“You’re wrong dear, she’s not my biological sister, but she’s my sister from this day henceforth.” Elsie said and Alpha Richard gave a look of confusion. “I’m sorry but I’m a little lost here, she’s not your sister but she’s now your sister. You’ll have to explain it to me.” Alpha Richard said and Elsie giggled.

She went on to also explain what Ana had just told her to him. “My father made such a terrible mistake and it almost made me lose the love of my life, my wonderful mate and I’ve made a promise to myself that I won’t stand by and watch while another innocent person is accused and punished for someone else’s crime. I’m going to have to confront the Alpha of Crescent Moon pack, he has to apologize to this girl or face the consequences. I don’t mind going on a full on war since our pack is much bigger and stronger.” Alpha Richard stated and fear gripped my heart instantly.

Though I hated Zephyr and mostly everyone else in that pack, I would never wish for a war to happen because of me. Too many innocent people’s lives would be at stake and I just wouldn’t be able to bear that. As much as the attention I was getting was so gratifying, I didn’t want to let it get the better of me.

I shook my head in refusal and luckily, Elsie quickly got the message.

“No dear. As much as I’m in support of your decision, I’m afraid we must not go forward with it. Too many innocent people’s lives would be at risk.” Elsie cautioned.

“What innocent people are you talking about? According to what you said, she was abused and treated even worse than a slave by all the members of her pack so none of them are innocent.” Alpha Richard raged.

“What about the little pups? Aren’t they innocent? They know nothing of what their parents are doing so should they be punished for the misdeeds of their parents? And what about our own people? What will we tell their families if they lose their life in such a senseless battle? I really don’t want any loss of lives. I feel really angry with everyone in the Crescent Moon pack for their barbaric behavior but we must not take action based on our sentiments. I’m just glad that Evelyn is alive and well and she’s with us now so she won’t have to go through such inhumane treatment ever again.” Elsie cajoled and this caused Alpha Richard to calm down.

It’s really sweet to see how much of an effect she has on him. I would wish for a mate like Richard but I know it’s impossible, my first mate already rejected me and a second chance mate seems very unlikely in my case because of my disability and for the simple fact that goddess Selene hates me.

“You’re right Elsie, she’s safe with us now and I’ll make sure she’s well taken care of.” Richard declared and I found myself smiling, I had finally gotten the family I deserved. A family that would love me even through all my flaws.

“Yes, it’s their loss. They don’t know that they’ve let go of a precious gem, I have a feeling that Evelyn will do great things in our pack. Richard, can she please stay here in the palace with us?” Elsie questioned and I gasped, not expecting to ever hear those words.

It was already such a huge honour, being in the palace and being welcomed like family but being given an opportunity to stay in the palace would be just too much. I’d probably faint from the excitement.

“Yes, of course. You don’t even have to ask, this palace is your home dear, so you can invite whoever you want to stay here and I’ll have no qualms about it.” Richard consented and Elsie got on her tippy toes to k**s his cheek.

“Thank you, sweetheart.” She appreciated him and he caressed her cheek warmly. The love between them was so evident that it made me both happy and sad. I was happy to see such a lovely couple but on the other hand, I felt sad, their affection was creating a lingering longing in me.

Due to the way I had been treated in my former pack, giving up the idea of having a mate had been easy because I just assumed that my mate would never make me happy, I had always imagined that he would be bad to me, just like Zephyr had been but now that I was seeing that love truly exists in this world, that love is that feeling that makes life worth living, I want to experience it.

I want to feel it, I want to be engulfed in it and now that I truly think about it, I want to have what Elsie and Richard have.

“Absolutely not, that decision is unacceptable.” Ana said and we all turned to her. “I was just starting to enjoy my golden years because I’m no longer lonely upon Evelyn’s arrival and now you want to steal her away and make her stay in the palace? Absolutely not.” Ana said and I pouted.

No offense but I would much prefer the palace to that squeaky, old cottage. I mean, who wouldn’t?

“I’m sorry mum but I also don’t accept your suggestion. Evelyn has been through a lot so don’t you think she deserves the royal treatment? She is a part of our family now so she can stay in the palace, maybe until she finds herself a mate or as long as she wants. ” Elsie tried to convince.

“But still…….” Ana wanted to protest but Elsie wouldn’t let her. “Instead of deliberating on the matter, why don’t we ask Evelyn what she wants since she’s the one we’re talking about.” Elsie said and I sighed softly.

She asked me if I wanted to stay in the palace and I nodded yes. Ana’s expression immediately turned from a joyful one to sad in a matter of minutes.

“I would never want to stand in between you and your happiness, Evelyn. I guess I’ll just have to live the rest of my life alone in my cottage. It won’t be hard, it’ll just be like before I found you.” Ana lamented and I frowned, I was starting to feel guilty about wanting to leave Ana just to stay in this big, fancy castle.

“Mum please stop being such a drama queen, you know there’s a simple solution to all our problems. You can just move into the palace with Evelyn, then we’ll finally be a complete family.” Elsie suggested and I instantly liked the idea.

“No, I couldn’t.” Ana said and Elsie looked to her husband for support.

“Listen to me mom, you’ve told me many times that you’ve forgiven me and my father for the evil that he did to your family so long ago but I don’t believe that. How am I supposed to believe any of it when you’ve constantly refused to stay in the palace?

I need you to prove it to me today that you’ve actually forgiven me for everything, please move into the palace so we can take good care of you. It would really mean a lot to me and Elsie, even Evelyn.” Richard said and I saw traces of succumbing in Ana’s eyes, I knew I had to do something so she would agree to it.

I went to her, bent down and broke down in tears, touching her feet. This action of mine instantly got her worried and confused.

“What is it, Evelyn? Are you alright?” She questioned. I signed to her that I wanted her to move into the palace and by grace, she understood and finally agreed.

I was so overcome with joy that I hugged her. “This is such wonderful news, mother has finally agreed to move into the palace and it’s all because of Evelyn. My hunch was right, she’ll surely bring good things to us. After all, she is just as good looking as myself.” Elsie said with a smile and we all laughed.

“What are the both of you doing standing over there, get in here right now.” Ana said, presenting outstretched arms so they could join in the hug.

They joined in the hug and it felt so warm and lively.

“What did I tell you Evelyn, better days would come for us and look, they’re finally here. We were once a loathed slave but look at us now, we’ve gained so much overnight that it almost seems like magic. We finally have a family and we’re going to be living in the palace now, no cross that, we’re officially a part of the royal family! All that’s left is your prince charming, are you ready for him?” Tara said and questioned and I rolled my eyes.

‘Are we really going to start on that? I’ve told you before, I don’t need a prince charming. I’m fine just the way I am, especially now that I have a family.’ I told her sternly.

“Are you trying to convince me or yourself? Don’t forget Evelyn, I’m your wolf and we’re fused together, I’m a part of you so you can’t lie to me as much as I can’t lie to you. You want your own prince charming, you want one just like Elsie’s. We’ve escaped the beast and that hellish place so we’re finally allowed to dream freely. Imagine what our prince charming will be like and fantasize about him because I’m pretty sure we’ll meet him soon.” Tara teased and I decided to ignore her but the thought lingered on in my mind.

Will I really get my prince charming? And what will he look like?
