Sky's Rejection
Sky’s Rejection Chapter 62

(Dimitri’s POV)

I slide out of the bed and tuck the blankets tightly around Sky, trying to prevent waking her up. I watch as she snuggles her face into the pillow as a satisfying sigh leaves her sweet lips.

‘Go back to bed with mate.’ Demon whined in annoyance. I know my racing mind has woken him up and I don’t want my thoughts waking Sky up when she needs sleep for our pup. Demon grumbles but doesn’t make another comment as he hears my thoughts. His mate and pups’ wellbeing are more important than his wants right now. I soak myself under a hot shower, watching the steam float around my body, filling the bathroom.

No matter what I try, I just can’t shake what the Goddess said. I have so many unanswered questions and I don’t need to be stressing Sky out with them. There have never been twin pups before, or of any species for that matter. So, why now, out of the blue? Will two babies be able to survive together? Who will give birth to these pups and how will we be able to help prepare them when we don’t know them?

‘There was never a hybrid of two species before our mate either. We have our own pup to worry about right now though.’ Demon comments.

He’s right. Sky is the first of her kind. What will be so special about these twins though? If we don’t find them, will the outcome be a disaster? What kind of war is upon us? Demon is right and we need to be worried about our pup, but I need to also protect our species and the others for that matter.

I walk out of the room quietly as I make my way down the hall. I need to clear my mind and inspect every aspect from different points.

‘Let’s go for a run.’ Demon suggests as he listens in on my thoughts. That’s a great idea buddy.

I start heading towards our pack house exit, wanting to feel free in the woods. This is the perfect way for Demon and me to decompress. Before I can reach the exit, my hearing picks up a conversation coming towards the gathering room.

Who is up at this time? It’s so early.

I slowed my steps as I tapped into the conversation. Trying to determine who is awake at this hour. I have never had to deal with activity around the pack house at this hour. With everyone needing to be respectful to the pups and expecting mother’s sleep. Knowing our mate is one of those now, makes Demon jump in the front of my mind with me, getting his defense ready.

“How is it possible Sky could be pregnant? Do you think the vampire king did something to her?” Father spoke. Who was he talking with? He has never been one to disturb the sleeping pack mates unless there was an attack forming on their lives.

“I didn’t witness him doing anything to her. Plus, you can only get pregnant by your mate, right?” Diane questioned more to herself.

What are they suggesting? That the pup isn’t mine? No one has ever heard of any species being able to get pregnant from anyone but their own mate. She is the first ever hybrid though. Would the Goddess play a joke that cruel on Sky and myself?

‘That’s not possible.’ Demon growled in annoyance. I could feel his irritation growing after listening to my thoughts. I need to stop letting them wander while Demon is listening. He is already on edge from becoming extra protective of our mate now that she is carrying our pup as well. Everything is alright buddy; I believe fully that the pup is ours.

“She was at least two months along. I wouldn’t say she has more than two or three months left. It has to be Dimitri’s pup. I have never heard of non-mates having babies anyways.” Dean commented with certainty. His comment put Demon and me at ease. I couldn’t believe everyone is up discussing my pup.

Who else could be in there? Why are they talking about this without me? So far, I know that mother, father, Dean and Diane were present, but I feel others.

“I do not care the reason why the Goddess decided to grant this. I care that I will be having a grand pup and future Alpha to the throne. Should we not all be happy about that?” Mother said with excitement.

‘See, she is focused on our pup.’ Demon comments. Though no one else knows about what the Goddess has said to us. We cannot even tell them until the oracle makes the prophecy public. I am not even sure what the Goddess meant by how little she allowed to be told. It baffles me to think the Goddess needs us to groom these twins who may or may not be more powerful than Sky while also raising our own pup. That way a war doesn’t completely extinguish the existence of all of us with minimal information to go by.

“Yes, I have to agree with Former Queen Samantha. We should be focusing on being a support system for Sky and Dimitri through their pregnancy and then watching out for the new little Alpha King. We need to be responsible by trying to keep the stress and royal pack business to a minimum for them as they figure their way through this new journey of theirs.” Ty says formally. He always guides everyone in the right direction. I should stop listening and get my family and friends off to bed. Right now, we have a big day tomorrow. Between announcing the new pup to the pack, bringing Mark and Ariel home with their new pup and ruffling through the pack threats. I need them to concentrate in an appropriate manner.

I walk into the room as I begin speaking in an authoritative tone, “I am not sure what all six of you are doing up at this hour but all of you know the rules. We do not disturb the sleeping pack unless there is an immediate threat. As you are all up though I will announce we will be having a six o’clock meeting in my office. I want all of you there and then as soon as we have completed what is necessary, we will be helping Mark and Ariel bring the pup home. Do I make myself clear?”

“All of us?” Mother asked in confusion. She usually doesn’t get involved with anything other than parties, but I need all the people I have to get or tasks complete. I know I should focus on Sky and our pup, but I know she will be focused on what the Goddess has told us as well. We will just manage our time well together as I delegate my responsibilities for a month or two. I trust these six, Mark and Ariel with the pack, Kingdom, Mate and lives.

“Yes, everyone other than Mark and Ariel are to be there. I expect no one to be late. Next time you will all think twice about staying up until two thirty in the morning talking about Goddess knows what.” I stated in a no-nonsense tone. I need them to realize how serious I am. I could feel Demon pushing out our aura as he thinks about the possibility, they could have awoken our mate.

“Yes Alpha.” Ty, Dean and Diane say in unison as they walk out of the room with their heads bowed. I know Ty does it out of respect, but I feel it’s wrong to see my mate’s father figure doing that towards me. I want to say something but catch myself before I can. This is something I should talk to him in private about and not in front of everyone. I will have to remember this is a discussion I will need to have with him.

Sky’s brother nods in acknowledgement as he scurries out of the room behind Dean. He still seems skittish, and I am starting to wonder if it’s because he thinks Sky, or someone here still holds a grudge against him or if he could be plotting against his sister still.

‘We will keep our eye on him. Let’s find our trusty blending guard and keep a tail on him.’ Demon suggests and I can’t say I hate his idea. I am tempted but I also don’t want Sky to be upset with us. I will have to think this one through.

“We will be there in the morning, son. Well, later this morning.” He chuckled slightly as his own corny comment. “I understand you had to make your point but next time try to control your aura just a little. Your mother and I are not as strong as we used to be. Your aura can knock us to our knees without you even trying.” Father stated as I saw the pride swirling in his eyes. I knew he would have done the same thing. He patted me on the shoulder as he walked out of the room.

Behind him mother wrapped me in a hug, whispering, “Take care of your mate and pup. I will see you in the morning Dimitri. I love you.” As she released me from her hold, I saw a single tear leave her eye. It bypassed her cheek, falling straight to the ground. It sounded like a pin dropping in a silent room as I watched my mother exit behind my father. Why did that feel like a goodbye? Does she know something I don’t?

Do you still want to go for a run Demon? I asked in my thoughts as my mind kept re-playing my mother’s words. Why did I feel like something was going to happen? Why did it feel like I would never see her again?

‘No, I want mate. Go back to mate. What is happening around us?’ Demon whined, I could feel how confused, frustrated and scared he was. I agree with Demon, I need my mate right now.

I don’t know what my mother meant, but it felt as if her words were a warning. It felt as if she said her final words in a cryptic way. Why did she speak that way? Am I over reading this?

I walk back into my room, as I climb into bed. I need to be close to Sky right now. Maybe I should wake her and see if she thinks what mother said was suspicious as well.

‘Do not wake our mate. She is carrying pup.’ Demon growls in protectiveness, as if he needs to protect her from me as well. Seriously Demon, just because she is pregnant, does not mean she can’t be involved with the issues at hand.

‘She can be involved with issues, after sleep.’ Demon demands and I honestly just don’t have the energy to argue with him right now. I want to talk to Sky about this, but I just hope it can wait till morning.

I hope you are right Demon.
