The Alpha's Exchanged Mate
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 135

Alexander’s POV…

The number was unbelievable. If I had been told that I had almost half of the pack members being allies with Ben, I would have thwarted the saying. But, right here in my face beneath the hill we hid behind were night howler’s pack members who had chosen to betray their homeland for a traitor.

Anger simmered through me at the thought of how insensitive they were. I was still their alpha, and they had the audacity to go behind my back and betray me in such a manner. I understand their excuse was my being unable to walk. But joining hands with Ben to destroy not just me but the entire pack was so unreasonable.

I balled my hands into a fist, angry at myself and mostly Ben. Ben, for being a two-faced cheating bastard. For deciding to be an irresponsible friend and beta, including being selfish and nonchalant towards the betterment of the pack.

“What’s wrong?” Caleb asked, his face creased in worry.

“I just can’t understand why any of them would be so keen on selling the pack off to a traitor like Ben..” I mused

“Some of them are indebted to Ben one way or the other, and the other part of them are trying to protect their families by joining hands with who they consider the protector. You know why they think you can’t protect them….” He looked towards my stilled legs to make emphasis.

I know what was running through his mind, but I wasn’t ready to answer that yet.

“Still, I’m not so redundant to be unable to protect them. I have able-bodied soldiers like yourself and the others.” I argued.

Caleb sighed, looking towards the expectant men who seemed excited to see their master. “They are only seeking protection, and these people have been brainwashed into believing what they see.”

I scoffed in irritation, not wanting to believe they would act so insensibly like that. Someone like Ben has nothing to do with them. He only needs them as a front to get what he wants.

I sighed, feeling pity toward my people. As the alpha, my job is to protect them. But that doesn’t seem like the case, and I feel incompetent at this point.

Inhaling, I looked up at Caleb. “Do you have plans to use guns on them?”

“If they act too resistant. We just might.”

“Shouldn’t we try our possible best to change their mind?”

“I don’t think we can right now, alpha Xander. Until all of this is over, we need to be diplomatic as much as we can.”

He was right, as much as I wouldn’t want to waste the life of about two hundred of my pack members. There is a need to be logical in thinking.

“We are ready.” Carlos and Jason announced as they walked back to meet with us.

Caleb nodded towards them, ” I guess we can attack now.”

“Yes.” Carlos stood still like he still had something to say. “Shouldn’t we let them know it’s us?”

“And have them run off? When we know we don’t want an actual fight?” Jason was the one who responded.

“Thank you so much, Jason. Please help tell him.” Caleb sneered towards Carlos more, and a bit side glared towards me.

I almost threw my hands up in surrender. Caleb would surely get a black eye from me one day soon. Signaling at Caleb, he nodded towards Carlos and Jason, who made signals to their men. Then, all from nowhere, trap nets began to fly around. Different howls of men rang all through the woods.

The intention is to incapacitate them. The area had been well surveyed; it’s totally a death sentence for whoever tries to run off. Watching about fifteen to twenty of them muddled in each net looked like an actual circus. There was no way they were getting an escape in such a compromising stance.

“Shall we?” Caleb asked me, motioning towards them.

My speech had eluded me, and their number had gotten me really perplexed. I was shocked at their large turnout. But the night howler’s pack is large, and I’m not so surprised that happens.

I almost asked Caleb what I was supposed to say to them. But knowing how crazy he is, he could give me a sarcastic comment that would have me spiraling. That young man was surely going to get it one day. Not just at this moment.

When the trapped men sighted us, the look on their faces was that of shock and pain. No doubt, it was the end of the road for them all.

“It’s so nice to see you all here.” Caleb smiled half-heartedly, a devilish smile.

One of them, whose mouth wasn’t trapped in someone’s a*s or armpit, was the first to speak. “H..how…cou….could….y…y…you bri….bring us down here with such a trick?” I wanted to assume he was a stammerer. But considering the smell of different asses and armpits in the net, there was no way one would be able to talk normally.

“I should ask you all why you decided to betray your home, all for a false protection,” I responded.

The same person was the one to speak again, ” what can a crippled Alpha do for us? All you ever did was sit on that wheelchair…..” Couldn’t believe he had finally found his voice. “…a whole alpha got his wife stolen from him, and she got pregnant with the same man. How does that speak well of you as a leader?” The other trapped men g*****d in response.

I felt the urge to pick up a piece of stone and throw it at him, but I don’t have anger issues. I wanted to show off badly by standing up from the wheelchair to let them know they were all saying trash.

However, I can’t sell myself short; there was a need for me to stay calm till the very end. So, looking away, I ignored their bants.

“Have them all locked up in the deepest part of the dungeon, and no one else, aside from us and the soldiers used today, should be aware,” I ordered Caleb.

Looking up into the beautiful morning sky, I saw it was almost morning.
