Chapter 1022 To End Like This

Athena looked at Aron.

Aron shook his head slightly, then followed Evie upstairs.

"I never expected Jane to end like this." Rose shook her head, filled with deep regret.

She also disliked Jane for treating the adorable and sensible Evie that way.

But it didn't warrant death.

"Athena, maybe Evie might be overthinking. Brian's whereabouts that day... he didn't go anywhere but stayed inside the villa he bought for his mistress and never went out." Logan rubbed his stubble chin. The water reservoir where Jane fell was located in a very remote area.

The surveillance cameras were old and had been completely broken for a long time.

There were several routes led there.

And none of them had surveillance.

Besides, many anglers went fishing there.

Any physical evidence in the surrounding environment had long disappeared.

"You have also met Jane twice, so do you think she looks like someone who would kill herself?" Athena asked Logan.

Logan thought for a moment.

He shook his head honestly.

"Moreover, on that day, she contacted Evie and asked a lawyer about a divorce. Why would she look for a divorce lawyer if she was already ready to die?!"

Athena continued.

Besides, when she saw Brian at the police station that day, she felt uncomfortable all over. His crying, sadness, and anxiety always seemed fake to her.

There were several moments when she felt that Brian was suppressing his smile.

"If it is him, then his psychological endurance is truly remarkable," Byron said coolly, "I had someone investigate, and there were also several doubtful points in his ex-wife's death. Even now, people from his ex-wife's family firmly believe that Brian killed her."

"Really?" Rose furrowed her brows. "Why didn't they report it to the police?"

"They did," Byron replied, "But since the body was already cremated, nothing conclusive was found. Moreover... all the immediate relatives from his ex-wife's side had passed away. Brian inherited the relevant assets in the shortest possible time."

"In simple terms, Brian used to be a poor guy. It was because his wife died and her family was gone that he inherited all the money and assets from her side, which allowed him to build his later career," Athena summed up concisely.

Logan cursed, "What a damn lucky bastard!"

"That's about it," Athena nodded.

"But Jane had a daughter with her when she got married. Why didn't she exercise more caution and learn more about him?" Rose shuddered in fear.

"Her love-stricken mind..." Athena shook her head. "Well, let it go. The most important thing now is to find the murderer and not give him any more chances to escape." Upstairs, in Evie's room.

She curled up in the bed, with Aron gently holding her. "Honey, it's been a while since you last ate. Would you like to have a little something?"

Evie shook her head in a loss. "I can't swallow, Aron. You don't have to keep watching over me. I won't do anything foolish."

Aron wanted to say something.

But Evie spoke again, "Really, let me be alone for a while."

Aron pressed his lips tightly, then kissed her cheek. "I'll be downstairs."

"Um."

Aron got up, walked to the door, and glanced at her once. In his eyes, there was a mix of heartache and overwhelming anger. He opened the door.

Just as he was about to go downstairs, his phone rang.

He quickly took it out.

It was a message from Ada.

After reading it, Aron immediately called her.
