Scene 61

I get out of the covers, quickly make up my bed and hop into the shower. I put on some moving music and sing as I wash. Yesterday, after rescuing Liam and Hayden, we all went to the restaurant together and I even ignored Theo to have a good time with my friends. I really want the days to get better, so no more panic, just resolutions to our problems. Tonight I’m even going to the city tunnels with Allison because, according to Corey, the doctors drove her there.

I get out of the shower and put on a blue dress with leggings and a jacket to keep out the cold. I plait my hair and apply mascara to finish it off. I look at myself. I love having a frank smile on my lips.

I go outside, hop downstairs and join my brother at the table, who looks at me with a smile.

Scott: Good mood? You are? In the morning?

He pulls out my phone and takes a picture of me.

Me: Hey!

Scott: I’m sorry, but that’s an ultra-rare thing to do! I had to do it or humanity wouldn’t forgive me!

I stick my tongue out at him and eat my bowl of cereal

[Stiles: I’m here!] [Me: I’m coming!]

I put my bowl in the dishwasher and pull on my boots before running to meet Stiles in his jeep. I k**s him then strap myself in

Stiles: You look beautiful!

Me: Thanks Stiles!

I k**s him again and he drives off towards the sideboard.

Dinner

Kira’s katana falls to the ground

Me: Stop being scared!

I help Kira fight. Scott told me that she’s scared of her fox, so I think she needs to stop being scared of it so she can get better and stop losing control.

Kira: I’m trying! I don’t want to hurt you!

Me: You won’t hurt me! I heal in less than a second!

I throw her her weapon and we get back into the fight. Instead of attacking, she protects herself and that’s no good. She’d lose to a chimera. I’ve got to motivate her. I drop her weapon for the umpteenth time.

Me: We’re changing methods. I’m going to stop sparing you. Now if I can hurt you, I will.

Of course I wouldn’t hurt her seriously, but I have to provoke her.

We start the fight again and I cut her arm, which obviously heals but she’s in pain. After about ten times, she gets angry. Her eyes start to shine and she becomes more violent. She pulls me back with her blows and shouts out words in Japanese. Suddenly I’m afraid of Kira. Her fox glows around her. It’s huge! My katana falls to the ground. I try to trip her but she jumps first and was going to kill me but she falls to the ground, unconscious. I start breathing again. My forehead is covered in sweat, which I wipe off. I’ve told Allison and Scott to come and hide in case there’s a moment like this.

They come out of hiding and Allison helps me up while Scott goes to see Kira. Allison looks at my brother for a moment, lost in thought, then comes back to me.

Allison: Is everything okay?

Me: I’m… yeah. I’m fine.

No more problems, I said.

Allison: What are we going to do?

I look at her katana and take it. I was going to break it but no. Kira has to do it. She comes back to us and looks at me

Kira: What happened?

Me: Your fox nearly killed me and Allison sent you an arrow loaded with endorphins.

I hand him his weapon.

Me: You should break it. Time to find out what’s wrong and how to fix it.

She looks at him.

Kira: I can’t… if… if a chimera attacks… I’ll find a solution… sorry for what I did to you Hannah.

It’s her choice. I smile weakly at her and we go back to the Bahut. Dinner is over. And unfortunately, my overflowing good humour has gone back on holiday.

In the evening

Exhausted is the word that describes me again. I’ve cancelled the search with Allison. We’ll postpone it until tomorrow. I walk through the door of the house. I was about to go up to my room but I hear people talking in the kitchen. Strange.

I step forward. It’s Scott and Allison. She’s crying. My inquisitive nature makes me hide to hear them.

Scott: Alli… what’s going on?

He goes to hug her but she pushes him away violently.

Allison: F*****g Scott! Don’t you understand that I love you?!

Scott: What?! Scott has the same expression as me… completely lost.

Allison: I never stopped loving you! I thought we were going to get back together after the battle with the Onis but… you had Kira..

Scott: But… Isaac…

Isaac. Dating Allison. He left after that battle with the Oni to join family.

Allison: I never liked Isaac. He’s… he’s nothing.

Scott’s phone buzzes. It’s Kira. Allison cries some more

Allison: I’m… I’m sorry, Scott… forget I told you… I’m sorry.

She heads for the door. I teleport away so she doesn’t see me.

Scott: Allison, I…

Allison: Just… I just… I needed to tell you… I’ll… I’ll get over it… I’m sorry… Bye Scott…

She walks out the door, wiping her eyes. Scott stares at the door. I come out of hiding and tap his shoulder. He jumps up and looks at me. His eyes are full of tears. It hurts to see him like this. I wrap my arms around his neck to force him to hug me. I can hear him sniffing back tears.

Scott: I’d managed to forget him. Forget the love that was breaking my insides. To love someone other than her. No longer melting when she smiled. No longer having my heart squeeze when she talks to someone else. No longer dreaming of having her against me…. Lately… we’ve often been together… in the forest… when we were watching you… her arm brushed mine… I got an electric shock but I ignored my heart because I love Kira too… And now… What do I do now?

He peels himself away and looks at his tattoo

Scott: I did it because… when we split up, I wanted to call her every day. To hear her voice and tell her I loved her, but I didn’t. Because she asked me to. Because she asked me to because she had family problems and now… I tell myself that I should so have done it…

My eyes water at his words.

Scott: I need to be alone tonight

I nod and hug him one last time before he goes upstairs.

I pick up my phone. Kira has called me. I listen to her message

Kira: Hi Hannah. I had to tell you that I’m going away for a while. My mum thinks she’s found some people who can help me. Take care of Scott for me and… keep that good mood you had this morning. The pack needs someone like you…

No… no! Not this! Kira’s leaving! No! I locate her and teleport to her location. She’s from the back and is filling up with petrol.

Me: Kira!

She turns around. I run to her and hug her.

Me: I don’t want you to leave. We all need you too. Scott needs you!

Kira: I’ll be back Hannah

Me: Promise?

The pack mustn’t split up. Our super pack!

Kira: I promise… don’t worry.

We take off and I smile at her

Me: Take care of yourself. We need you.

She nods and we part. I teleport home and enter Scott’s room. He’s sitting on his bed looking at his phone.

Scott: Kira… is she gone?

Me: Yes.

I sit down next to him.

Me: But she’ll be back.

He nods.

Scott: It’s… she has to get better…

I nod back and put my head on his shoulder. We lie down in his bed and I fall asleep at the same time as he does.
