Chapter 783

Corentin went out to take care of certain matters in the afternoon and left Ashlynn alone in the mansion.

She was allowed to walk around, but would be stopped if she tried to touch telecommunication devices or acted oddly...

any

Ashlynn took a stroll around the mansion, hoping to find a chance to escape, but she could see a maid following her with every turn she made.

She made a turn around the small hill ahead and reached a cliff that had a coursing river at the bottom of it. She stared down and wondered if she could escape by jumping down, when she spotted a pair of predatory eyes emerging from the water.

She focused on those eyes and realized it was an alligator, and there was more than just one. She counted more than four gigantic alligators.

She stumbled backward in fear and asked the maid, “Why are there so many alligators?”

Alligators were predators and it was extremely dangerous to be kept in such close proximity. “These are Mr. Lloyd's pets.”

Ashlynn paled. “What?”

The maid was named Amy, and she was the same maid who tried to eavesdrop outside the door. When she saw the shocked expression on Ashlynn’s face, she said in contempt, ” What's there to be so scared about? You are such a chicken.”

Ashlynn did not argue with her because she was the only one who knew how horrifying this was. She would have not have given it a second thought if someone else had alligators as pets, but if Salvatore was keeping them, it was a different story and she knew that he did not keep the alligators simply for fun.

"What...do they usually eat?”

“Fresh meat, of course. The servants feed them every day,” Amy said

Ashlynn could not help but wondered if she was reading too much into the situation.

Not wanting to stay any longer, she turned to leave.

“Hey, are you here to sleep with Mr. Lloyd?” Amy asked rudely, “I've seen you coming in and out of his room. Are you sleeping on his bed? I'm warning you, even though we are all just employees to him, don't dream to be something more than that simply because you have a pretty face. Mr. Lloyd has a fiance! It's Ms. Hilton, the lady of highest status here in Atheton. You are nothing compared to her, got it?”

Ashlynn did not care much about it and was confused by the maid's anger.

She could not understand how she knew with certainty that “Corentin’ was actually Salvatore, when the others seemed unaware of this.

It was true that throughout the past two days, all of Salvatore’s past bad habits were gone and were replaced by an elegant and gentleman-like demeanor, the only trait left was Salvatore’s ruthlessness and no matter how hard he tried to hide it, he could not conceal it.

"When did he start keeping alligators as pets?” Ashlynn asked.

"How would I know?” Amy said.

"Has he been acting differently compared to the past?”

“No. He's always been an elegant gentleman and is still his powerful self as always,” Amy said, “why are you asking all these questions? Are you trying to become his wife?”

Ashlynn continued to push forward and was certain that something had happened, which the maid before her was unaware of.

Could Salvatore have escaped from prison and killed the real Corentin to replace him? If that was the case, Salvatore had to be the exact replica of Corentin for others to fail in noticing the difference, and that might be how he managed to fool everyone.

If Anne“s grandfather found out that the “Corentin’ before him was fake, he would be thrown back into prison.

Amy was increasingly irritated as she stared at Ashlynn and thought to herself, “She's just an assistant. Who is she to live in such a sophisticated mansion? Who is she to be served by us? Who does she think she is?’
