The Alpha's Exchanged Mate -
The Alpha’s Exchanged Mate – Chapter 101
Edwina’s POV…
The first thing to note about Sonia is; she is extremely rude and condescending. Even if I was her younger sister, I’m still the Luna of the pack, and she needed to put some respect for my name. I had not seen her act grateful since I brought her back from the cell. She should be grateful to me for saving her from that hell hole and whatever illusion she had of her life being threatened.
Having her stand over me and talk to me, whichever way she liked, was making me very annoyed. I watched as Becca tried her hardest to keep a straight face. Sonia knew exactly what she was doing, trying to trigger my anger. But, the moon goddess had my mind sitting pretty, and I had no intention of getting angry. My day had been quite moody; it was unnecessary to add Sonia’s pettiness.
Seeing I wouldn’t budge, she eventually sat in front of me. Throwing me a death glare.
“Why the hell did you come here to disrupt my peace?” She threw at me.
I rolled my eyes, “can we both pretend to be deeply in love with each other for a few minutes?”
She shot me a dirty look, scoffing, “sassy now are we?”
I rubbed at my forehead again, “I didn’t come here for this. How are you?”
“As you can see, I’m doing really well. Also, should I say thanks for your generosity?” She jested
“You should.” I shot back, getting reeled
“Can you both stop with the jabs now?” Becca interrupted, obviously getting tired.
“And who the hell are you to interfere?” Sonia fired
“She is Becca, of course, and I am certain you are familiar with her,” I responded, holding out a cold stare contest with her, not backing out. I was getting tired of her constant bullying.
“What the hell do you need from me? I need you to leave; your presence is bothering my peace of mind.” She waved
“This is the last place I want to be too.” I told her, trying my hardest not to hiss bitterly.
I watched as she kept changing her position in the chair. Almost like she wasn’t comfortable.
“Is everything okay?” I asked, sincerely concerned.
“I’m fine.” She replied, rubbing at her belly, “she has just been making a lot of moves lately.”
I sat on the edge of the chair excitedly, “it’s a she?”
She shrugged, a prideful smile playing on her lips. “I feel it is.” Suddenly she looked up at me, “you want to feel it?”
Tears almost dropped down my face. That was never something I would have thought Sonia would let me in on. Seeing my hesitation, she rolled her eyes.
“Seems I shouldn’t have said that..”
“No, no…” I stopped her, going on my knees as I shifted towards her. Without warning, I placed my hands on her belly. It took a few seconds before I felt the movement. It felt strange and familiar at the same time. Sonia laid her hands on mine as we both felt the cubs’ movement. I had tears in my eyes.
“How was it?” Sonia asked, her eyes still lingering on her belly.
I forced myself to move away, returning to my seat. I felt envious of Sonia. She looked so much at peace; it made me want to have one of mine too. Maybe, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to talk it out with Xander.
Sonia cleared her throat. She had switched gears in just a few seconds. “So, why were you here again?”
I almost growled in a crude manner. Does this girl never get tired of letting her guard up? It was frustrating, but it didn’t surprise me.
“Well, I need your help.” I said
“Returning favors now, are we?” She taunted, sitting upright.
“This isn’t about favors, this is you playing your part to the safety of this pack.”
“What do you want to know?”
“How do we get to recognize the imposters amongst the guards and warriors?” I threw at her.
Sonia gave off no reaction. Her stare was point blank. She did know how to get on one’s nerves.
“Can you quit with the suspense already.” I stated.
She looked away, “they aren’t exactly imposters; they are wolves of night howlers who turned their backs on their own alpha.”
I panicked a bit at that. If that were the case, then we would have a whole lot of mess on our hands to deal with. Which implies we could get circled in no time.
“How do we recognize them?”
“To pledge their allegiance, Ben had made them undergo some sort of ritual that leaves a crescent like scar at the back of their necks.” She said.
“You sure about this?”
“And why would I lie about it?” She was throwing tantrums again.
Not wanting to go back and forth with her, I stood up. “We should leave now Becca.” Giving my sister another quick look, “please take care of yourself.”
I thought she was going to give back a snide comment, but she amazed me, smiling lightly. I almost barfed at the reaction.
“Is your sister bipolar?” Becca asked as we walked towards the exit.
“Sometimes I ask myself,” I replied, thinking for a moment. “I feel like we would need to carry out this mission on our own. I do not want to involve the alpha, to avoid him knowing of Sonia’s involvement. Can we trust Caleb?” I asked Becca.
“Yes we can, but I doubt if he can keep such thought to himself for too long.” She replied.
“I just needed for us to be sure Sonia isn’t playing with our heads. She is my sister, but I do know she can be very sneaky.”
Becca kept quiet, looking deep in thought. “I would talk to Carlos then. He should be able to help find out before we get to tell Caleb.”
I scrunched my face, “remind me who Carlos is again?”
Becca laughed lightly, “the omegas representative, he took Caleb’s place after he became the Beta.”
“Oh, I’m so sorry. Pardon my weak memory. You sure he would be of help?”
“Believe me, he can help us out.”
“Its all set then.” I clapped excitedly, feeling at ease that I could be useful. My only fear was really hoping Sonia didn’t lie to us. I might make her choke, and I’m not even playing.
