Rejected And Forsaken -
Chapter 31
David pov.
“Mate!!! Mate!!!” Finn kept chanting in my mind. “She is our mate!” his words repeated in my mind.
What in the world…..
She smiled at me and averted her gaze, as if nothing had happened. She smiled at the gathered crowd, which consisted of several unmated young vampires. Of course she wouldn’t feel the bond like this. She would only realise the bond by touch.
Finn growled possessively. “Grab her. Claim her. She is ours. Those unmated vampires are ogling her. I want to pluck their eyes off their sockets!!!” he kept growling, baring his teeth.
He was right. Many males present in the gathering were gawking at their princess. How dare they? They have no right to look at her like that. She is their princess, they should stay in their damn limits! And beside she is mine! Only I have the right to stare at her.
I felt as if was going to loose it and give control to Finn when the king cleared his throat to get everyone’s attention.
“As you all know, tonight is a big night. Our princess and the heir to the throne, is turning eighteen. We all know what that means. I hope her better half is among you. And I hope that we can start to prepare both of you to take over the throne.” He then raised the glass of b***d he held in his right hand .
“Cheers. Please enjoy the night.” He added and stepped aside to be with his Evan’s parents.
I looked around, trying to keep myself under control. When my eyes landed on a male who was trying to make a conversation with Carol, Finn growled violently. Jealousy started to make me feel bitter, but I knew this was not my territory and me acting all territorial will prove to be disastrous.
I quickly averted my gaze and looked around. Evan and Nolan were chilling with Elle and Kat, just a short distance away. Lots of people were dancing on the dance floor to the blaring music, which only gave me a troubling headache. The fancy lights seemed to make me dizzy. The pine scent only made it harder for me to focus. And me trying to fight it only made it harder than it already was.
“I need to get out of hear.” I murmured and hurried out of the crowded hall. As soon as I managed to get out of rabble and away from a good distance so that the deafening music was somewhat tolerable, I leaned against the wall of the corridor and closed my eyes. She was my mate? My second chance mate? Is this what Finn was hiding all this time? Is this what he felt in the first place.
I huffed and gasped, trying to calm my erratic heart.
“Finn…..you could have just told me.” I told him.
“Yeah. But where is the fun in it the?” he chuckled. “No go back in there and claim her. Hug her. K**s her…I don’t care what you do. Make her ours…”
“Whoa. Finn. Slow down a bit. This is not the werewolf territory. We cannot claim anyone here just like that.” I face palmed, shaking my head at my lycan’s eagerness.
“Oh shoot. I was going to say just mark her tonight….” Finn muttered making me g***n.
“Shut up Finn. You are too horny.” I rolled my eyes. “This is not the time for that you over stimulated lycan. Right now, they think I’m human. I can’t go around showing my wolf side to everyone.”
Finn scowled and scoffed. “That is because you are too scared to face it. I told you to tell them the truth. How else do you think that you are going to get our revenge? Huh? How much more time are you going to waste? David. You’ve got to man up. Otherwise, I will have to take over you and forcefully show everyone what I really am.” He huffed and completely blocked me out.
I sighed and leaned against the wall, thinking deeply about Finn’s outburst. He was right. I was scared. And I really should face them because that was the best option I had to win any possible war or get the revenge I wanted to from those treacherous traitors. What he had just said was absolutely true. I must face it. I had to. I had no other choice.
“David.” Evan, who was peeking out of the entrance of the hall waved at me hysterically. I took deep breath and walked towards him.
“What are you doing here? All the youngsters are shaking her hand. Perhaps she will feel her beloved tonight. Don’t you want to see it for your self?” he asked. His question only made me uneasy. Her beloved? She is mine! She is my mate! She cannot belong to anyone else. I had to have full control over my facial muscles, not to scowl at him, but deep down in my heart, a storm was brewing at it’s full potential.
I gulped and shrugged. Evan took my hand and dragged me towards the little stage where there was a long queue of boys, all trying to shake her hand. I felt a strange feeling of repulsion and vexation fill my entire being. How dare they touch what is mine.
“Well. Not me for sure.” Nolan’s voice came from behind me, making me snap my head at him.
“Huh?” I asked.
“I mean, I am not her beloved. When I shook her hand I didn’t feel anything. I’m kind of glad. I see her as my little sister.” He added. All what I could do was taken in a shaky breath as I watched the vampire males shake her hand one by one. Some of them even went to the extent of kissing the skin on the back of her hand.
I stared without blinking as one them lowered his head and placed his lips on her hand, as he maintained eye contact with her. How dare he? I held back my growls and the urge to rip his head off of his pathetic body.
“Hey, are you ok David? You look as if you are constipated.” Kat’s comical remark, made everyone laugh.
“Who knows, maybe he is. I found him all alone, sweating from head to toe at the end of this corridor. Perhaps he need to go.” Evan teased.
I let out a humourless laugh. Actually, that was the best response I could muster. I felt as if I was in a constant battle with my self. I was fighting my urge to run up to her and scoop her up in my arms. I was striving against the desire to k**s he right here in front of everyone, and announce to the whole world that she is mine. My beloved. Only mine.
“Dude. Really. Are you ok?” Nolan asked, a bit more seriously.
The rest of the gang stopped their giggles and chuckled and looked at me in a more sincere manner, finally sensing that I really was going through some real uneasiness. Their curious eyes, drilled holes in me, but what all I could do was gasp for breath, while my entire shirt started to soak in sweat. I saw Evan and Nolan exchange confused, yet worried glances. I kept my eyes fixed on the last vampire in line, while he shook her hand and bowed down before walking away.
Well, at least that one was a lot more respectful. A sense of relief washed over me when she stood up and smiled at everyone. The king went to speak to her, and after a short conversation, he decided to make another announcement.
He clapped his hands to get everyone’s attention.
“Well that was disappointing. None of you felt the tingles of the bond. But I hope that she finds her beloved soon. The party is over for tonight as we have an important matter to discuss at hand. You may all leave.” His voice was loud and clear, and it felt so good to hear him say that.
Yes! I didn’t want her to be around all these unmated males. She is mine! One by one left the palace hall and soon it was just us in the hall.
“Awww. My darling. Don’t worry baby girl. I’m sure you will find him soon.” Evan’s mom cooed and hugged her tight. Carol giggled and wiggled a little, so that her aunt would let her go.
“Aunty, I honestly am not in a hurry to find him.” Carol said. Her voice sounded so melodious to me. I watched her eyes, look everywhere except me. But why? I was not looking at anything except her. Look at me mate. I need to see that beautiful emerald orbs.
“But Carol. You must find him. I don’t want you to be alone. And with the threat…….” the king trailed off. But I had heard what he had just said. Threat? What threat?
“Daddy. You are thinking too much. I’ll be fine. You didn’t raise a weakling. You have made sure that your daughter is an empowered woman.” Her words made the king smile with pride but then, he shrugged in a defeated manner.
“The other reason why I hoped that you find your beloved was that if you don’t find him by the time you turn nineteen, you will be betrothed to someone the king chooses.” He said in a little whisper, just loud enough for us to hear. “And I cannot think of anyone better than Nolan for that.” He said.
His statement, made me snap. Was he going to give what is rightfully mine to someone else?
I saw Carol was going to protest, but right now, I couldn’t care less.
“Mine!” I deep growl escaped my mouth before I could stop it. Finn was trying to take over and I would just let him, so that both of us were now partly in control of what we did.
Everyone gasped, perhaps when they realised that my eyes were no longer in its blue colour.
“David…..” Nolan and Evan tried to hold me back but I was way stronger than them I just brushed them off and took long strides towards my beloved mate who was watching me astonished, with her mouth open a jar.
I knew everyone was watching us, but I didn’t care. Not anymore. I wouldn’t let anyone take her away from me. I stopped right in front of her, not feeling even the slightest bit of intimidation from the king’s stern glare. He too was shocked, but he was clearly not as confused as the others.
“Mine!” my growl was powerful enough to shake the chandeliers in the hall. I lifted my hand and tucked the dark brown strand of hair behind her soft ear. She gasped upon our skin contact. I smirked. She had felt the sparks, just like I did.
“D…David?” she whispered.
“Hello mate.” I whispered back, in my own voice and cupped her cheeks.
