The Alpha's Exchanged Mate
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 29

Alexander’s POV…

I felt so weak. Caleb kept looking at me on our way back; he knew I wasn’t able to confront Sonia, considering the amount of time I had stayed there. It wasn’t that I didn’t want to face her, but I felt I wasn’t ready.

Truth be told, I could say I loved Sonia, and she meant the world to me at a point in my life. But getting the kind of betrayal I did from her came as a blow to me, and it changed my perspective on love. And now, on the other hand, there is Edwina. I think I respect the woman she is, and I like her, but she still seems to be so in love with Ben. After all that undeserving prick had done to her, she still chose to love him. Her love is loyal, and I think that’s the kind of love I need, not the sort that Sonia gave, which was only loyal to me in certain conditions.

As I wheeled myself into the high-rise building of my company and greetings flew from left and right, I could only wave. Since I got married, this was the first time I showed up to work, and the only reason I had come was that I had an extremely important meeting with the head of the sizzlers, Alpha Bethel.

I was shocked when I received the email from my Secretary Ramona about the meeting. This was the last meeting I was expecting to happen.

Since the time they attacked the night howlers and crippled me, there had not been any form of communication with them.

I wheeled past the conference room where I saw Alpha Bethel sitting down with his Beta Andrew, and three of his Omega stood outside. It was a see-through glass window so I could observe everything from my office.

When entering a rival territory, it is only sensible to go prepared, and that is what Alpha Bethel did. Ramona, my secretary, knocked and impatiently entered my office.

“Sir, they have been waiting for over thirty minutes,” she mumbled.

“Good morning to you too, Ramona,” Caleb, who was standing beside me, replied, and I smiled.

“I am sorry, Alpha Alexander,” she said, facing me and rolling her eyes at Caleb, “Good morning, sir. The guests are waiting in the conference room,” she said, this time composing herself the more.

I grinned. “Thank you, Ramona. Inform them I will be here shortly,”

“Okay, sir,” she replied and left the room.

“What is your problem with Ramona? You are always countering her.” I turned to Caleb with a smile on my face.

“I don’t like how she can be so impulsive at times,” he replied subtly.

“I agree to that, but you can’t deny she gets the job done,” I replied to him, and he sighed.

“And makes a lot of mistakes,” he added.

“Well, don’t we all? Are you sure this is only because of her impulsive nature or because she refused your proposal to mate her,”

He laughed out hysterically.

“She said she only wanted an Alpha or Beta as her mate. Now the Alpha is married twice without even considering her and the Beta turns out to be a piece of trash, so it’s her loss,”

I let out an uproar of laughter, especially knowing that Caleb liked Ramona, but her rejection had made him resentful towards her.

“So why are you stalling?” He finally asked.

I glared again at the conference room across the hall and still saw them patiently waiting for me. My hand raised the cup off the table, there was a slightly hot coffee on it, and I took a sip of it.

“I wanted to relax a little before going out there to meet them, I am not sure exactly what they want.”

“Hmmm,” Caleb sighed.

I wasn’t scared, but I wasn’t prepared for this meeting. The last time I had this meeting with the sizzlers had led to the battle that caused me to be crippled and lose half of my soldiers.

An alpha isn’t supposed to run from a battle, but I wasn’t ready for it. I didn’t want to have to go to fight now. I haven’t gotten the full effect of this pretense of mine to be crippled.

If a battle is declared, I would have to reveal that I could move and not be crippled because I wouldn’t be seated in a wheelchair while my soldiers go to battle for me.

“I know they will feel this is the right time to make the final strike towards capturing the night howlers’ territory. Look at it, you aren’t in the best position to battle, and our Beta is In prison,” Caleb outlined, and I sighed. He is truly right because if there is any time for an attack, then it should be now.

Due to the realm’s existing tradition, no clan or pack of wolves is allowed to attack without giving any prior notice or laying down their terms for battle and the possibility of settlement.

The last time a clan had attacked without prior notice, it had led to the mass genocide of the other pack. It was brutal. But the moon goddess was displeased by that action and sent a horrible plague to wipe off the other clan. When is balance in the realm, it creates room for orderliness.

“I know that’s why they are here. We are in the most vulnerable state; the last time we went to battle, we lost quite a good number of soldiers. We haven’t recuperated from the attack, and I don’t think we can stand another battle,” I lamented sincerely, and that’s why I appreciated my relationship with Caleb. I could say my truth to him and not bother that he would see me as weak.

“And you know that since the last time, a lot of our soldiers had also sworn allegiance to the sizzlers and left the pack.”

Damn unfaithful followers aren’t willing to die for a cause that had protected them and their children for years.

“So, what do you think we should do?” I asked Caleb because, at this point, I was indeed out of options.

“I think we should hear their settlement deal and if it is something we can afford to lose then we should consider it because if we go to war, we will lose badly and that’s not what we want,”

I let out an exasperated gasp; somehow, I felt he was right because even if I left this crippled state, what is the possibility of winning this battle?

I glared at him, and I sighed.

I signaled for him to move me back to my wheelchair, and he helped me lower my back to sit on it, this was one hard decision to make, but I think that was the only option.

I wheeled myself towards the conference room, and I paused at the door as I saw Caleb lingering almost close to the conference room outside.

“What are you doing?” I asked.

“I am just an omega wolf, it is not my place to be in such a meeting,” he replied calmly.

“From today you are my Beta and would be allowed to attend all meetings,” I declared.

“No sir, I am not worth it,”

“Yes, you are. If there is anyone who has stood by my side unconditionally through it all, it is you. You deserve to be the Beta and I will start all the procedures for the transfer of Ben’s lineage to yours.”

I could see his eyes filling with tears.

“Thank you, Alpha Alex, I am honored,”

I smiled and opened the door with Caleb standing beside me.

It is time to discuss the war.
