The Mafia's Good Girl
The Mafia’s Good Girl – Chapter 42

~ Violet ~

“For what it’s worth, I think you’ll go down in history as the only girl that’s ever made him rethink his methods,” Talia said as she sipped her tea.

Violet let out a sigh and sipped her own drink.

If only that’s enough…

Today would be her last night in the estate and Damon had just left for work. Violet went to Talia’s and spilled the tea about last night, no pun intended, and Talia was telling her how she ran into Damon this morning.

Apparently, Talia asked Damon point blank if he’d ask Violet to stay and he said no. Flat out no. Talia said he seemed to be thinking about doing something else though, but she wasn’t sure what.

“Violet, what’s wrong?” Talia asked when she noticed the sadness in her friend’s eyes.

Violet put her tea down and bit her l*p. Her eyes turned glassy and she hated how weak she was feeling.

I’m going to be free after today. I should be happy…

Talia put her hand on Violet’s shoulder and squeezed it gently. Violet couldn’t help the tears falling from her eyes. She wiped them away and fanned her eyes so no more tears would fall.

“I knew I shouldn’t fall for him, Tal, but…”

“But you did,” Talia guessed it.

Violet sighed and looked down to her feet. She saw all the warning signs and she knew better than to do it, but she did it anyway. She fell for the monster who was only interested in her body and nothing more. He made it clear that this was only business and his only desire was to inflict pain, and yet Violet fell for him.

“What’s wrong with me?” she croaked.

Only a fool would trust her heart to someone like Damon Van Zandt. Only a naïve girl like her could enjoy being used and abused by a man. Violet was disgusted with herself and her stupidity. And it only made her felt worse that she was sitting here and crying about not being wanted by him.

“Nothing’s wrong with you, Vi,” Talia said as she pulled her friend into a hug. “Sometimes… the heart just wants what it wants,”

Violet cried harder and buried her face on Talia’s chest. “Why does it have to be him though?”

Why can’t I like anyone else? Why can’t I be a normal girl and like a normal guy?

“Oh, sweetie,” Talia sighed and stroked her hair. “He’s the only guy you’ve ever been with. You don’t know any better. Listen, it must be hard right now, but you’ll get through this,”

Violet steadied her breathing and pulled away. “You think so?” she asked.

“You’re a strong girl, Vi. I’ve seen you. I know you can make it through anything,” Talia said.

Violet wasn’t fully convinced because her heart was still breaking, but Talia was looking at her full of reassurance. She wiped the remaining tears on Violet’s face and gave her a hopeful smile.

“You survived meeting him, you’ll survive leaving him too,”

Violet’s last day at the estate was bittersweet, to say the least. Elena made her a big lunch and they reminisced about how fast time flies. In the afternoon, Talia and Violet took more walks in the garden and Talia picked some flowers for Violet to bring home to her mother.

Things were fine in the daytime, but once the sun was set and the night was approaching, Violet felt more and more downhearted. Damon would be home soon and they would have their last night together. Thinking about that made her heart twist and ache.

What’s going to happen to me now? What’s life going to be like without him?

Violet wandered up the stairs after dinner and she stumbled into Damon’s office. She pushed the door open and stepped into the empty room. The memories from last night were still fresh in her mind. She lay naked on that desk and waited for him to come home. He looked surprised to see her, but he was always ready for her. Just like every other day, he took her body for his pleasure and used her until she gave out. When she couldn’t move her body anymore, he picked her up and carried her to her room. He did stay with her in the night, but by morning time he was always gone.

That’s the deal you signed up for, Violet. Nothing more, nothing less.

Violet let out a sigh and continued pacing around the room. She took note of how neat everything in that room was. There was nothing out of place and everything had its practical use. He had no flowers or decorations. He didn’t even hang any pictures or art on the wall. If Damon Van Zandt was a room, he would be this room. Dark, practical, and straight to the point – with a hidden door leading people to someplace even darker.

Don’t worry, life will go back to normal. We’re going to be okay. With or without him.

Violet stood in front of the bookshelf, the one with the hidden door. She never noticed it before, but Damon actually had a lot of books here. The books ranged from sciences to business to literature. Violet picked up a Shakespeare book titled Hamlet and flipped open the pages, wondering if Damon had ever read them. Her eyes then came across a part that was underlined in the book:

Though this be madness, yet there is method in it.

There was also something scribbled in between the text and Violet squinted her eyes to get a better look. But before she could do so, she heard the door open and she looked up instinctively.

“Hey,” Damon said in that low and husky tone. He was standing at the door, wearing his signature sleek black suit, his jet-black hair was slicked to the side, and his eyes were dark and piercing like always.

“Hi,” Violet said, putting the book away.

“What are you doing here?” he asked, stepping into the room and closing the door behind him.

“Just… waiting for you,” Violet forced out a smile. She didn’t want to tell him the truth that she was here because she was sad about leaving. Damon would probably laugh at her if she did, or worse, take pity on her.

Letting out a sigh, Violet stepped away from the desk and went closer to Damon. She stopped when she was an arm’s length away and he was staring at her with a look she couldn’t decipher. His eyes pierced into her soul and Violet felt naked even though she was fully clothed.

Oh, right. That must be it.

Violet’s hands went to her zipper, unzipping her dress, and letting the fabric fall to the ground. She was wearing the leather collar on her wrist like a bracelet, and now it was time to take it off and put it around her neck. Damon watched in silence as she put the collar on and kneeled in front of him. His expression remained stoic and unreadable, he didn’t even crack out a smirk like he usually would. Violet pressed on and did what she thought he would want her to do. She reached for his belt and slowly unbuckled them.

“Stop it,” he said suddenly. Violet looked up to see his dark hooded eyes boring into her.

“Isn’t this what you want, Master?” she said, refusing to follow his command. “You still have one day left of me, you can do whatever you want,”

“Stop!” he growled.

Violet was about to reach for his zipper, but Damon grabbed her hand abruptly and pulled her up. He was holding onto her wrist so hard, it was bruising her skin.

“I already paid you, you’re free to go,” he said again.

What?

Violet was stunned. Damon let her go and pulled out his phone, showing her that he had transferred 3 million dollars to her account.

“Oh…” she said, not knowing how to react.

Should I be happy? Should I say thank you?

“I-I thought we still have one day left?” she stammered.

“You’ve been such a good girl, consider it a bonus,” he replied. He then reached for her neck and unlocked the clasp on her collar. “You can take the day off,”

Violet watched in silence as Damon took the collar off of her neck. There were many times where she despised that thing, but now that it was gone, it felt like her body was missing something.

“Well… thanks, I guess,” she said, sounding uncertain.

“Why? Do you not want to leave?” he asked.

“No, I want to leave,” she said. It was awkward having a serious conversation while being naked, so she quickly grabbed her dress from the floor and put it on.

“I guess I’ll get packing…” she paused for a moment before adding, “Have a good trip to Italy,”

Violet waited for a moment to see if Damon would say anything, but he didn’t. The longer she stayed there waiting for him, the harder it was to leave. Violet felt the tears pooling in her eyes but she didn’t want to cry, not here. So she turned around and headed for the door.

“Have you ever been to Italy?” Damon’s question suddenly caught her off guard.

“What?” she asked.

“It’s a beautiful place, especially this time of year,” he said simply. He wasn’t even looking at her, he was walking to his desk and sitting down.

“I… I’ve never been anywhere outside New Jersey,” she replied, not sure of why he was asking her this in the first place.

“Do you want to come with me?”

Violet couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She looked at Damon with eyes as wide as saucers, but he remained cool and nonchalant.

“To Italy?” she asked him.

“For a week,” he said as he took out his checkbook and began writing. “I can give you another million dollars for it,”

“You want to pay me one million dollars to go to Italy with you?” she gaped.

Damon had finished writing the check. He ripped the paper out and gave it to her. “What do you say?” he asked.

Violet fell silent. She looked at the check in front of her and also at the guy offering it to her.

What does this mean? Is this another contract? What do I do?

Violet was lost in her thoughts. Damon waited for a while, but he then got impatient. He waved the check in his hand to get her attention and narrowed his eyes at her.

What are you doing? You should say yes, you want to be with him! But do I really? Do I really want another contract?

“You have an answer for me?” he pressed again.

Violet swallowed hard before finally saying, “No,”

“No?” he looked taken aback.

“No, I don’t want your money anymore, Damon,” she said as she shook her head.

Damon didn’t look pleased. He stood up in anger but before he could say anything, she stepped towards him and put a hand on the side of his face.

“You should’ve just asked. I would’ve gone with you for free,”

Damon’s rage-filled eyes softened instantly. For the first time ever, Violet saw that he was speechless.

“Does that mean you’re coming with me?” he said after a while of silence.

“Only if I’m asked properly,” she replied.

A smirk crept up his face and he walked around the desk to get close to her. Standing at an arm’s length away, he then grabbed her hand and pressed his lips on top of it.

“Come with me, Violet,” he murmured to her skin. “I want you to come with me,”

His voice sent shivers up and down her spine. It also sounded more like a command and not a question. Violet didn’t respond on purpose and waited for his next move.

Damon kissed his way up her arm until his lips landed on her cheek. Violet felt her body melting to him, but she was stubbornly not saying anything.

“Say yes,” he whispered.

“Mmhm…” she m****d instead.

His lips were now kissing her jaw and neck, sucking lightly on that sweet spot.

“I’ll take that as a yes,” he said.

And just like that, Damon crashed his lips onto Violet’s, claiming her once again. She never said the word out loud, but she didn’t have to. From the way she was kissing him back, he could already tell how much she was craving for him, how hungry she was for him, and how relieved she was that they could still be together.

I mean, how could I ever say no to him?
