Scene 16

Me: What do you mean Liam was kidnapped?

Scott: Garrett ran Liam over with his car and put him somewhere after hurting him/ Oh my god! He’s in the forest!

Me: What? How do you know that?

Scott: He roared! Where are you right now?

Me: I’m at home. How can I help you?

Scott: Go into the forest and look for him. I’ll be there soon, it’s near the running track.

Me: OK, I’m going!

I hang up the phone, grab my crossbow and run to the forest.

I’ve been looking for him for ten minutes but he’s nowhere to be found. I sit down on an old well and call Scott.

-Hey! Help me!

I jump to my feet. Liam!

Me: Liam! Liam: Where are you!

Liam: In the well!

I look in the well. He’s there climbing up the wall. I call Scott and put him on speakerphone.

Me: I’ve found him. He’s in the old well at the end of the running path. Hurry up!

Liam screams. He’s going to fall! I reach out my hand and he grabs it.

Me: Hold on! Scott’s coming!

I hold him as best I can but he’s really heavy and I have a feeling I won’t be able to hold him much longer.

Me: Hold on!

His arm slips from mine but I hold on as best I can.

Me: Aren’t you supposed to be a werewolf?!!? Use your f*****g powers!

His eyes shine but it doesn’t change anything. I see his claws come out. Without thinking, I dig his claws into my skin so he can hold on better and I scream in pain.

• I’m over here!

Scott! He grabs Liam and pulls him out of the pit. I look down at my arm. I’ve got big deep claw marks.

Scott: Hannah!

He takes off his jacket and puts it on my arm to stop the bleeding.

Scott: Liam’s hurt. I have to take him to Deaton’s. Can you manage? Mum’s at home, she’ll be able to look after you.

I nod and hold him close. I’m about to leave but Liam stops me.

Liam: T…thanks Ha…Hannah

Me: No problem. Get well soon.

We smile at each other and I walk home. I give myself a simple bandage before taking a shower and going to bed. This day has been far too eventful!

Two days later

Me: Where’s Lydia anyway?

Allison: She had the exam another day.

Me: So I could take it next time! Why didn’t you tell me!

We’re standing in front of our classroom waiting for someone to let us in to do an exam that could get us a scholarship to a prestigious school. Needless to say, I’m really stressed!

Stiles: Hannah, you’ve worked harder than us for this exam, stop stressing!

Kira: Shouldn’t we be worrying about all these hit men? Even if the orphans are dead, there must be others.

Scott: Of course, but right now we have to do this test. Even if we’re fighting to protect our town, we still have to think about our future.

Me: You’re right. Can we go now?

Stiles: I thought you didn’t want to do it.

Me: I certainly don’t want to do it another day on my own without werewolves and huntresses to protect me from those hired killers!

They smile and we go in. A teacher takes our fingerprints and Lydia’s mother puts our phones in bags. I sit down and take a deep breath to calm down. Stiles sits at the desk next to mine. His hair is full of pencils. I laugh. He looks at me. He even holds one in his mouth. I laugh even harder.

Stiles: Will you stop laughing at me, Miss McCall?

Me: Not while you’ve got all these pencils in your hair, Stilinski.

He makes a face at me and the teacher tells us to stop talking. I whisper to him:

Me: Thank you.

Stiles: For what?

Me: For making me relax.

He smiles gently at me and we start the exam.

20 minutes later

It’s actually quite easy/ I see Sydney looking pale. She suddenly falls to the floor. Everyone turns around and Natalie, Lydia’s mother, goes over to her and helps her up.

Natalie: You’re going to/ How long have you had this?

There are large red patches on her arm. Sydney panics.

Sydney: I… I don’t know.

Natalie lets go of Sydney and steps back towards the door. What the hell is going on?

Natalie: Everyone stay where you are… I’ll be right back.

She runs out of the room. I turn to Stiles, who’s making the same face as me.

Me: Do you understand anything?

Scott comes to see us.

Scott: She’s calling the poison control centre…
