The Alpha's Exchanged Mate -
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 91
Edwina’s POV…
I put a hand on my chest, feeling my heartbeat. It was beating extremely fast. I didn’t want to start acting like a maniac or be considered as one. When Becca asked if I was okay, I only nodded slightly, unsure of what to say.
She already thought my sister was crazy and wouldn’t hesitate to say I was experiencing a phase too. I would need to go back to Sonia and ask her for the exact truth and why she thinks dad wants to kill her, especially if he was considered dead.
“Can you please take me back to the prison yard?” I told the driver.
“As you please ma’am.” He replied, making a turn back to the road leading to the prison yard.
I have been thrown into a series of shocks in just a day. I didn’t know exactly how I was feeling. At this moment, I would do anything just to forget my sorrows and worry about them later. Thinking of that sent waves to my p***y. Even in this present situation, the thought of f*****g Xander felt comforting.
“Want to share?” Becca asked meekly, straining her back to catch my eyes.
I sighed, “don’t worry about me Becca, I will be fine.”
The car went silent throughout the ride, arriving at the prison yard soon after. I almost jumped out of the car but had to compose myself when I got reminded of my position in the pack. I walked hurriedly towards the cell Sonia was kept in.
As soon as she saw me, she sprouted from her sitting position so fast I almost thought when would fall back from dizziness.
“Did you find him?” Her eyes shot out.
I tried to maintain a calmness to be able to read through her without being biased. I could see a scared young woman fighting really hard to save herself for the sake of her child. My shoulders sagged as I slumped into the chair.
“Tell me the truth, Sonia. What exactly happened a few years back, during the time dad died?” I asked her, my eyes searching once again.
Sonia bowed her head, keeping mute for a few seconds. “He had faked his death to keep the secret of his assault from getting exposed. The idea of getting caught didn’t sit right with him.”
I could sense her hesitation, “tell me!” I ordered, losing every ounce of patience left in me.
Tears dropped from her eyes, “he had caught Ben and me together and was attempting to blackmail us. Ben threatened to expose him if he didn’t stay far away. Or he was going to have him killed for real. He left all these years, but he is back now. Please believe me, Edwina.”
I tried hard to process the information given to me, I knew our father wasn’t much of a good man, but I didn’t realize he was such an animal. After stooping so low to abusing his daughter, he still went ahead to blackmail her. I wish I wasn’t born into this sort of crazy family. It was in a total mess.
“When are you planning to take me away from here?” Sonia asked.
I sighed, rubbing at my forehead. “I haven’t really thought of it yet Sonia, and Xander has not been informed either. I would ensure you are kept safe. Trust me.” I assured her
I could visualize the wheels in her head spinning. A whole lot must be running through her mind. I just sincerely hope she wouldn’t do something crazy. She didn’t look too certain about what I said but nodded her head in response.
“Thank you sister.”
“See you soon,” I said half-heartedly, hoping that would be the case.
I headed out feeling burdened, and my head ached as a result of the day’s stress. I was beyond fagged and needed to rest my head.
“You look like you might pass out,” Becca said, giving me a pitying look. “Let’s get back to the pack house; I will make you some nice relaxing green tea. You have had a long day.”
“I will really love it if you keep that promise. I need something to distract my raging thoughts.
Different thoughts kept unsteady, and I felt indecisive. However, deep within me, I knew I had to ensure my sister was safe. I wouldn’t forgive myself if I eventually found out she had been telling the truth about our father being after her life. A log of wood was a great description of how stiff my body was when we returned home.
It was already late evening; I had a feeling Xander would have called. Only then did I remember to check my phone in my purse; as expected, I had several missed calls from him. Knowing him well, he would be pissed.
My thoughts were to have him f**k me till my bones can’t take the hit anymore, but judging by the situation, I doubt he would take the time to listen to me.
“You can save the green tea for later, Becca. I will just call it a night.” I told her.
“The alpha wouldn’t be happy to hear that. You haven’t had a good meal all day. Dinner should be ready by now, you should freshen up, and I will get it up to you both.” She replied.
Becca is unintentionally nice and attentive to other people’s feelings. I couldn’t resist her offer for the food. She was right; if I must feel better and be able to think straight, it would be nice to have a nice meal.
Raising my hands up in surrender, I gave a tight smile. “Whatever you say.”
She smiled in return, squeezing my hand softly before excusing herself. If only she knew how much that meant to me. I climbed onto the stairs with a dread feeling washing over me. I was in no right mood to engage in an argument with Xander. But there was no way I could spend the situation at hand until later.
Bracing myself, I inhaled deeply, placing my hand on the doorknob. As the door paved the way to the room, I found Xander sitting on the couch in the room, staring at me with a blank look on his face. No one needed to tell me that I was in for some deep shit.
