Chapter 84
Asher was still standing by the corner when Elizabeth looked back and saw him, immediately she felt uneasy.
“It’s okay, Elizabeth. Please don’t stop. I mean I can leave if you don’t want me here”
“What? No, no…don’t go. Just stay if you want to. I mean, I’m not stopping because of you. He is already asleep and want to place him back in his cradle”
Asher place the duffel bag he came with among her other belongings in the room before walking to her bed side.
He leaned towards them, a nervous smile on his face. “Let me carry him. You don’t have to get up” He offered and she nodded before she kissed him softly on the forehead before giving him to Asher.
Asher moved just as carefully, taking little steps towards his cradle before placing him delicately into it.
“You are acting as if he is going to fall off and break” Elizabeth teased with a chuckle.
Asher let out a shaky breath, running his fingers through his hair and messing it all up again.
“He is so small and fragile and whenever I carry him, I feel like I’m going to drop him”
Elizabeth only shook her head at him.
Asher couldn’t help but stare at her, the sound of her laughter ringing in his ears like he was just listening to her laugh for the first time. Elizabeth noticed the confusion in his eyes and quickly stopped.
He quickly covered the distance between them again as he stood staring at her. Elizabeth felt heated under his gaze, not exactly sure why he was looking at her like that.
“I’m sorry, Elizabeth. I know sorry means nothing at this point after everything that I did and said to you but if there is any word bigger than sorry, I would have said it. I’m not saying all this for you to see me different but I just wanted you to know I react my actions and if I could do anything to change it then I would”
Elizabeth simply nodded.
“You can start by letting me go, Asher. I don’t belong here. I want my freedom. I want to go back home. With my son” She said firmly, her eyes darting to settle on the boy.
“No, I can’t”
Her eyes narrowed, “You can’t or you won’t”
“You don’t understand, Elizabeth. You think everything is as easy as you think? You can’t just walk away from all of this as if none of it ever happened. Things don’t work like that”
Elizabeth gave a careless shrug, “I don’t care how there work. Same way you snatched me away from everything, you can also put me back. It shouldn’t be too hard for a ruthless Alpha like you, don’t you think?” she said just as sternly. Her voice devoid of any emotion.
Asher tried to take her hand but she moved them away from his reach before wrapping them across her chest.
“Listen. Things are a lot more complicated now than you know and I know you don’t like and that’s okay. I’m not asking you to. I just need you to trust me on this one for the safe of your safety and that of the child. You will stay here”
Her face went from passive to mortified pretty quickly before she burst out laughing and Asher let out a sigh. He didn’t think what he had just said is funny but Elizabeth seem to think it’s hilarious.
“Did I hear you say, Safety of the baby? What baby Asher? Last time I checked, you didn’t care whether he was going to live or not and now you care about him?”
Asher stood with clenched fist with an equally clenched jawline but his anger wasn’t directed at her. No, his anger was more at himself than anyone else. He knew he already crossed too many lines with her and now he doubt he can’t mend them with just word.
“Look, I know did and said a lot of awful things to you and truly I regretted all of it. I wish I can take them back but I can’t. I didn’t care about a child that was about to be born to me because I was still grieving over the one I had lost the day your father took my wife from me but that’s not even an excuse. I’m just saying, we started off on the wrong foot and maybe instead of dwelling on the past hurt, maybe we can do something about the present to have a better future”.
“Started off on the wrong foot you say? You f*****g raped me, Asher. Had food thrown at me not to mention, whip on the back until I passed out to say the least and all you can tell me is that we started off on the wrong foot?” Elizabeth sneered at him, her heart rate starting to pulse in her throat in anger.
“I thought you were a f*****g hunter like your father. I really thought that you were and was just trying to throw me off by faking your innocence and whatever I did? I did it to prove that you weren’t ad good as you wanted me to believe” Asher growled back, his own anger evident as they both stared each other down.
Elizabeth looked more fierce than he had ever seen and Asher was starting to get even more furious by the second before she looked away and he paused in his anger, peering into her features hesitantly.
“You don’t understand how dangerous your bloodline is, Elizabeth. You really have no f*****g idea”
The rage surging through her had reduced to nothing but a deep frown cresting her face as she continued to stare down at her clasped hand on her laps.
“You’re right” She began, looking up at him.
“I never knew my father was involved with hunting down supernatural creatures until you had me kidnapped”
Asher let out a short chuckle that rumble deep from his chest.
“Your kind have killed off majority of mine than any of us can count. And if the table we turned at that point between you and me? I bet you would have had a bullet to my head without even a second thought”
Another moment of silence washed over them as Elizabeth sat staring out the window. Asher can tell she was thinking about everything he had said.
“she was going to have a child before she died?”
Asher nodded, “I found out the same morning she died”
“I’m sorry about what happened to her even though I had nothing to do with it. No one deserve to die like that”
“I know, no need to apologize”
Elizabeth nodded.
“Now what? What’s going to happen?”
Asher inhaled deeply before expelling through his mouth, “Nothing is going to happen. You are not getting killed for someone else crime. I just need you to trust me to make it happen, Okay?”
“Okay” She said with a nod.
**
It was dark into the night already and when Elizabeth stirred in her sleep, she didn’t expect to find Asher still seating by corner in the room. His head was hanging uncomfortably on the chair and she immediately knew, he was going to have aches around his neck when he wakes up.
“Asher? Asher wake up” She called at him before he spring back on his feet, looking more alert than ever as his eyes began to dart around and then soften when he found her staring at him.
“Hey, are you okay?”
She nodded. “I’m fine. You can go home and rest, I mean, you don’t look very comfortable in that chair”
Asher twisted his neck to the side and cracking sounds were heard, causing her to gasp. He chuckled at her reaction and she frown.
“You are too naïve. It’s nothing. I’m fine but if you really want me to chill then you can adjust a bit for me to sleep on your bed. I always let you sleep in mine” Asher said with a pout and Elizabeth tried not to laugh.
“I don’t think Eva is going to appreciate that” She said sounding skeptical.
“Maybe she will, maybe she won’t”
“Alright” Elizabeth agreed with a nod and without warning, Asher was cradling her on the bed. Elizabeth wanted to protest but instead, found herself snuggling into his warmth.
Asher always felt warm and cozy like a thick blanket and even though she doesn’t like him, sleeping next to him always felt great and she’d be lying if she said she hasn’t missed it.
“Good night, Beth” Asher said with his eyes closed and her mouth hung open before she snapped it shut.
“Good night, Asher”
All that followed was deep silence and it wasn’t long before little snores start to erupt his parted lips.
Morning came faster than they had both thought or was it the sound of something else that woke Asher first as he quickly jumped off the tiny bed that barely fit both of them and startling Elizabeth out of her slumber as well.
There was a loud sounding coming from the near distance. Its sounded more like a trumpet being blown and Elizabeth could only wonder what could be going on.
“It’s can’t be” Asher cursed under his breath as he rushed over to the window and stared outside towards the sound that is now accompanied by singing.
“What is going on?”
“Everyone knows” He simply.
Her brows furrowed in confusion.
“Knows about what? I don’t understand.
“Everyone knows you have given birth, hence the jubilation in the camp”
“But how did they find out?”
