“Are you OK?” Emily questioned. I put my hand to my head and looked around before heaving a sigh and nodding my head slowly.

“Are you sure? You were turning a lot and I got scared. Are you really fine? Would you rather have a word with her Highness or the queen mother instead?” Emily asked further, looking genuinely worried.

I thought about it carefully and shook her head no. I didn’t want to bother any of them anymore with my problems, they had already done enough for me.

Besides, telling them would not do anything for me, it wouldn’t take away the nightmares, it would only increase their anger towards Zephyr and as I said before, I don’t want to be the reason for a war, I only want peace.

Emily understood and didn’t ask further. “Alright. Please get ready quickly, breakfast will be ready soon and I’m sure everyone will be expecting you at the table.” Emily said while she drew up the curtains and sunlight washed into the room.

I sat up properly and made to get out of bed but I sat back down quickly because my vision blurred with dizziness.

Emily rushed to me once more. ” Are you sure you’re alright?” Emily questioned and I nodded.

I got up once more and went for my wardrobe. I opened it to see that all my clothes had been arranged beautifully and orderly on hangers.

I looked to Emily with a smile and mumbled a silent thank you and she smiled back and nodded.

I took out a red skater dress and went for some undies as well.

By the time I was doing selecting the clothes I wanted to wear, Emily was gone. I headed for the bathroom and brushed my teeth before taking a quick bath, I didn’t want to be late for breakfast like I had dinner.

I put on my clothes and suspended my hair up in a ponytail. When I was sure I looked just fine, I grabbed my notebook and pen and left my room to head for the dining area.

I don’t know how it happened but I suddenly felt dizzy once more and bumped into someone who caught me instantly and prevented me from falling.

I looked up to see that it was Kayden and somehow, I’m not surprised.

He helped me up to my feet. ” You should be a little more careful dear Evelyn, you could have fallen just now. Although I’ll try my best, I won’t always be there to save you.” He said and I rolled my eyes, his pick up lines were definitely the worse I’ve ever heard, not that I’d heard any before but whatever.

I curtseyed a little, suggestively thanking him and he grabbed a hold of my hand. While I was still in shock by his actions, he bent down and picked up my pen and paper that had slipped from my hand during the collision.

He handed them to me, whilst still holding my left hand. “You’re really looking so beautiful today Evelyn, and I wouldn’t be able to forgive myself if I let anything happen to you so I’ll walk you to the dining room. Do I have your permission?” He questioned and I found myself smiling.

Though I found him to be a bit goofy at first, he’s starting to prove that he’s a real gentleman, he’s even asking my permission to escort me to the dining room when I was only used to being dragged around.

I nodded and we walked together towards the dinning. I honestly couldn’t help but wonder what was going on with me lately. I was being so clumsy and it was strange because I was usually the careful type of person Zephyr had taught me to be.

We arrived soon and everyone acknowledged my presence with a greeting, I answered back with a small bow and a nod.

Ana asked how I had spent my night and I wrote to her that it had been fine. I asked about hers and she said that she had been barely able to sleep because she hadn’t gotten used to the change of environment yet.

Elsie said that it would only get better with time, the most important concern shouldn’t be where we sleep, it should be that we’re close to our loved ones. Alpha Richard agreed and we all sat for breakfast and unlike the previous day, I found myself eating more than I usually would. I attributed it to the fact that the food was absolutely mind-blowing.

Everyone left the dining room while I stayed so I could help Emily with the dishes. She refused, saying that Elsie would be upset if she found out but I wouldn’t take no for an answer. I had already concluded that I couldn’t keep living the rest of my life without working. Working was something that has become a part of me and though I wouldn’t want to do anything too strenuous, I just had to have something to do or I would become lazy.

Emily finally gave in to my request after seeing that I would not give up.

I followed her to the kitchen and I was stupefied at how huge and beautiful it was. It was five times bigger than the kitchen in my former pack and it somehow felt more homely.

I quickly helped Emily with the dishes and returned back to my room. I sat down and quickly got bored, I hated just having to sit idle. If I wouldn’t be allowed to do any work, I should at least be able to read something since that has been my favorite hobby since childhood.

Though I’ve been deprived of my education for two years, I’ve never stopped reading. After finishing all my work, I would usually read. While cleaning the rooms of the other pack members, I would find books that they wanted to dispose of and instead of throwing them away, I would keep them and during the little spare time I had each day before Zephyr would show up to beat me up, I would read so that I could keep refreshing my knowledge each day.

This helped to supplement my lack of formal education. I decided to find out from Elsie if she had some books I could borrow. I stepped out of my room and luckily, I saw Elsie seemingly passing by with some maids behind her.

She stopped when she saw me.

“Evelyn, do you have a problem?” She questioned as she approached me. I realized that I hadn’t brought my jotterpad with me so I signed to her that I needed to read a book.

She ordered one of the maids to take me to the library and I followed the maid until we got to a room.

She opened the door to the room and I was left stunned. I had never seen a room so full of books. The walls of the room were lined with huge shelves and the shelves were filled with different books! I would never be able to finish reading all these books even if I tried for a lifetime and for me, this was pure heaven.

The maid directed me to sit either on the loveseat or a chair that had a reading table. I went for the chair with the reading table because it would be a lot more comfortable.

She asked me which genre of books I would like to read and I signed to her that I would like to read romance books.

The maid didn’t seem to understand at first but after several attempts, she finally understood and climbed up a ladder that was placed by the shelves. She picked out several books and asked me to choose from them.

I decided I would only read four today, starting with Romeo and Juliet.

She asked if I needed anything else and I shook her head in the negative.

She said that she would check up on me and I nodded her away and I felt happier when she finally left, leaving me in the comfort of my books.

I ended up spending the whole day in the library. Emily brought me milk and cookies for lunch while Ana and Elsie checked up on me. I was only a few pages short of finishing my fourth book when the maid who had brought me here, came to call me for dinner.

I didn’t want to stop reading just yet but I knew I had to show up for dinner. I reluctantly put down the book and headed for the dining room.

I was surprisingly the first one there and a few minutes later, the others arrived. “Don’t mind me asking but I didn’t see you after breakfast Evelyn, did you go somewhere?” Kayden questioned.

“She was in the library for the rest of the day, it turns out my little sister is nothing short of a bookworm.” Elsie answered for me with a smile.

“I really didn’t know or else I would have joined you, well there’s always a next time.” He said and the maids served us dinner. I was undeniably hungry and ate a lot, even more than I had during breakfast.

“Someone’s really hungry today.” Elsie teased. “You shouldn’t blame her, don’t you know that reading books takes effort? It gets really tiring and I would eat more if I were her.” Kayden came to my rescue.

“Dear brother in-law, it was just a little joke. She’s my sister so I can tease her a little bit.” Elsie said in a sarcastic tone.

“Dear sister in-law, she’s your sister so I can also defend her.” Kayden retorted.

“Kayden please stop it, you shouldn’t speak to Elsie like that.” Richard finally spoke. I had come to notice that he wasn’t someone who talked a lot, he was a more calculative type of person and that definitely shows true leadership and I’ve come to respect him a lot.

“Bro, she started it.” Kayden whined. “Kayden, you’re 20 years old so you should really start acting your age.” Richard reprimanded.

“Enough of the ruckus, we’re here to eat not argue amongst ourselves. Let’s respect our table manners and finish this dinner quietly, you can continue your little squabble then.” Ana reprimanded and all was silent but I had already lost my appetite.

Besides, I was already full so I decided to retire to bed for the night. I did my usual routine of brushing my teeth, washing my hair before taking a bath.

I dressed up in a nightgown and sat up on my bed. I dreaded falling asleep because I knew I was only going to have the same horrifying nightmare again.

It was just so unfortunate how despite after escaping Zephyr’s torture, he still managed to haunt my dreams.
