Mommy,We Got a Husband -
Chapter 135 I want to know who Caspian's birth mother is
Alaric's direct words made Mrs. Marigold take a long breath and then sit down slowly on the sofa, asking, "What do you want to know?"
"About what happened back then, I want to know everything." Alaric also sat down on the sofa and said, "Mom, please tell me the truth about what you hid from me back then." Mrs. Marigold was unsure how to respond, so Alaric continued, "Mom, I hope what I want to know is what you tell me, not what I find out on my own."
"Alright, I'll tell you, but you can't be mad." Mrs. Marigold gave Alaric a heads up, "All I did is for you."
"Go ahead." Alaric said in a deep voice.
Mrs. Marigold took a deep breath and slowly said, "Back then, when you were unconscious, I was worried. If you never woke up, the Knight family would have no heir."
"I already know all that. Tell me something I don't know." Alaric was clear about Mrs. Marigold's intentions.
Mrs. Marigold, being a traditional person, always believed that not having children was a disservice to the family. In the situation where Alaric was unconscious, Mrs. Marigold surely did everything possible to secure the future of the Knight family.
"I thought you had an engagement with Orion a long time ago? Finding a woman to bear your child must have been considered with Orion first. I proposed this to the Nash family, but they refused."
Mrs. Marigold recalled with some irritation. "Orion was so eager to marry you, but when it came to having a child for you, she refused, citing reasons like being a female star and her career being on the rise!"
"I don't want to hear about these." Alaric interjected, "After Orion refused, did you find a destitute girl?"
Mrs. Marigold's mention immediately brought Galatea to Alaric's mind. Galatea, who was once from a wealthy family, suddenly went bankrupt.
"Yes, to have a child for our Knight family, we needed someone with various favorable conditions, and a destitute girl was the most suitable." Mrs. Marigold confirmed.
Alaric grew impatient, "Who did you find? Why did she disappear later? Did you drive her away?"
"I didn't drive her away, and she passed away due to complications during Caspian's birth."
"She passed away!" Alaric was shocked to hear this. He had already suspected it was Galatea, but Mrs. Marigold told him that the woman had died!
"Yes, she passed away." Mrs. Marigold confirmed.
"That woman died during childbirth." Joe said.
"It's impossible!" Alaric was still convinced that the woman was Galatea.
"It must be true. The hospital records also recorded it." Mrs. Marigold explained, "I couldn't possibly hide a living person like her."
"Alaric, Joe can attest that she did pass away."
"In this case, it happened. Alaric, it's wrong for me to lie to you about Orion being Caspian's mother, but I did it for you. That woman passed away, and Orion was willing to be the mother. I agreed to it." "Agreed to it!" Alaric was now extremely angry. "Such a big lie, and you just casually agreed to it in the end! Mom, all these years, I've been deceived like a fool by you all!"
Alaric had never doubted before because all the elders, not just Mrs. Marigold but also the Nash family of three, had said the same thing.
Alaric believed that Mrs. Marigold would not lie about such matters, and he knew that Griffon loved Orion the most. If Caspian wasn't Orion's child, Griffon would never have let Orion become the stepmother.
However, he never expected the truth to overturn all his perceptions of these people. These elders had conspired to deceive him for so many years, all to facilitate a prestigious marriage between the Knight and Nash families!
"I never intended to deceive you, Alaric, you are my son, my only son, I couldn't bear to deceive you. That woman is already dead, so telling you the truth now with no use. Orion is willing to be the stepmother, it's a perfect fit for you three. I did it for you." Mrs. Marigold explained earnestly.
"For me?" Alaric found it laughable to hear those words, "You're considering your own interests! You knew I never liked Orion, but you insisted on pushing her onto me."
"I can forgive the deception about Caspian's origins, but all of you colluded to deceive me, making me pretend to be married to Orion for Caspian's sake, tolerating her mistreatment of Caspian out of gratitude. I now realize how foolish I've been, completely played by all of you!"
Alaric was truly furious. The three elders he respected the most had conspired to deceive him for so many years.
"Alaric, it's normal for you to be angry knowing all this. I know how you feel, but what you said earlier was a bit too much. I really made these decisions for your own good. If you can truly develop feelings for Orion over time, then this lie will never be exposed. Alaric, Orion, and Caspian, you three will be happy together."
"Mom, you are really absurd." Alaric found Mrs. Marigold's words so absurd. "Even now, you don't think you've done anything wrong but rather regret that I haven't developed feelings for Orion. You're truly ridiculous!"
"Alaric!" Mrs. Marigold's patience was insufficient. Despite her earlier kind words, Alaric didn't seem receptive. "I really have difficulties. If you don't understand my difficulties, that's fine, but your words really hurt me. Everything has been for you."
"Committing harm in the name of love, that's what your love is." Alaric retorted.
"In this case, things have already passed. Even if I was truly wrong, it's done. You can't change anything now. You just have to accept it." Mrs. Marigold shrugged. Alaric laughed at this. "Who is that woman? Who is Caspian's birth mother?" Alaric asked.
"She's already dead. Asking about her now serves no purpose." Mrs. Marigold replied.
"Even if she's truly dead, I want to know the identity of the woman who gave birth to Caspian. I can't be as indifferent as you, disregarding a life as if she never existed!"
