Chapter 1191 Stop Making Excuses

Josh was shocked.

"We just want what's ours. How did it turn into extortion?" Josh exclaimed angrily.

Alison seemed visibly frightened.

"Honey, I've heard that these wealthy people have powerful teams of lawyers who can turn black into white. We have no power or influence..."

Josh's forehead twitched with anger.

"Damn it! I will find the troublemaker! How dare he plot against me!"

Throughout his life, Josh had always done as he pleased.

He had never experienced such a setback before!

"Let's talk about that later. What should we do now?" Alison asked nervously.

"She might have just been bluffing. She won't really call the cop!"

However...

What Josh didn't expect was that when they returned to the hotel with weary steps, the police were already waiting for them.

Upon seeing this, Josh attempted to run away.

But he was swiftly restrained on the roadside.

Josh and Alison, along with their two crying children, were taken to the nearby police station.

"We are innocent! That woman conspired with our nephew to frame us. We are law-abiding people. How could we resort to extortion? We are being wrongly accused!"

When Alison arrived at the police station, she still wailed and pounded her chest.

Even the arrogant Josh had become submissive, standing there with a fearful face and saying, "Yeah, you officials shouldn't bully honest folks like us just to protect the wealthy."

"Stop making excuses. She reported the crime with evidence of your extortion. We have your phone recordings and chat logs," The police officer scolded them during the interrogation. He then played the recording of the extortion in front of the two.

Immediately, Alison turned pale.

After listening to the recording, Josh almost reflexively said, "This isn't my voice. She did this behind my back, and I had no prior knowledge!"

Alison looked at Alison in shock.

She never expected that when faced with a great crisis, this bastard would abandon her and flee!

"Whether you are involved or not, we will investigate!"

During the investigation, Alison and Josh were held in custody.

Their children were placed under the care of the welfare department.

Three days later.

They were finally released from custody.

In a meeting room, they met Athena, whom they had only met briefly before.

"Mrs. Crawford! Mrs. Crawford, I know I was wrong. We don't want the money or the house anymore. Please spare us! I have three children who need me! They can't be without me!" Alison immediately collapsed to her knees upon seeing Athena.

Josh, on the other hand, appeared mentally drained, standing to the side.

He still could not figure out why he would end up like this.

He had finally escaped from a poor and remote village and arrived in a first-tier international metropolis. He had a house and a million dollars in savings.

Once he received the money for the house, he would be able to live carefree days ahead.

But now he suddenly became a prisoner, losing everything.

These past few days had been terrible for him.

The people in custody were unfriendly, and Josh used to having his way, got into an argument with someone due to his bad mood when he first entered.

As a result, for the next three days, he had problems with meals and water, and he was even beaten.

It was almost driving him insane!

"It's not me you should be kneeling to." Athena sat there, showing no intention of helping Alison up. "Originally, Paul's family was very happy and content. You drove his mother crazy and indirectly caused their deaths.

"No, based on the evidence I currently possess, it should be said that you directly caused their deaths," Athena said with a sneer.
