The Alpha's Exchanged Mate -
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 116
Edwina’s POV…
It felt like I would convulse if I didn’t get to sit and have some water. My b***d pressure was too high to curtail the details of my environment.
“Where is my sister?” I screamed out again, almost losing a step.
Becca was behind, luckily to hold me still.
“Calm down Luna. She is being attended to by the theta.”
Not listening to whatever she had to say, I wiggled myself out of her hold and barged into the room. Sonia laid down, looking so pale with a bandage wrapped around her right foot.
The theta was running a check on her, and sensing my presence, she turned to me.
Bowing lightly, she held a small smile. “Good day, dear Luna.” Seeing my eyes going back and forth between her and my sister, she smiled a bit wider.
“You don’t have to worry, Luna. It’s just a sprain; she would be fine. Might take a week or two.”
“How is the baby?” I asked, my heart in a panic mode.
“Very fine. Pubs are very strong and exhibit such traits right from the belly. And moreover, her wolf is quite sensitive at the moment and would protect the foetus. You don’t have to worry.”
Her assuring words felt like the most comforting statement I had ever heard in my entire life.
“Thank you very much,” I muttered, sitting next to my sister.
“She has been asleep for quite a while, would wake up soon. I will hand over some vitamins and foods she would need to eat at the moment for quick recovery. As soon as she wakes up, it would be nice to get her some citrus.”
“We would ensure to do all of that,” I nodded towards Becca to receive the list from her.
“Also, seems like she is having contractions. Which implies she is getting near to her delivery date and would need to be closely monitored.”
My heart picked up another violent pace at that, “what do you mean by contractions? Wouldn’t that require surgery?”
She laughed a little, “our ways of contraction as werewolves differ from that of humans. A pregnant she-wolf starts getting contractions about a month to her delivery date. And it is a painful and rigorous process that can harm the mother, but due to the presence of the mother’s wolf, she gets the strength to withstand it. It’s very unsafe for one without a wolf, like a mere human getting impregnated by a werewolf.”
I felt like a jab had been thrown towards me, but I ignored it. I had no intention of responding to such things anyway.
“Thank you very much for your help. Would get back to you.”
“Also, I realized she hadn’t been doing many checkups, which is why I added vitamins to her diet. I will be checking on her regularly from now on.”
I slapped my forehead at how forgetful I was. In the process of it all, it had never crossed my mind that Sonia needed a medical appointment due to her condition.
“I would appreciate you checking on her every chance you get. Thanks.”
“Have a nice day Luna.” The theta bowed, walking out with Becca behind her.
I massaged her free leg, my palpitating heart calming down. A string of aches rushed through my head as I tried to take a deep breath.
She looked so vulnerable, with her pretty face looking pale. I thought of how scared she must have been when she had the fall. The panic had sent the wrong signal to my brain, and my body had been quick to react to it.
The real question is, where did she fall from? It’s not like the room had hills and rocks in it. If her contractions are true, then I don’t know what I’m supposed to do to keep her safe.
Becca returned with a plate of small sliced fruits. Placing it gently by her bedside, she watched her closely.
“Do you think the contraction is going to be a problem to her safe delivery?” I asked Becca, trying to seek reassurance from someone else aside the theta that my sister would be fine.
Becca tightened her lips, “every she-wolf has to endure these things during pregnancy. It’s a hard process, but worth it in the end.”
I looked at her face again, “is that why she looks pale?”
“Yes.” Becca replied.
“I wish I c…..”
My sentence stopped mid-way when Sonia’s eyes fluttered, and she tried opening them to adjust to the light.
“What happened?” Her voice was coarse; she tried sitting up but was too weak to do so on her own.
I stood up to her side, helping her to rest on plopped pillows with the help of Becca.
“I should be asking you, Sonia. What the hell happened?” I asked, still feeling a bit on edge.
She blinked slowly, her hands rubbing at her belly. “How Is my baby?”
“Your child is fine Sonia.” I assured her
“I wanted to visit the bathroom when I had a contraction.” She explained, “It had been just a small abrupt pain at first, then it began to spread. I had screamed out for help, but there was no one nearby. The pain was so much, I began to pant, trying to hold myself up.”
“How is it that no one heard you?” I questioned.
“I don’t know; my voice must have been a bit muffled by the door. In my attempt to reach the door, I tripped over the table. The last thing I remembered was one of the cleaning maids screaming.”
The talk seemed to have exhausted her as she massaged her forehead. Noticing her discomfort, Becca handed her a pill that had been prescribed by the theta. Putting a water bottle in her hand to use it.
As she gulped hard on the content, Becca beckoned to me if I would like to feed Sonia the plate of fruit. I got the message and collected the plate from her. Sonia seemed hungry; she wasn’t a bit bothered that I was the one feeding her.
Just as she took the third bite, something struck my mind. “And where the hell is Athena?”
