The Alpha's Exchanged Mate
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 77

Alexander’s POV…

I stared at Sonia as she kept up with her hysterical laughter. Somehow I was beginning to doubt the said feelings I had for her. This lady right in front of me is definitely crazy, and I didn’t want to believe I had fallen for someone like her. I was about to ask Caleb to summon the warden to come to check her. The moment she had set eyes on me, she burst into a string of laughter, causing her bump to join in.

I folded my arms across my chest, waiting patiently for her to get herself in check.

“You bastard!!” She growled.

One of my gammas attempted to shut her up, but I nodded for him to let her be. Her wolf had surfaced, and I could see it threatening to unleash itself. I felt the urge to laugh out. She must think my being crippled implies her wolf having the ability to confront me.

“How could you?” Sonia banged the table separating us violently. I had a feeling the pain she caused herself would ache for a few hours.

“I agree to it that you were hurt and you needed to take it out on me. But really? My sister?” She scoffed, “that’s so epic. You acted too low this time alpha, your crippled state must be getting to you so bad.”

I relaxed into my wheelchair, watching her with amusement. “and why are you so pained?”

“I thought you were going to take me back! You married my sister to spite me. Have you forgotten she has a deficiency?” She glared

“I would choose her a thousand times than getting back to you, Sonia,” I stated confidently.

She sniffed, “Edwina is such a traitor. I should have known she was no good when she came here acting all goody two shoes.”

I was losing the little patience I had left now, “hold it right there, I won’t have you talk trash about my wife. She had sacrificed herself to lessen your punishment. You should be grateful to her. If not, your tiny neck would have been caught up in the ropes.”

Sitting up, she gave me a disgusting look, “I see letting you f**k her seems like a wholesome sacrifice, huh?” She taunted.

I rubbed at my face, massaging my forehead as I was beginning to feel light-headed. I had come here intending to maybe sympathize with her and make her see a reason to be grateful to her sister, but she seemed so unconcerned. “You are such an inconsiderate bitch. Even if you must act low, can you not do so when you have a new life coming your way?”

“You..do not…tell me how to behave. You are just as guilty as I am. Why would you think of sleeping with my sister?”

“You slept with my supposed best friend!” I argued, hating myself for letting her get to me. I stared at her, “were you actually saying the truth when you confessed to your father sleeping with you? Cause it seems to me like you just wanted a pity trial.”

That got to her and made her sober. Her eyes watered with tears as she glared at me.

“Don’t you mess with my pains!” She warned.

I snorted, “you really are something, you want to be pitied and given a chance. But you wouldn’t even give your sister a room.”

Sonia shrugged. “She acted like she cared, but now it’s obvious that all she wanted was you this whole time.”

“She had no choice.”

“I told her not to!” She raised her voice again.

“Would you have actually preferred to be hanged!” I bellowed in annoyance. “You coward!” I heaved.

Her eyes darted everywhere. She had been exposed.

“You throw tantrums at your sister, blame her for horrible decisions you made as an adult. Accuse her of being the reason your father abused you. What exactly are you to be blamed for, then? You had a choice for every decision you made when you left your father. I did all I could to be a good husband, but nothing was ever enough for you. Edwina has had her own share of the blame and she still didn’t hold a grudge against anyone. Why won’t you just act mature and reasonable? I only accepted to let you off because of her. If it were up to me, seeing your face and that bump that serves as a constant reminder of your betrayer, and it irks me all the time.” I growled alongside my wolf.

I wanted to express myself so badly, but I kept holding back for unknown reasons.

“I had my fair share of life too.” She defended weakly

“You still could have turned out better.”

It’s surprising how Edwina, who is meant to be the most bitter person on Earth because of how she got treated by everyone, turned out to be one of the sweetest creatures I have ever met. I am beginning to see why Ben would go to a second war with the night howlers just to get her back. A woman who is loyal and submissive was a rare combination to find.

I watched Sonia in silence, trying to find the beautifully innocent-looking she-wolf I had made my Luna and fallen in love with. But I saw an entirely different person; I saw who she really was. Even though it was obvious she regrets her actions, the problem is her ego not letting her see beyond.

She bit on her lips hard, trying to stop the tears from falling.

“You should get yourself together. This is the limit we can go to saving you from spending the rest of your life in here. And when I meant we, that implies Edwina and me,” I told her, wheeling myself towards the door.

Gritting hard, I could hear her teeth clanking against each other.

“She will never be able to satisfy you like I did,” Sonia yelled behind me.

I chuckled dryly, staring back at her. “Trust me, she is way better. Way better.”

Calling out to Caleb to get me, I could feel her glare burning holes into my back.
