It was the sound of a vacuum cleaner. Annis had told the maid to come clean the floor.

Mitchel quickly pulled Raegan back, accidentally brushing against her soft chest. Instantly, the desire he had been suppressing emerged.

Memories of his intimacy invaded him. He swallowed, his voice tinged with desire. «Can I kiss you?

The air inside the closet was tight and Raegan felt a little dizzy, almost like she couldn't breathe properly. I couldn't hear him clearly.

Before she knew it, Mitchel had leaned towards her and kissed her, a kiss she had longed for.

It took Raegan a second to react, then she pushed him away with all her strength.

Mitchel's grip on her wrists tightened, pressing them against the door, and the noise of the vacuum drowned out her struggle.

Raegan was furious, ready to yell at Mitchel, but when she opened her mouth to speak, he seized the moment. Their kiss deepened effortlessly, their tongues intertwining.

Raegan's eyes fluttered, her angry words becoming a mixture of gasps and soft screams. Filled with rage, she finally wrenched herself free, pushed the door open, and they both stumbled out of the closet.

Mitchel, seeing the stool in her way, rushed to protect Raegan by hugging her.

“Thud.” A loud muffled sound.

Mitchel crashed into the stool and a sharp pain shot up his back, making his handsome face lose color.

The commotion they created was quite remarkable. Luckily, the maid had already left.

Raegan quickly pulled away from his embrace, her cheeks flushing.

"Slap!" As Mitchel tried to get up, Raegan slapped him firmly across the face.

Raegan's eyes were intense with anger as she asked, "Mitchel, do you have no decency?"

The slap left a visible red mark on Mitchel's face, and his lips began to bleed a little.

It was unusual for someone in Mitchel's position to receive a slap. But he just shrugged, wiping the blood from his lip with a calm smile. "Would you like to slap me again to make yourself feel better?"

He nonchalantly began buttoning his shirt, leaving it half open, and offered Raegan the other side of his face. "Forward. "Hit me."

His shamelessness left Raegan somewhat helpless, unwilling to strike as he suggested.

When she hesitated, his smile grew warmer and he took her hand.

"Don't you dare to do it?"

«You are sick! "You have too much esteem for yourself."

«You still remember my dislike for milk and my favorite brand of clothing. You remember everything I like and don't like. Mitchel looked Raegan in the eyes, his voice deep and a little rough. “Raegan, can you really say that you have no feelings for me?”

Mitchel found a glimmer of hope flickering inside him as he noticed the subconscious expressions on Raegan's face.

Without thinking twice, he hugged her. «Raegan, these last five years without you have been torment for me, every minute and every second. I am deeply sorry for losing you..."

The tight hug prevented Raegan from seeing Mitchel's expression.

However, his words conveyed a sense of deep remorse and humility.

There was a time when Raegan embodied that humility. Now, their roles seemed reversed. Despite the change, Raegan couldn't shake her sadness. It became evident that in moments of true desperation, mere words had no power. He felt his detachment. It reflected the indifference Mitchel had shown him earlier.

Tears brimmed Mitchel's eyes as she quietly pleaded, “Raegan, please give me one last chance. I will make peace. Let's start a loving family for our daughter, please?

Raegan didn't resist, her expression devoid of any emotion. She seemed as cold and unyielding as a marble statue, devoid of heat.

Feeling the cold, Mitchel pulled her closer, hoping to share his warmth with her. Little did he know, the coldness he felt was not just in his body, but in his heart. A heart that would never feel warm again after being treated so coldly.

“Raegan, I promise I won't let you down again,” Mitchel murmured, his voice barely above a whisper.

Raegan's throat tightened. In an effort to stifle her emotions, she dug her nails into the palm of her hand.

Raegan scoffed. A promise? He couldn't help but sneer inwardly.

Hadn't he promised her before that she would always be his top priority?

She naively believed it. And what happened to that promise? When his grandmother was on her deathbed, he cruelly abandoned her. When she was in danger, she waited for Mitchel to come save her and her son. But he was nowhere to be found. She was never his priority.

Determinedly, Raegan pushed him away from her, her eyes filling with tears. He said, "I won't be fooled by your promises again, Mitchel."

Her gaze became distant and cold as she looked at him. «All I want is peace and stability. I hope you respect that and stay out of my life as soon as you walk out that door.

Mitchel froze, the weight of Raegan's words falling on him.

Wanting him to give up, Raegan coldly added, “And don't expect my gratitude for your efforts in removing those misleading trending topics. Please refrain from making decisions on my behalf in the future.

With a disdainful glance over her shoulder, Raegan declared, “Mitchel, I don't need you. "Not now nor ever."

With that, he left the room, his indifference cutting through Mitchel like a blade. I had stopped loving him.

Mitchel stood rooted to the spot, staring into space. A sharp pang pierced his chest, threatening to overwhelm him.

He clutched his chest and leaned against the wall, fighting to contain the anguish that was tearing him apart. Finally, unable to suppress it any longer, he coughed out a mouth full of blood.

Raegan frowned as minutes passed without Mitchel descending.

Hadn't her words been enough to dissuade him? Was his stubbornness really that inflexible?
