Rebirth of the Prime Dragon Master -
Chapter 239 Keeping A Low Profile
Rocky became jittery. The way Lance glanced at him with questioning eyes caused him unease immediately. It was at this stage that his mind lingered that Lance might have arrayed his eyes on Basil before. Lance was one of the Three Great Generals of the Holy Dragon Empire. This offered him the golden opportunities to visit the Palace City and attend various ceremonies and rituals more regularly. These chances gave Lance time to see Basil.
The simple logic of this made Rocky engulfed in dread. His adrenaline flooded his system; it also pumped and thumped like it was trying to evade. All this fear emerged from him, because if Lance recognized him, the result might become more inconvenient than helpful to him. Above all, it would throw all the arrangements set up in the trash. If he had the slightest perception of all this, then he wouldn't have dared offer a commitment to Marin to be part and parcel in the Army Flag Contest by being a participant. He wouldn't have showcased his strengths for a basic primary Dark Heaven Egg. Unfortunately, all this was in vain since it was too late for second opinions. The mess was already done and could not be reversed. With no hope left on him, all Rocky had to rely on was Lance not recognizing him.
Lance had a closer glimpse at Rocky, taking a good look at him from head to toe for a few minutes. His memories served him right and Rocky looked familiar. But he didn't have the slightest notion where he had arrayed his eyes on him. This made him abandon the concept of knowing his identity any further. However, there was a greater possibility of Lance uncovering Rocky's true identity if he recalled carefully given Rocky's top-secret identity.
Lance wasn't the character who kept details. This made Rocky fortunate enough and lucky. The reason he had called Rocky was to interrogate about the array he had set up. He questioned Rocky. "What is your name?"
"My name is Rocky Bai.” “Lance doesn't remember me, ' Rocky pondered to himself as he emitted an exhale of relief. This was after realizing that Lance's eyes suddenly came back to a normal state. It was a huge relief to Rocky. He returned the quizzes with his warm voice as early spring. He further made obeisance to Lance by cupping one hand in the other before his chest.
"What position do you hold in the northeast military camp?" Rocky was a breeder in the northeast military camp. Lance was in the dark and had no slightest idea about this.
"Father, he is a breeder," Isis answered first before Rocky could utter a single word and reply to the query.
"You are the breeder of the northeast military camp?" Shock reflected on Lance's face before he could conceal it. This statement took him by surprise, making him grimace.
Rocky also noncommittally nodded.
“This is unheard of, specifically if Marin sent Rocky there. She has invariably had the absolute desire to have precedence over others. It is unlike her to send a casual breeder to take part in the Army Flag Contest. Could it be that Marin sent him for diverse reasons apart from taking part? Lance wondered, trying to get answers.
As he reflected through this, Lance stole a glance at his daughter. Isis's eyes met his father's eyes as they made direct contact. They were of the same sentiment. The stunning performance orchestrated by him wasn't something expected. This meant that Rocky had covered up his genuine personality. "Have you ever learned the formation of arrays from any master?" After reflecting for a while, Lance continued interrogating Rocky.
"I have never mastered the skills of array deployment from anyone.” Rocky denying Lance's substantial argument or evidence shook his head.
"Then who trained you the array you just deployed? It is absurd to produce such an absolute and baffling array on your own considering your age..." Lance, who yet didn't buy that story, asked Rocky the same query again.
Isis watched Rocky with her appealing eyes. Her eyes looked radiant and liquid warm, moistened with light brown specks, enclosed by the beautiful lashes. She was dying to receive the response.
"I deployed that array by myself,” Rocky answered back casually.
The father and daughter exchanged glances after being answered. This act of deploying the array by one man single-handedly was like squeezing water from a stone. If this was honestly possible, then this fellow was a unique genius in the formation of arrays to implement such a task.
"By yourself? Ha-ha! That sounds very outrageous!" Lance's eyes became bleak after letting out a peal of laughter.
A powerful spiritual breath suddenly enveloped Rocky. A voice that came from Lance repeated the same query to him. "Did you deploy that array by yourself? Be genuine and tell me the plain truth. Or some masters gave you the golden opportunity to achieve the professional knowledge of deploying arrays?" Rocky was experiencing a rough time, for Lance's each word and sentence drove him to feel like trouble was brewing up every time he asserted some words to him.
The fear inflicted on him was working on his mind as torment, elevating primal fear, decreasing logic, and self-control. If he were a common person, he would have let the cat out of the bag and profess his real identity.
"I deployed that array on my own." However, Rocky answered back without blinking his eyes in nonchalance. He preserved his composure, dampening the situation rather than adding flames. He had witnessed the worst quagmire, so this was just like a stroll in the park. He struggled to soothe himself despite Lance's spiritual breath overwhelming him, causing him to feel like a mountain was pressing on his chest.
Lance was persuaded that Rocky wasn't an ordinary person after gaining much experience. He was astounded how he had responded and yet able to remain so calm under his great pressure. In the back of his mind, he speculated that the top-secret identity of Rocky must be linked to the incredible skill of deploying arrays that he showed. He pulled back his spiritual breath. It sounded like Rocky never told a particular lie. This was after he affirmed what he had spoken earlier while he was under the spiritual breath.
"How can a self-established array make the three Frontline Commanders of my Crimson Dragon Group wonder and be at a loss on how to tackle the vicious attack? Do you have your array deployed in such a tactic manner, or my Crimson Dragon Group's Frontline Commanders are fragile compared with your array? A breeder in the northeast military camp has made them unable to break the array and even makes it seem like drawing blood from a turnip,” Lance asked in a taunting tone at the same time, gawking at Rocky with sharp eyes.
"I think we won by a whisker. It was just the luck of the draw, or maybe the three Commanders deliberately let me win the contest out of goodwill,” Rocky replied calmly.
"Apart from this array in the process of the Army Flag Contest, you were on the ball and saved the soldiers’ energy. You let your troop stay away from the battleground. Using tactics, you smartly destroyed the two troops of the White Army when the Black Army was at a disadvantage. Can you affirm that all this were as sheer luck?" Isis not content with Rocky's words asked in a doubting tone. She could not hold her horses any longer and popped the question.
Lance glanced at Rocky suspiciously after hearing this. His intuitions were always right and above all, this wasn't an ordinary thing to be done by an ordinary breeder. Even if he was still doubtful whether Rocky had come up with that array at random, it was evident that Rocky had a very high talent in deploying arrays and was also amazing in the art of war.
Many including the Commander in Chief, not to mention Lance who had a soft spot for such great talents, would admire such a great talent.
"Deputy Commander in Chief, you think highly of me. For Pete's sake? How can I have understanding and knowledge with military tactics considering I am a breeder?" Rocky remained firm with his words; nothing would drive him to alter that and reveal the truth.
Upon discovering that Rocky was uncompromising in revealing the truth, Isis's face was suppressed in rage; she gritted teeth to remain silent; her exuded animosity was acid-burning, slicing and potent. She wanted to teach him a lesson. The only chance was letting Rocky stay in the base camp for three days. While he was there, he would adhere and execute everything she declared with no protests.
Just as Isis was calculating her moves on how to get even on Rocky and teach him a lesson, Lance said, "Young man, if it's okay with you, I'd like to transfer you to the base camp and let you serve as the probationary adjutant general of the Headquarters of the General Staff. Whatever you ask for, I shall grant it. This is only if you come with us. You shall have everything you want under your nose, I promise.”
"Father? Are you serious?" Rocky was still only a breeder in the northeast military camp. It gave Isis shivers after her father made such an impulsive verdict. It was like he had poured gasoline onto the spark of fear in her belly. It was because he was of the lowest capacity even in the military camp. However, if he became a probationary adjutant general, it would promote him to a much higher level, a position which was only one level lower than the Deputy Commander of the small-size military camp. He would be equivalent to a Deputy Commander of a small-size military camp once he became a formal adjutant general. The state her father paid such an enormous concern to build up a talent caught her by surprise. It was unlike him to do such a deed. With this in mind, it seemed her father had decided to cultivate Rocky. He was of great importance to him.
