The Alpha's Exchanged Mate
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 79

Alexander’s POV…

I pulled out my tie violently, sending a dull pain to my neck. To my disappointment, the conversation I had with Sonia got a better part of me. Maybe I was too harsh on her, but that still doesn’t justify her actions. She was independent-minded enough to know what to do and what not. I inhaled, trying to clear my head.

Throwing my head back, I shut my eyes tightly, jolting back almost at the same time when I remembered that I had not spoken to Edwina all day. It surprised me that she made no attempt to reach out to me. I felt a bit bothered. Picking up my phone from the stack of files I had tossed it on, I called her. But she wasn’t picking. Where the hell could she be? She should be awake by now. I thought again, checking my wristwatch.

I was about to start raving when she picked up.

“Hey.”

Her soft voice filled my ears, sending some tingle my way.

“Hey, mama,” I cooed, surprised at the change in my tone. “Missed you all day.”

“Missed you more, sorry I didn’t inform you I would leave home early. Did you get bored?”

Edwina snorted playfully, “I’m the Luna, and I have duties to perform just like you do, alpha. So, I was not bored just because I had too many things to do.”

I smiled proudly, “I’m glad you take your duties seriously.”

“When are you coming?”

“Could be with you in a minute.”

“I promise to make it worth while if you do that.” She whispered, her words making so many silent promises.

My d**k knew just what that meant and was reacting to the sound of it.

“You would see me soon.” I told her as she ended the call.

I almost forgot I was still pretending my legs couldn’t move on their own when I leaped out of my chair in excitement. S*x wasn’t something I did prioritize, not even when I was with Sonia; however, every moment spent with Edwina holds dear to my heart. She was doing something to me, and I definitely didn’t want it to end.

Dialing Caleb, he picked on the third ring. This was unlike him; he picks my calls almost immediately.

“I’m set to go home,” I told him over the phone, keeping my questions till he came into the office.

Caleb walked into the office, his face glowing. I saw that his wolf’s happiness bounced through the room’s four walls, and he had a sheepish smile on his face.

“You are smitten.” I informed him, smirking.

He tried hard to keep a straight face with no success.

“I have no idea what you mean by that, alpha,” he replied, holding on to the wheelchair’s handle to help me out.

I kept quiet till we got back into the car, “did you get f****d?” I threw the question straight at him.

Caleb blurted out in a fit of cough, “what the hell!” He exclaimed, gripping the steering wheel to keep a hold of himself back.

“I am not just an alpha for mere reasons Caleb, I can smell your o****m.”

My speculation only made me feel proud of my ability. He looked mortified with his eyes darting back and forth.

“Am I that obvious?” He grinned like a five-year-old.

“How in the world did you get into such business within the few hours I left you all by yourself?” I queried, amused at the turnout of things.

I could have sworn Caleb hadn’t had s*x in a decade. He mainly kept to himself and wasn’t much of a flirt. I had only seen him spend time with Becca aside from Ramona, whom he has feelings for. There was no other woman I could point out to.

“Mind telling me, I am really keen on hearing it all,” I taunted him as he drove the car out of the office premises.

“There is nothing to tell,” he bickered.

“Want me to find out?”

All I needed was to find a way to connect with his mind. I was so certain the lady’s name still lingered there.

“You have been acting sneaky lately, did you think it would go past my nose without me knowing?”

Shaking his head, he gave me a quick glance. “Just ask if you really want to know.”

I chuckled, “fine! Who is it?”

“Ramona.”

I could have sworn I heard him squeak, “Ramona?”

He nodded affirmatively in response.

“You have got to be kidding me? You both were practically hating on each other few days ago.”

Caleb shrugged, “she finds me worthy now.”

I could hear the doubt underlying his words. “You sure about this?”

As much as I understand how his heart yearns for Ramona, it’s of common knowledge she only wants a man with a position, not the man himself. Caleb had loved Ramona for years, non-stop, despite her not paying him any mind. It’s no surprise she jumped at him the moment he became beta. Now, what worried me was his heart being on display.

“She accepted to go out on a date with me. Maybe, we could get to know each other beyond the speculations we all have about her.”

I wanted to protest, but then Caleb is a grown-a*s man who knows what he wants for himself. I can’t be the one to make a decision for him. I’m just as clueless when it comes to matters of the heart.

“How was it, though?” The question came out a bit too direct. I really didn’t mean to.

He grinned widely, catching my embarrassment.

“The last time I checked, respectfully though…” He mused, raising a brow. “…I never ask about your escapades with the lun….” He let out a fake cough to cover up his words.

Smacking my lips together, I knew just what that meant. Mind your damn business.

“Alright!” I surrendered

Still holding up his smug smile, “thanks for always being so understanding, boss.” He commented.

Giving him a nod to let him know I did understand, even though I would like to send a huge blow to his guts, I bit on my tongue. My phone message notification dinged then, and the sight my eyes beheld made my mouth water.

“Would appreciate if you pressed harder on the pedal Caleb.” I urged him, my heart racing.
