Brooke and I walk away from the pack house and head straight into the forest.

There is no words said but I can sense her looking at me from the side but she walks ahead of me.

“We need to make it right with mate” says Asher.

“I know but how” I say.

He grunts as he looks back at me “Well stop walking and start talking you fool” he says.

I stop suddenly, Brooke notices and looks back at me over her shoulder “You ok?” She mouths.

“Yeah” I say “I want to talk to you but I’m trying to find the words.”

She looks at me but gives me a small smile “How about we sit?” She mouths as she moves closer to a log that is on the ground and sits down.

She stares at me but I don’t move as I think its best I stand so she can see me.

“Brooke, what happened back there was nothing” I said “Amy came over to me as I was smiling like an i***t as I was thinking about you and our walk but I didn’t think it would affect you the way that it did” I say but instantly regret what comes out of my mouth.

She looks at me but stares but suddenly her eyes close and Willow comes through “Brooke wanted me to talk to you” she says.

“Willow I didn’t…..” I start to say but she cuts me off with a hiss “You knew what you were doing when you asked that human girl to stay” she says.

I look back at her; she thinks I did this on purpose.

I can Asher come closer to the surface and he wants to come forward, I let him.

Asher is with me, he uses his voice “Human was stupid and not thinking about mate, but he is trying” he says and steps back. I look at Willow who has no expression on her face “I have to say I would like to meet my mate soon” she says.

I look back at Asher who has a smug look on his face, down boy.

“Asher is right; I didn’t mean to have Amy here. She had information about Madison and Austin contacted her about his brother. I wouldn’t have asked her to stay but she has been helping with the children and also her mate is a very good fighter” I say and walk closer to Willow and Brooke, I kneel in front of them “I won’t go near her, if that’s what you want but I have changed from that stupid boy years ago. I want to make it up to you and show you that.”

I sound like I’m pleading for my life, which technically I am as Brooke is my mate, my soulmate but I know I have to make sure she knows that.

Brooke smiles but Willow speaks “Brooke is willing to try, she was going to this morning but she would like you to not be near that girl till she feels comfortable but Shane and her talked, she has someone who knows what it feels like but she is slowly coming around” she says and smiles “Brooke wants to know if you want to be friends first and we can go from there.”

I smile; I will take whatever she gives me at the moment even if it is being my friend. I can feel the hurt run through me but like everyone has said before I need to take my time with her as she has not only been through so much but also I hurt her.

“I would love to be friends with her” I said which earns a smile off Willow.

Willow closes her eyes and opens really quickly to reveal Brooke, staring back at me.

“Friends” she mouths.

I nod.

She gets up and holds her hand out to me, I look at her confused “Friends don’t hold hands” I say but she smirks “Girls do, but I want to hold your hand” She mouths “I want to work on this” she mouths pointing between the two of us “I only have one mate, it’s you but I want to be myself around you and maybe in a few days we can go on a date once we are comfortable with each other.”

I stare back as my mouth drops wide, but I quickly close it which makes Brooke c**k her head to the side to look at me “What’s wrong?” She mouths.

I smile “Nothing, I wasn’t expecting you to mention date in the same sentence as friends but we can start off as friends and we can build up to that” I say.

She nods but looks at me “No Amy for now” she mouths “I will talk to her first but I want to work it out with you.”

“No Amy” I say and smile.

I place my hand in hers; tingles shoot up through our hands. I can’t help but look at her; the surprise look on her face tells me that she felt it too.

“Mate likes us but you need to make sure you don’t f**k up” says Asher as he looks through my eyes “She is amazing isn’t she.”

I couldn’t agree more.

We walk hand in hand for ages around the pack grounds. There are loads to see. Brooke takes everything in and even remembers a few places that we went as kids. Her face widens as we come to the clearing.

This place is where we all used to go as children; even though I never liked Brooke at the time I could tell she loved it here. We are at the lake where the border crosses into the human side of town that is over three miles away. We don’t claim the land in between.

Brooke smiles “I remember this place” she mouths as I stare at her “Daisy and I used to swim in there when Rex and you would jump in off the rocks over there.”

I can’t remember the last time we were here last but it was about when we were kids.

We sit on the ground not too far by the lake and look out but I can’t help but stare at Brooke.

Her scars are on show but she seems so content at the moment but probably sensing that I’m looking at her, she turns to look at me “What?” She mouths with a slight redness spreading on her cheeks.

I smile “I love how you are in your own skin” I say. I can see her tense but I shake my head “I don’t mean anything by it, you are amazing Brooke” I say and place my hand in hers.

She smiles.

Suddenly the smell of rotten eggs and death wafts towards me, I can’t help the growl that escapes my mouth which startles Brooke and she looks at me “What’s wrong?” She mouths looking slightly worried.

I get up off the ground rather quickly and help her up, watching every corner of where we are.

“Rogues” I say quietly.

But suddenly a scent, I know all too well.

I growl as I stare at the location where it was coming from.

“Hudson baby, I’ve missed you” she calls out as she walks closer between the trees.

She’s not alone, there are more of them.

I can see human and wolf forms appearing around us.

I pull Brooke to my side, I can feel her tense beside me.

Asher is on edge and growling like mad in my head as he wants to protect Brooke.

Madison looks between the both of us and starts to laugh “I think I’m going to enjoy this, you need a proper woman not a pathetic little b***h like that” she says.

Brooke tenses beside me, I growl loud “She is more woman than you are” I say through gritted teeth which make her and a few others laugh.

I open a mind link “Rex” I say “You need to get to the lake as quickly as you can” I say “Where we used to swim as kids, there are rogues and I’m here with Brooke, we are on our own.”

I know he can hear me, I soon realize that we are completely surrounded. There are ten or more rogues surrounding us.

“YOU NEED TO HURRY” I shout through to an open mind link to everyone now in the pack “WE ARE OUTNUMBERED.”
