Narrator

Months passed by, and now David is fully accepted by the vampire community. They were fully aware who he was. The commoners were faithful to the throne. And they trusted their superiors enough to accept their judgement without any hesitation. Even those who had tortured him had came to apologize and swear their loyalty to their ruler, who David gracefully forgave. They were grateful for that and swore to protect their future king and queen with their lives.

Evan passed the test after his training sessions with flying colours and soon joined the army. He and Nolan were the most hard working youngsters among those who joined recently. King Richard knew that though David was young, he would have enough experience of fighting. After all, he was the reason they couldn’t defeat the werewolf army the first time they attacked.

Everything in the vampire kingdom was perfect and peaceful.

Days passed by and came Kat’s seventeenth birthday. They decided to take a small break from all the havoc and have some fun together. King Richard and his brother sat in the conference room along with Evan’s mother, where the youngsters decided to have some fun. They had specially decorated the whole room so that they could have a little party. Just the six of them and the parents, of course.

They had silly smiles pasted on their faces as they watched them have fun, tease and play silly games.

“Isn’t it fun to watch them?” king Richard chuckled.

“Yeah. Just like our old days.” His brother murmured, looking just as amused as the king.

“I miss my best friend.” His wife Gabriella sighed, as she watched the kids, making Richard smile sadly.

“I miss her more.” He whispered back. Ronald sensing the atmosphere getting tense put either of his hands around the people who meant to him the most – his beloved wife and his one and only brother.

“Now now. Let’s not ruin the mood?” he said. He looked at the two young couples while Nolan and Kat also enjoyed with them. He furrowed his eyebrows.

“Hey. Guys. Do you think Nolan could be Kat’s beloved?” he asked in a low voice a small smirking curving his lips.

“Huh!” his wife’s eyes lit up at once and stared at the six youngsters who were indulged in their own fun.

Richard chuckled. “You are about to unleash the hug monster Ronald.”

Gabriella rolled her eyes.

“What? Am I not allowed to welcome my kid’s beloved? I don’t care. I’ll wait one more year and then we can know for sure.” She turned towards her beloved and squealed.

“I can’t wait!!” her squeals caught the attention of the kids.

“Mommy? What are you so excited about?” Kat asked, curious about it.

The king and his brother exchanged amused glances and then they burst out laughing.

“She is super excited about you finding your beloved Kat.” Her father replied his eyes twinkling in amusement.

“Oh!” she murmured and quickly looked away, her face heating up as the b***d rushed to her face.

Elle, Carol and David tried their best to hold back their laughter while Nolan bit his lips hard as he looked away from Kat. Everyone noticed how he tried his best not to look in to Kat’s eyes.

“Ooh. Some one is beet red.” Evan teased, smirking at his sister, who glared at him but chose to not respond.

“Evan. Don’t tease your sister.” Their mother warned them, pretending to be a little cross. But then, grinned at them.

“At least not when I’m here.” She added making Kat g***n.

“Moooom. That was sooo helpful.” She muttered under her breath, sarcasm dripping from each word.

Giggling and chuckling the three elders got up to leave the youngsters alone.

“Ok. We are leaving. Have fun and don’t stay up until too late. We all need our sleep.” Evan’s mother instructed before leaving after the two men.

As soon as they left, Kat g*****d dramatically and covered her face, embarrassed and blushing, still feeling awkward with what had happened.

Carol and Elle giggled while the boys smirked and chuckled to themselves.

“That’s ok Kat. A whole year is still there.” Carol pointed out.

“Yes but imagine facing mom’s enthusiasm for one whole year!” she replied and the whole group burst out laughing

The whole night passed by with them enjoying and talking away. When it was almost sunrise, it was time for them to clean up and leave. Though they were the nobles they chose to clean up after such small gatherings. It wasn’t much work anyway.

“So it is almost done.” Evan said looking around satisfied by the work they had done.

“Yeah. Almost. When we remove these coloured papers from the wall it is over.” Kat replied, starting to pick them one by one.

Carol yawned. It was a tiring night for them.

“You guys go ahead. We will remove these and then finish this.” Nolan nodded at his friends.

“Yeah. We have a lot of things to do…… ahem…..in our rooms.” Evan smirked mischievously making Elle’s eyes go wide before she blushed crimson red.

“Oh god!” Nolan shook his head, as he tried his best not to smirk at him.

“Yeah. I’ll second that.” David added giving Evan a high five.

“Good gracious. Stop!” Carol g*****d as she covered her face.

“What? Did we say something bad?” Evan looked at David who shrugged innocently and looked as if nothing had happened.

“Just……. go.” Nolan smirked at them and went to help Kat, who had kept silent throughout the whole conversation.

“Yup. We are off. I hope you also find your beloved soon.” Evan said as they left. Nolan shook his head in amusement. Yes. He was eager to find his other half. But still no lock yet. The duo kept removing the remaining decorations silently for some time.

“Have they left?” Kat finally broke the silence to which Nolan nodded as a response.

“Oh my God. My brother is so annoying.” She murmured making Nolan chuckle.

“But I know you won’t agree. You are his best friend.” She added as she pulled at a string.

“ugh. This is so tight.” She g*****d.

“Let me help.” Nolan offered and went to untie the string. As he did, his hands brushed against hers and a jolt of electricity that originated from where the skin brushed made him freeze.

Slowly, he turned his head towards her, who didn’t take any notice of it. But she then looked at him, sensing his stare.

“Why are you staring at me like a creep?” she made a face as she said so. But all what Nolan could do was gape at her in amazement. His mouth was open a jar and his eyes blinked occasionally, but that’s it.

“Oookkk.” Kat said, raising her eyebrows in confusion and started to wave her hand in front of his face.

“Earth to Nolan.” She giggled but he was just frozen in his position. Sighing she placed her fore finger under her chin and closed his open mouth. Once again he felt the sparks which had made his completely speechless. His heart suddenly started to race and his mouth watered. What was happening?

“Nolan. I’m really tired. I’m going to sleep. Ok? This one is the last of it. Please. Stop staring at me like this is first time you have seen me. You are creeping me out.” She said, with a hint of seriousness in her voice.

At last, she shook him, in an attempt to shake him out of whatever he was in. But his eyes continued to linger on her.

“Hey. Snap out of it.” She demanded.

“Yeah. I’m sorry. Go and sleep. I will remove this one.” Nolan said, shaking himself out of the daze. Kat smiled genuinely and walked away.

Nolan tried to concentrate on his work, but he couldn’t help except steal glances at her retreating figure as she left. As soon as she was out of sight he let out a whoosh of air.

It was her! His beloved! And she is still just seventeen. No wonder she didn’t feel the bond between them. Swallowing the accumulated saliva, he slowly removed the last of the decorations. He will have to wait for another year before he could express anything. But one thing is for sure. He now will look out for her more than he ever had in the past. She may not be aware of how important she is to him. But he now knows who she is.
