The Apple of My Eye
Chapter 1715 Feeling Embarrassed

"Leila, eat something. You have been so busy these days." Breaking the silence, Melissa passed Leila some food.

During dinner, the trio ate silently. Charles was in a bad mood, and the others wouldn't say anything to avoid annoying him any further.

Soon, Charles finished eating and then immediately went upstairs.

Wanting to follow, Leila stood up, but Melissa stopped her.

Melissa shook her head at Leila. After hearing Charles' bedroom door close, she grabbed Leila's arm and headed to the garden.

The two stood in the garden, and Melissa looked at Leila inquisitively.

The look on Melissa's face made Leila nervous. She took a deep breath and asked, "Aunt Melissa, what's wrong?"

"Nothing. I just wanted to ask you: Did something happen between the two of you later that night?" Melissa stared at Leila meaningfully.

There was knowing in Melissa's smile, and it made Leila feel more abashed. She held Melissa's arm a little bit tightly, and answered, "Aunt Melissa, your question is so embarrassing."

"Why are you so shy? It is normal for a man and a woman. Just tell me. Yes or no?!" Also feeling a mixture of nervousness and excitement, Melissa grabbed Leila's hands.

Seeing that Melissa was so persistent, Leila shook her head helplessly.

"It doesn't matter. You will have chances in the future. Does Charles treat you better than before?" still insistent, Melissa continued questioning.

Sighing after a while, Leila nodded. "Aunt Melissa, I know you are nice to me, but as long as Sheryl is still a member of this family, I think it will be hard for me to get Charles' acceptance."

"Leila, don't worry. After that night, Sheryl refused to see Charles. And, I talk about the divorce with him every day. I guarantee you, it will end one of these days." Afraid that Leila would give up now, Melissa hurriedly explained.

Hearing Melissa's assurance, Leila nodded.

After the discussion, the two felt much better.

Meanwhile, someone on the second floor was unhappy. At that moment, Charles was staring at Sheryl's picture. Seeing Sheryl's bright smile, he smiled bitterly.

Believing that he always had great self-control, Charles was confused. He didn't know what had been wrong with him that night. He was so sure that he would never be close to Leila, but something happened again.

Charles would never really know how Sheryl felt when she saw them, but one thing was clear to him. He broke her heart.

After that incident, Charles never saw Sheryl again. No matter what he did, she successfully avoided seeing him. If he didn't know Cloud Advertising Company was still operating as usual, he would have thought that Sheryl had already left this city.

He had never felt so sorrowful and guilty until that moment.

For now, he was unable to face two women at the same time. The first one he couldn't see. The second one he didn't want to see.

"Tap-tap!" There was a knock on the door.

"Who is it?" Charles knew that Nancy wouldn't disturb him at this time, and it left him with two choices. So he frowned and asked unhappily.

"Charles, Aunt Melissa prepared fruits for you."

"I just had dinner, so I am not hungry." When he heard it was Leila, his tone got cold.

"But Aunt Melissa prepared these for you. Just eat some." Not giving up, Leila remained standing by the door. She waited patiently. Obviously, she wouldn't leave until he opened his door. Looking at the door helplessly, he responded, "Come in."

Hearing his approval, Leila was so happy to push the door open. She entered the room with a big smile on her face.

Putting down Sheryl's picture, Charles picked up a book from the bedside table instead. He pretended to be reading it and didn't give Leila a glance.

After putting the fruits in front of Charles, Leila said softly, "Charles, Aunt Melissa has cut them for you. What would you like to eat? I will feed you."

"No need. Thanks. Go out, please," Charles replied politely.

From his point of view, Charles knew that it was not Leila's fault. It was because he was drunk that night. How could he blame her? So seeing that she was so cautious, Charles spoke in a soft voice. "Hmm, okay. I am going out now. If you need anything, call me." Being sensible enough, Leila turned to leave Charles' bedroom.

It was clear to her that she couldn't be so anxious and aggressive. What she needed to do was to make Charles accept her gradually.

After walking out of Charles' bedroom, Leila stood at the door for a moment and mumbled, "Charles, why can't you see my good points?" Then, she went downstairs slowly.

Every time she saw Leila unhappy, Melissa felt sad and sorry for her. What she felt for Leila was aggravated more by the insults Leila had received from Cassie when she bumped into her earlier during their shopping spree.

In low spirits, Leila sat down beside Melissa and asked slowly, "Aunt Melissa, when do you think will Charles accept me?"

"Leila, don't worry. It won't be long now. In fact, I am going to see Sheryl today. I don't believe she will be so shameless." Not long after, Melissa left Dream Garden in a rage.

Not really wanting to stop her, Leila called her several times, pretending to be concerned and trying to stop her. When she saw Melissa walk out of Dream Garden, Leila felt relieved. What she was afraid of was that Melissa was not really going to see Sheryl.

As soon as she left Dream Garden, Melissa called Sheryl.

Seeing that the call was from Melissa, Sheryl rejected it. She hated everyone from the Lu Family, especially Melissa. Since she was divorcing Charles, she didn't need to care about Melissa's feelings anymore. When her call was rejected, Melissa got angrier. She then headed to Cloud Advertising Company.

The security let Melissa come in, but Phoebe stood up to stop her.

"Mrs. Lu, what can I do for you?" Knowing what happened between Sheryl and Charles, she knew just what she had to do. Seeing Melissa arrive in a rage, Phoebe guessed that she wanted to make trouble. Before stopping Melissa, Phoebe already asked somebody to tell Sheryl that Melissa had arrived.

Though busy with the office documents, Sheryl noticed her secretary come in. She raised her head and asked, "What's up?"

Nervously, the secretary pointed outside and said, "Ms. Xia, Mrs. Lu arrived."

"Mo... What does she want?" Almost calling Melissa 'mother', Sheryl stopped just in time. Melissa was just her mother-in-law. And, it was improper to call her 'mother' now, since she was going to divorce Charles.

"Okay, I see." Sheryl replied. Then, she stood up and walked out.

"Who the hell are you?! Why are you stopping me?!" Shouting, Melissa pointed at Phoebe arrogantly. She didn't care who Phoebe was.

"Phoebe, please, continue your work." Coming out, Sheryl heard Melissa curse Phoebe. Unhappy, Sheryl didn't say anything, for Melissa was an elder. All she could do was ask Phoebe to leave.
