David roamed around the woods. He had to learn to survive in the wilderness. It was a good thing that he had his lycan with him. Hunting and looking for food was not the main problem. It was hiding from any lurking dangers. He was is the vampire’s territory, and that means he could be in danger. He must hide from them carefully. He at and drank and washed himself from a creek he found. But where does he sleep when night falls?

His eyes darted from the rich forest floor to the canopied branches. “I guess it is best that I sleep in a tree.” He muttered. Finn also agreed. He would be safer high up on a branch than on the ground. He walked around to find a suitable tree.

The sun is about to set dude, hurry. Finn huffed in his mind. I’m trying. David replied. Finn rolled his eyes. This is the forest. And these are just trees. None of them will be like those beds you slept on. Now choose one already. Finn replied, his tone made it clear he was already tired and fed up of David walking around in circles. David sighed and stopped beside a huge oak tree. “This one should be fine.” He mumbled and proceeded to climb it.

He extended his claws and climbed up, marking the trunk with his sharp claws as he ascended. Finally, David settled on a thick branch and tried to make himself comfortable. It’s a good thing I don’t get cold at night. David told Finn. Yup. Perks of being lycan. Thank me later. Finn replied proudly. David rolled his eyes at Finn’s proud remark Whatever dude. David replied, secretly delighted about Finn. David could feel Finn’s wolfy grin in his mind. You cannot hide your true feelings from me David. You are proud to have me. Finn replied. David chuckled. Of course. What would I do with out you? David felt his body relax on the branch. It was not even close to sleeping on a bed, but the stressful week and the exhausting events had worn him off. His eyes slowly started to feel heavy and David didn’t even want to fight against it. Good night buddy. Rest well. Finn muttered and retreated back in to his mind.

The next day, David woke up as the sun’s rays heated up the earth. Just as soon as he woke up, he felt an uneasiness in his heart. David frowned and rubbed his chest. This was a foreign feeling. Slowly and steadily, he sat up and tried to shake the discomfort away, but it seemed as if it just wouldn’t leave. David carefully climbed down the tree and walked towards the creek to wash his face.

Just as he reached the creek, a sudden sharp pain made him gasp and clench his shirt. He took urgent gasps of breath, hoping to make the pain would soon recede. It only seemed to intensify making David fall on all fours. His fingers dug in to the dirt and he g*****d in pain. This went on for a while, until finally the pain diminished. David took a moment to calm himself down. What was that? He asked Finn as soon as he was able to. David could clearly feel Finn’s dejection, which only made his curiosity increase. Finn’s silence could only mean that it was something big… and bad. So David decided to wash himself and wait for Finn to respond in his own due time.

David was about to bent down and wash his face when Finn’s angry growl echoed in his mind. Our damned pack has chosen another alpha.

David stopped in his tracks. So that was the pain of being replaced? He took a deep breath and took a moment before replying. That is not really surprising Finn. Like you said, there will come a time when they will have to pay for what they did. Right now let’s go for a swim in the creek. It is deep enough for us to dive in. I think that will cool us off. He replied. Finn nodded in agreement and David dove in to the cool water of the creek. He didn’t bother to remove the clothes he wore. He dove right in to the water soaking his clothes wet. He swam and after sometime, he just floated on the water, allowing the current to carry him away. After sometime, he swam back to the shore and lied on the bank to rest for a while.

As he lied staring at the clear blue sky, he thought about his unfortunate life. Fate had not been on his side since the beginning of his life. How cruel could life be? It was not fair that some wolves got all the happiness in life while others had to suffer from the beginning till the end.

Finn? Why are we still alive? David questioned. Finn sighed. He knew exactly what David meant. I feel that I was put in this world only to feel pain. I had lost my mom first. Then, I lost all my friends. And then my dad and grandparents. My mate and pack rejected me. And then I was framed and accused. Now, I even have felt the pain of being rejected and replaced. Why are we still here Finn? David continued to spill out his emotions. Can this get any worse? He complained once again.

Hey. A few minutes ago you were prepping me. And now you are talking like this? Come on. We will face the demons and we will conquer them. Now shut up and let’s hunt. I am hungry. David smiled painfully and stood up. It hurt bad but Finn was right. The only way out of this was by facing it. Its your turn to hunt. He replied and allowed himself to shift to his lycan.

Finn ended up hunting rabbits. He ended up swallowing down ten rabbits, as just a few wouldn’t satisfy his immense hunger. He shifted back to allow David to explore. You know you can hide your scent and smell like a human on this form. Finn told him. I think it is best you do that since this is the vampire territory. Since werewolves are their sworn enemy, they will attack as soon as they sense you are one.

David bit his lips. But don’t they feed on humans? Will they try to capture me if they think that I am one? He questioned.

That we will have to find out. Remember the law forbidding the mystical creatures from harming humans who cross the magical border? That law will apply to the vamps too. Finn informed. David thought about it. The magical border was what separated the human world and the mystical world. Humans rarely crossed the border, but they occasionally did get lost in these enchanted woods.

Worth a try I guess. David replied and masked his scent. His keen eyes looked around for possible danger lurking in the trees. He shrugged as he didn’t sense anything wrong and walked forward. He wanted to be familiar with his new home. He better be, if he wanted to survive.

He walked a good distance before he sensed that he had reached a clearing. He didn’t go out in to the open. That would only expose him completely. Instead, he hid in the shadows and peeped through the leaves.

In the centre of the clearing was a majestic castle which was completely black. Several towers pointed towards the sky, making the castle standout in addition to the contrast of black against the rich green forest. The castle stood tall and proud as the b***d red flags swayed in the air. It was surrounded by silver gates and wolfsbane vines grew all over it. The castle had several doors and windows all made in silver, but all of them were tightly shut.

It is the vampire castle! David’s eyes widened as realisation hit him. He suddenly started to panic. He was too close to them. Calm down you doofus. Climb the tree. Finn’s voice startled David. But before replying he quickly extended his claws and climbed up the nearest tree. He didn’t stop until he felt he was a safe distance away from the ground.

David heaved and gasped in a desperate attempt to calm his racing heart. He wiped his forehead and peeked at the black castle. David. You are hyperventilating for no reason. Calm down. Finn blurted out. These are nocturnal creatures. They are weak in the sun. They most probably are sleeping right now. You really can loosen up. Finn assured.

David felt better. He looked around and noticed how the entire place was deserted. No one was around. Not even the guards. His eyes travelled to the silver gates and doors and the vines growing all over the castle.

Wait. Finn. Didn’t I mask you? David asked as he finally perceived that it was Finn who had spoken to him after he had masked the scent.

Finn snickered at his human. You masked our scent. Not me. Finn grunted as he rolled his eyes. Seriously David. Don’t be stupid. Finn added.

Insolent wolf. David reprimanded.

Doofus. Don’t call me wolf. I’m a lycan. Finn responded.

David smirked. Still a wolf. He remarked, as he tried to hold back his laughter.

Finn huffed in his vexation making David burst out in laughter. Finn. Dude. I’m grateful for you. Seriously. And I am very very proud of you. I most probably won’t live without you. David finally declared as he controlled his laughter.

I know. Finn replied. David’s eyes darted back to the sliver doors. Finn, do you that is pure silver? David questioned.

Yeah. And look at those vines. All of it to protect it from werewolves, their enemies. Finn answered. But those things won’t hurt us.

Yes. We are immune to that. David replied as he started to climb down the tree. He couldn’t spend the whole day on a tree. Besides, he didn’t want to stay too close to the vampire castle when night fell. He retraced his steps and returned to the tree he had spend previous night.

Days passed by. David’s days were filled with hunting and hiding from the vampires. His lycan was stronger but still he was a loner. He hid his scent when he was in his human form and shifted only when the sun was at it’s peak. That way, they wouldn’t be discovered.

One evening, David was relaxing beside the creek when his wolf hearing sensed something in the trees. He became alerted at once. He quickly stood up and scanned the area. His sharp eyes landed on two twinkling eyes glaring right at him.

He knew he had to be careful if he was to hide his lycan from whatever that was. But he couldn’t put his guard down. “Who is there?”. David yelled.

Someone giggled. Softly but David could clearly hear the hushed chuckles and giggles. It was certainly a female. Whoever it is doesn’t seem to be harmful.

“Ok. You can come out and talk. I don’t bite.” David announced, hoping that whoever it is will reveal herself. Then, she burst out in laughter. Slowly his leaves parted and out came a young girl, who seemed to be in her mid teens.

She walked out of the trees, but carefully stayed in the shadows. “Hi.” She greeted. David sniffed the air and licked his lips anxiously. He was face to face with a vampire.
