Chapter 76
As the weeks went by, one after the other, Elizabeth’s friends went into labor. Now, she had seen first hand how they went into labor and it was scary to think she would undergo the same pain as well.
She didn’t know what to expect before but now she does. She wished with all her heart that when it came to her turn, it would be painless but then again, she can only truly wish.
The first friend she had made, Alana fell into labor the previous day. It was a long one and Beth feared that her friend wouldn’t be able to pull through but she did and when she did, she brought along a beautiful baby girl. Her name was Sally and she asked if she could hold her and she said yes and so she did.
Holding Sally in her arms was the most beautiful feeling she could have ever imagined of having. She was so fragile and precious and at that moment, she knew she and her unborn child must leave there alive and it doesn’t matter who she would have to put down but she will.
She desperately wished she could just run away and be free, free from Asher and the council of elders endless demands for her to be killed. But Elizabeth knew that she couldn’t do that without putting herself and child at risk.
Now that Alana had returned back to her people, Elizabeth was a bit lonely. But she didn’t have to worry about that because just as they put to bed and left, other women were brought in.
As Elizabeth’s due date approaches, she couldn’t help the nervousness she felt within her and to reduce this, she busied herself with helping other women. This helped a lot but she couldn’t deny it that the nervousness was still there. It was like a steady reminder to her that there was a life living in her that would come into the world soon.
“It’s going to be soon, I can feel it in my gut” Elizabeth said quietly one afternoon and Eva smiled reassuringly at her.
“I will be right here to guide you when it does”
“Okay” She answered with a nod.
That conversation had been a few days ago but it was still fresh in her memory. As she focused on helping the other women, Elizabeth forgot all about Asher and the council of elders whose major aim was to kill her.
One night, as she slept soundly, Elizabeth cried out in pain, holding on to her stomach. Tears streamed down her eyes as she tried to understand what was truly going on.
The pain was unlike anything she had ever seen before. It was severe and very traumatic and she knew it was time.
Elizabeth let out another cry into the night when hit by another wave of contraction. She looked down to realize her water had just broke. One of the guards must have heard her screaming, came barging in on high alert but stopped when he saw the state she was in.
“What do you need?”
Elizabeth g*****d, “Get Eva. Tell her it’s time”
He gave a small knock before disappearing out the door.
She remembered Eva instructions and began to take deep calming breath even though it wasn’t exactly as calming. The pain was coming in waves and quick succession a
It won’t be long before the baby finds it way out.
She quickly dragged herself to rest against the wall with clenched fist while she await Eva’s return.
Meanwhile….
Back in his room, Asher found it difficult to sleep because his wolf was restless which left him anxious. Anytime his wolf behaved in this manner, Asher knew that trouble couldn’t be that far. He had felt the sensation before, it was like a sense of foreboding anytime something terrible is about to happen.
It just seemed like a sense of deja vu all over again, it seemed like he was relieving some memories again. This feeling, this sense of restlessness was everything he felt when his late wife died. At that point, he knew that something was happening but he couldn’t place a finger on it until he got the terrible news that she had died.
Asher was crushed to say the least and the only thing that kept him sane was his devotion to his duty and Alex who encouraged him every minute of the day. For days, he didn’t blink an eye, talk more of eating. How could he when every time he tried sleeping, the image of his dead wife and her b***d soaked gown came to his mind.
That was a memory that he would never forget. It was a part of him, something that is already imprinted into his mind forever. Sometimes, he liked to call it a punishment, his punishment for not saving her when he should have done something.
If he had the power to turn back the hands of time to change some of the things that happened that fateful day, he would gladly do that. Sometimes, he missed her and wished she was there with him but she wasn’t and things have never being the same.
His fate and destiny was tied to Elizabeth and the baby in her womb. In fact, the whole pack destiny was tied to the success of her delivering and if anything were to ever happen to the child, Asher knew his people would be on the road to extinction.
Asher searched through his mind to see if he could find anything but every of his thoughts led back to one thing or rather, one name…Elizabeth.
Asher was very sure within him that there was something going on with her that he couldn’t quite understand.
“Is she due already?” He wondered out loud as he start to pace, his heart going through an overdrive.
No matter how he tried to sit still, he couldn’t because his heart was not at rest. He made his way towards his window, peeping outside which was all in a bid to ease his anxious heart but it wasn’t helping either.
His anxiousness was still there and it was running so high he couldn’t stop it. His train of thoughts always led him back to Elizabeth. He could bet with his life that there was definitely something going on with her.
Asher decided to call Eva and find out if Beth was okay when the last person he expected to see walked in albeit with a small frown on her face. Kara.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Asher barked.
Kara had the mind to look guilty as she stared back at him with a look of hurt in her eyes. Asher didn’t know if what she was doing was real or it was one of her sick games. He had known Kara to be a very sly person when it comes to dealing with emotions. She wasn’t a straight forward person, that much he knew.
In fact, Asher regarded her as a hypocrite. She was always fond of saying something and going to do another thing entirely. It was sickening, the way she toyed with ones emotions.
He was beyond convinced now that she had no human feelings within her. If she did, she would never have done any of the things she did. Asher knew he was at fault in most of the things they did. He shouldn’t have even gone to her in the first place knowing fully well it was what she wanted.
“I asked you a question Kara, what the hell are you doing here?” Asher growl once again and she flinch.
“I’m sorry” Kara said.
There was a look of regret in her eyes that Asher found hard to believe. Was she really apologizing to him? Did she really think that a measly apology such as this would fix what was broken? If she really thought that could help then she was dumber than he thought.
“Get out” Asher barked.
He didn’t want to listen to anything she had to say. She had hurt him badly, hurt the woman she loved and damaged his relationship and she really thought that it could be solved by a mere apology.
“Asher please, i’m really sorry” She said again and walked up to him, grabbing his hands all in a bid to seek his forgiveness. Asher didn’t even spare her a glance, instead he shove her away from him and she crumbled to the floor.
Asher spared her a glance and what he saw in her heart moved him a bit. There were unshed tears clogged in her eyes that weren’t there before. She looked helpless just by staring at him and he had a feeling that she was telling the truth.
Asher didn’t want to accept her pleas and at the end had to go back to the way he was before or even worse. As he thought about it, he realized that maybe it was best for him to use her to calm his emotions which were all over the place. If she was offering herself to him so cheaply, who was he to deny himself of that.
Kara wanted him, that much he knew and what she did now was all in a bid to get closer to him. Now that Elizabeth wasn’t here and probably doesn’t care and Kara doesn’t.
Asher stared at her, like really stared at her and all he saw was the same old Kara dressed in less than nothing. Her nipple were erect and staring him in the face.
She was here to offer him her body, not apologize and maybe he needed what she was offering.
“Get up” Asher ordered sternly as he took a step closer.
“You came here to be f****d and you’re going to get f****d” Asher said darkly.
