she said as she stood on her tippy toes, planting a sweet k**s on his cheek. “You better get used to it,”

“Oh, I’m used to it all right,” he said as he pulled her in for another k**s.

Violet sighed as her body melted into Damon’s and he deepened the k**s. Pressing her body against his, he pulled her legs over his waist and linked them together. Not breaking off the k**s, he lifted her and carried her up the stairs, heading to the bedroom.

Kicking the bedroom door closed, Damon then brought Violet to the bed. He laid her down gently and climbed on top of her, showering her neck and jaw with k****s. Hot m***s escaped her lips as she ran her fingers through his hair. Damon let out a muffled g***n and his body tensed under her touch.

For the past few weeks, Damon had been working extra hard and he barely got a chance to rest. The D-Day, he called it, was coming soon and it was making everyone nervous and on edge. Which was exactly why Violet decided they should celebrate Christmas this year. It was important to stop and remember the small victories, like this moment right here.

“Hey,” she said seductively, catching him off guard. And when he looked up at her, Violet used the momentum to push him back on the bed. Climbing on top of him, she kissed and nibbled on his ear, whispering, “Let me take care of you,”

A big smile was plastered on Damon’s face as he watched Violet plant k****s all over his neck and chest. His body relaxed instinctively and he put his hands up behind his head. Violet let her hands roam his body and she trailed her k****s down south to his stomach.

* KNOCK * KNOCK *

But before she even reached his belt, there was a loud knock on the door and it made her stop moving. They exchanged a quick glance before turning their eyes to the door.

“Damon,” Adrian’s voice was heard as he knocked again.

Damon let out an irritated sigh and pulled Violet’s face back down to his chest.

“I’m busy,” he yelled, and Violet went back to kissing his neck.

“We have a visitor,” Adrian persisted.

Violet felt Damon’s tensing up again. She looked up at him and his eyes suddenly turned serious.

“Hold that thought,” he said as he moved away.

Not giving Violet a chance to stop him, Damon rolled off the bed and staggered to the door. Violet let out a disappointed sigh as she followed Damon out the door. Damon walked quickly and he was already running down the stairs when she got out of the room. From the second floor balcony, Violet saw that the front door was open and there were several guys in black suits standing at the foyer.

“Damon, mio figlio,” a familiar voice was heard and Violet noticed Hugo, wearing his signature fedora hat and opening his arms to greet Damon.

“Hugo,” Damon looked taken aback. “What a pleasant surprise,”

The two men shared a hug and Violet quickened her steps down the stairs. Other than Hugo and his men, Adrian, Talia, and several other guys were also standing nearby.

“It’s Christmas, so I thought I’d come by with some good news,” Hugo said with a chuckle. He then noticed Violet coming down the stairs and his eyes were fixed on her. “Ah, ciao darling. You look as beautiful as ever,”

Hugo stretched out his hand to her and Violet stopped her tracks. She didn’t want to take his hand, but she also didn’t want to cause a scene. Forcing out a smile, she finally gave him her hand and he kissed it lightly.

“Let’s go into my office,” Damon said as he noticed the uneasiness in Violet’s face.

“Of course,” Hugo said as he let Violet’s hand go. He then turned to the other people in the room and said,” Merry Christmas, everyone,”

The other people in the room muttered a reply and nodded their heads. They weren’t warm greetings, but just enough to be polite. Hugo then walked towards the stairs and he passed by Adrian who was still wearing a cast on his arm.

“Take care of that arm, eh?” he said with a dry laugh.

Adrian forced out a laugh but Violet could tell he wanted to roll his eyes. Adrian kept his cool and followed Damon and Hugo up the stairs and into the study. Violet and Talia watched in silence as the men disappeared to the second floor.

“I don’t like him,” Talia muttered under her breath, keeping her eyes narrowed at Hugo.

“Welcome to the club,” Violet sighed.

Hugo and Damon were inside the office for a long time. Biting her nails anxiously, Violet sat in the bedroom alone and she watched as the clock struck midnight. Christmas Eve was officially gone and there were no signs of Damon yet.

This is so not how I imagined tonight would be like.

The candles in the room burned to their ends and the mistletoes hung without a care. All Violet wanted for Christmas was to spend quality uninterrupted time with Damon, but apparently, that was too much to ask.

After waiting around for an hour or so later, Violet’s eyes were getting heavy and she started drifting in and out of sleep. Even though it was hard to stay awake, Violet didn’t want to fall asleep because she needed to know what Hugo DeSantis was doing here.

What does he want now? And why does he have to be so creepy!?

Finally, after a long time waiting, Violet’s stubbornness paid off as she heard the door creaking open. She pried her eyes open and saw Damon walking into the room. His eyes looked tired and he was shocked to see that Violet was still awake.

“Hey,” he said as he staggered to the bed. “I’m sorry that took a while,”

“Is everything okay?” she asked.

“Everything’s fine,” he said reassuringly.

“Is he gone?”

“He’s gone,”

Violet let out a sigh of relief and Damon climbed into bed. His lips twitched into a smirk as he leaned closer to her face.

“Now where were we…”

Damon was inching his lips to k**s her, but Violet quickly dodged him. She was in the mood to make out three hours ago, but not anymore.

“What does he want? Why did he come here?” she pressed on.

“Nothing,” Damon said with a sigh. “He just came by to say that everything’s in motion,”

“Can’t he do that over the phone?”

Damon noted the disdain in her voice and his hand reached up to cup her cheek.

“Hey, I know you don’t like him, but everything will be over in a week,” he said. “Just be patient, okay?”

“It’s not that I don’t like him, I hate him,” she pouted and crossed her arms. “And I feel scared every time he’s around you. What if he ends up being not who he says he is?”

Violet shot him a look and Damon furrowed his eyes like he didn’t like what he was hearing.

“Sweet girl, I don’t want you to worry about me. I have this under control,” he said in a firm and commanding tone. “You trust me, right?”

Violet paused for a beat before answering, “Well, yeah…”

“Good,” he said. “Because I have something to ask you,”

“What is it?”

“Next week there’s gonna be a New Year’s party at Hugo’s yacht. I want us to go there together. We can get all dressed up and we’ll go out and have a good time,”

Violet narrowed her eyes like she couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

He’s asking me to go to a party…? At Hugo DeSantis’s yacht? The man who got my father killed…

“Are you seriously asking me this?” she scoffed.

“I won’t be asking you to do this if this isn’t necessary,” he said as he reached for her hand, lacing her fingers with his. “Just one more week and we’ll be done with all of this. We’re done with Victor and we’ll be done with Hugo too. You don’t have to see him ever again,”

Violet fell silent and thought about her options. Damon seemed to be pretty persistent about this, which meant that he must have a plan. A plan he wasn’t willing to disclose just yet.

“I can’t say no to this, can I?” she said after a while of silence.

“Trust me. You’ll want to come see this,” he said as he cupped her cheek tighter. “It’s gonna be an event to remember,”

Violet rolled her eyes and Damon closed the distance between their faces, ending this conversation with a demanding k**s.

“You know that I trust you, but don’t abuse it,” she muttered in between the k**s.

“Did I ever?” he replied, smirking triumphantly.

Violet was by no means excited about this party, but Damon could be very persuasive. He reminded her that in seven days, all of their enemies would disappear. Nothing will threaten their happiness again, and all that it took was an appearance to a high-profile New Year’s party out at sea. That seemed like a fair exchange, right?

Seven days to forever…

Here goes nothing.
