My Coldhearted Ex demands a Remarriage -
Chapter 204
Removing the shirt, he applied the ointment himself, his expression revealing barely restrained frustration.
Out of the corner of her eye, Elizabeth noticed his exposed shoulders and the lean definition of his waist and arms.
She quickly looked away, silently reprimanding herself.
There were countless attractive men in the world, she reminded herself.
Letting herself be swayed by her soon-to-be ex-husband would be pathetic.
Whether it was the relentless rain or Elijah’s presence, an undercurrent of annoyance gnawed at her.
She had left Bayview Villa intending to untangle herself from complex ties, yet here she was, seemingly caught in another emotional snare.
“I can’t reach my back,” Elijah stated abruptly, jolting Elizabeth from her thoughts.
His cold gaze dared her to argue.
Her eyes shifted to the wound trailing from his shoulder down his back.
Caked with mud and remnants of previous ointment, the injury looked potentially problematic.
“You didn’t clean it first?” she chided.
“With mud embedded like that, you’re inviting infection instead of healing.”
He opened his mouth, probably to argue, but her brisk movements silenced him.
She was already fetching water from the dispenser, her irritation clear in every step.
The room grew quiet, save for the sound of rain outside.
Elizabeth knelt by the bed, her hands working efficiently as she dabbed at his shoulder with gauze soaked in clean water.
Her touch was light, almost detached, yet it left a faint warmth in its wake.
Elijah turned his gaze away, focusing instead on her leg resting against the bed.
From this angle, the scars she once bore were barely visible.
A flicker of relief passed through him, prompting him to comment, “The scars are hardly noticeable now.”
She didn’t reply, her concentration unbroken as she applied the ointment with care.
Finally, she stood, handing the tube back to him as though dismissing him.
“Done.
Take this and have Oliver help you next time.”
Before she could step away, Elijah’s hand shot out, pulling her into his arms with a swiftness that left her breathless.
His voice, low and magnetic, sent a shiver down her spine.
“Why are you so determined to shut me out?”
